The sound of the rain dripping on the streets made some relaxing sounds.
I sat down close to the window holding up a cup of hot tea, the steam drifted towards the cold breeze from outside. The window was nearly fully closed but had some gaps below making some cold thin air escape into the room
The breeze didn't make me calm, but caused goosebumps over my skin. Quickly shutting it and dropping the cup of tea on the stool closeby, I moved towards the table filled with files of different missing people throughout the weeks.
But what made this case given to me more serious and mysterious, is that in every house all these people who had gone missing lives in, a symbol will always be left the wall
I thought all the missing people were just the top men in the city or workers, until when the case of a two missing children came to my desk
Everything was just so stressful. I was just twelve when I lost my foster parents, they always told me about my biological mother but there was no time the name of my father was mentioned.
I tossed my locket into its case, got up and dialed my partner's number on the telephone nearby. He was my childhood friend and also my only best friend who I can count on.
"Hello Will, are you free?" I asked immediately he picked the call
"Oh yes" he replied quite interested in what I had to say
"I was just wondering if we could meet at the cafe down the street to discuss" I said tapping my leg waiting for his answer
"Okay, I'll be there as soon as possible" he ended the call abruptly.
Taking my overcoat, I rushed outside with a hat and also with my personal gun in case anything funny happened.
The streets were cold and quiet, and the scenario formed was quite a scene to behold. Every few people I passed was a suspect, but who knows whether one of them might go missing just like the rest
Coming closer to the cafe, I noticed it will be hours soon before it closes. The cafe was quite neat and tidy, I couldn't see Will around until he called my name
"Lee, I'm over here"
I walked towards the dark corner where he sat sipping a beer which looked chilled
"Well at least you came on time" I told him sitting on the vacant chair
"On time?" He said casting sheep's eyes at me
"Anyways, let's get down to business" I dropped some files on the table with my brain formulating different events that would have led to their disappearance
We had barely talked for some minutes when the scream of a dying woman coming from the alley created a slight commotions
Being investigators, we both sprang into action rushing towards the scream.
"Holy father in heaven!" I exclaimed after seeing the woman with a deep cut on her leg. I bent down to dress the wound during the time,
"Lee....." Will's voice was filled with slight fear making me look ahead
It was a creature pure black and was formed slightly into shape by darkness.
*****************
I was in what seemed like a trance, no it was reality mostly. It was real..... The creature stood there without any effort to run or flee. Then with a moment, it moved in speed
"Let's go!" I chased after it with my gun fully loaded, he also followed along but with a swift movement.
The sound of my boots hitting the dark alley and the puddles splashing along made it worse, the cold breeze felt like a psyche but more with cold
Then it was a dead end. Everywhere was quiet and peaceful but was it?
"Will?" I turned around but couldn't find anyone
"Lee! it's inside" the voice of will coming out from an old building almost struck me with fear, "come in!"
I walked towards the door but it was locked, I didn't have time for this now. With enough force, I knocked it down
The house was old, really old, everything was covered in dust, cobwebs were another decoration for the building.
The stairs were creaky, and termites had made quite a meal from the wood. I was alert walking through this ancient house, nothing felt calm..... nothing at all.
"Will" I called from a faint voice which seemed to crack out of fear.
Something came closer, it was reaching for my shoulder. With my slightly dim light I pointed towards the movement ready to pull the trigger
"It's me!" it was a male voice, it was Will. "You better be careful with the guns, nobody wants to get killed in that" he mumbled the words
"Sorry about that, did you ever find the creature?" I asked and he shook his head a no.
"l....." he wanted to say more but I interrupted him
"Do you hear that?" I asked
"You mean that strange creaking from the floor?" he replied stamping his feet vigorously
"I don't think that's a good idea" I told him but it was way too late
The wooden floor underneath us broke, and before one could say Jack Robinson we were already falling down, our backs breaking through different floor before landing in the worst way on a solid ground
I wiggled in pain as all my back bones felt broken, Will on the other hand got up casually like nothing had happened and quickly came closer to me
"Jiminy!" he exclaimed in surprise seeing my situation
"what's wrong with you, didn't I tell you to be careful now look at...." I suddenly stopped when he signaled me to by raising his hands
"I hear chanting" he whispered helping me stand up
"From where" I asked going with the low tone
"There!" he pointed towards a small gathering, "I think they are trying to invoke a demon"
"Then let's stop it" standing up I was about heading towards them before will dragged me down
"Did you leave your brain upstairs?, don't you know how dangerous it's to interfere in all these things? The best we can do is watch and get some information we are detectives after all" he was right and also correct. I obeyed innocently taking out my camera making shots while Will jotted some words down
The ritual started with the hooded members joining hands together
I watched every single detail but none seemed to be clearly understandable. I was here when I got a hard task at hand.
Taking my pocket watch out, I checked the time. It was nearly midnight, just an hour more.
"Will..." I couldn't find any word to say but staying here was quite a bad idea
"Yes?"
"..." I became speechless when a pentacle was drawn out from the darkness with great red crimson coloured fire
"Will?" this time my voice was audible
"All hail Azoron, lord of all!"
"They are trying to invoke a demon" I queaked
"More like a demon lord!" He stated narrowing his eyes into nothing for sure
"We can't just stay here and watch, we need to act fast before anything strange happens!" I stood up rushing towards the gathering despite Will's warning
Alas! If only I listened to him.
