Chapter 2 - THINGS ARE NOT ALWAYS THE SAME AS THEY SEEM

After my boss...no x-boss fired me, he threw all my belongings out. He made me so angry but I still begged him to let me be there and asked for forgiveness.  But he was in real bad mood, so he prohibited me to enter that restaurant forever. So, I had no choice left but to leave that place.

Passing through the street, I looked up at the sky longing for hope. I was about to burst into tears when all of a sudden I marked a poster lying in the ground near a telephone booth. I went close to it and picked it up.

It said, "If you are good at graphic designing, art and logo making. We would love to hire you. There is no age barrier, we accept all ages" it also said that they would give 1,170,000 KRW (which is 898 in dollars ) per month just to do art and design logos.

I know it's the lowest but still it was a good amount. At that time I remembered that when I was 18 years old, I made logos. I Worked as a Freelancer and also got good reviews from my clients and the companies I worked for. I didn't even earn a decent amount, but for a teenager like me, it was a decent amount. But you see, because of my laziness, I stopped doing it midway.

So, without wasting anymore time I dialed the number of that private company. After 2 to 4 rings finally someone picked up my phone. "Hello this is sky Scrapers creative Inc. And I'm Monica, how can I help you?"

I was really nervous yet I confidently replied "Ahem...hi, I'm Gim Iseul. I was curious to know if you still hire people to design logos for your company?"

After a brief pause. The woman talking to me from the other side cried out with joy "Finally, someone is looking forward to work with us. Boss... Boss" She cried so loudly that I felt like my ear would burst.

I was scared and shocked at the same time. I wondered if this job would be right for me. Then she asked to wait for her call. I replied "yes, sure". And she hung up the phone.

Beeeppp

And after 10 minutes she called me again and asked if I could join the company at that moment. I was very happy due to which I immediately agreed to her. She sent me the address and asked me to come by 1:00 PM. I went back to my house.

I had about an hour left so I put on a beautiful long-sleeved white shirt, my favorite black coat and a nice pair of trouser. This time I combed my hair, put on some makeup. I took my cycle and went straight to that address. Seeing that poster, I found the building.

And the big hopes I had about this company were shattered in no time. The company I was about to work with was inside a two-store building that looked like a haunted house. The hoarding board of that company also broke from the left side along with my heart.

I had a hunch that I would not be able to stay there for more than 5 days. Still I decided to give it a try because at that time I was in dire need of money, I also had to pay the rent of my apartment.

I entered that haunted building, whose door was also broken, as I took my first step a spider landed on my nose. It seemed as if it was making fun of me. It felt really gross. I slapped it "Ouch!" And my nose hurt. After I had climbed a few steps, a lady wearing glasses suddenly appeared in front of me "Oh! Hey you are Gim-Iseul-Shi? Right ? " I followed her. And then she took me to a small shabby looking room. And like that I stepped inside their little company.

" Pop " and all of a sudden two people said " Welcome to the skyscrapers creative Inc " and popped poppers near the door. You know it was for the first time in all those seven years that someone had given me such a warm welcome, and I felt overwhelmed.

You know I was about to cry because they seemed so nice. Then I marked that there were two boys, two women and a middle-aged man. Seeing whom I thought he might be the boss of them all. And yeah, he was.

After those two people gave me such a warm welcome, the boss extended his hand to me and introduced himself saying " Welcome Gim-Iseul-Shi. I hope you will do your job properly. And get along with your colleagues well ".

I was glad I had found a permanent job, so I nodded agreeing to everything, I also formally introduced myself and promised to give a promising job. But with all this hustle and bustle I forgot to ask the most important question which was popping up in my mind since the beginning.

That is, why did not they interviewed me earlier and why they didn't ask me to show them my work samples. Monica showed me my table, it was clean. The PC I was about to use was also a new model, so I got excited. Monica looked after me, she was polite. She gave me my first task and on my first day I designed a cool logo for a school backpack company. They even threw me a welcome party, it was really fun. I thought I might stay here longer than I thought.

But you see that things are not always the same as they seem. A week later, after joining that company. I started experiencing some discrimination. It seemed that the people who worked there before me, had joined forces. They ignored me a lot.

All those good vives suddenly disappeared with no time. Everyone would always cut me out of their conversation, either at work or out of work, and the boss would never leave his cabin. Once I was facing trouble while opening my PC. Maybe it was a bug or something.

Next to me was the man who had welcomed me earlier. His name was Byung-ho. I asked him to help, but he simply ignored me. I was very surprised to see such a sudden change in his behavior.

I tried my best to open it on my own, and after 15 minutes of squeezing my brain's juice I finally opened it. Monica came to me and asked to design a logo for a toothpaste company. She was also behaving strangely, I also decided to ignore them all and focused on my work as I needed wages.

My boss praised me for designing such a nice logo for that toothpaste company and I was really happy. But you know when you achieve something great some people around you are never happy with your success, they never root for you. The same thing happened with me.
