Chapter 140 - Ready response

Blinking open her eyes, she closed them back again and resisted the urge to rewind time and go back to sleep forever. The urge to lay in her bed forever was overwhelming and she rolled over to the other side, pulling the blanket up to her eyes to block out the small ray of sunlight that peeked through the curtains.

The past day's events replayed back in her head like a vivid memory and she breathed out, unable to stop herself from worrying about him. The way he had run out was strange. He seemed to be trying to hide something as if his life depended on it. And maybe it did...

Eva pushed the heavy covering away and placed her feet down on the warm floor which she assumed had something to do with Gwen. Probably something that he had told her to take care of. Eva only sighed at this thought and walked toward the windows with frail movements.

The strap of her nightgown slipped down her shoulder as she pulled the dark curtains away and saw that the Sun hadn't planned to come out today. Touching the glass with her hands, her hands unconsciously formed eight letters on the window pane.

[T,

H...]

'Training...'

Her eyes widened as she sprinted to the closet and hurriedly grabbed whatever came first in reach. Rushing to the bathroom, she came out minutes later with her hair tied up into a ponytail something she had seen Gwen try many times. It didn't look bad on her hair as she surveyed her face quickly in the mirror and then slammed the door shut on her way out.

"Sorry I'm late-" she blurted out the moment she stepped out on the roof but stopped midway when her eyes caught sight of the scene.

Her brows furrowing, she looked around and slowly peeked inside the weapon room but nobody was there too. Her mind wasted no time in conjuring up theories, both melancholic and horrifying at the same time.

'Did they all leave...?'

'Is he hurt?'

'I'm all alone again, aren't I?'

'Did something happen?'

Darting down the stairs, her shoulders dropped and she leaned back against the wall when her eyes finally caught sight of them sitting in the living room on separate couches. At the sudden loud noise, they looked toward her direction and all their reactions seemed comical to her though she didn't have the energy to laugh out.

"Hey, you okay?" Gwen asked, nearing her as she stood up and placed an arm on her bare shoulder from where the shirt had slid off. Eva completely avoided looking at her body, only when it was extremely necessary or never.

"Eva, you're hot," she spoke and Eva giggled out, her chest still heaving as she felt sweat drip down her temple to the side of her face.

"Where is he? What're you all doing here?" she asked and stumbled forward, Gwen's hand stabling her in time to prevent her from falling.

"I think you should rest for now..." Kai's voice trailed off as he and Sebastian exchanged a look and Davina looked more dull than usual.

"Something happened didn't it?" she stated it more as a fact than a question and received nervous glances in reply. The response cleared away the remaining doubts as Eva went to take a seat beside Davina and leaned back against the couches.

Why was it so warm all of a sudden?

'Is Theo around?'

Sniffing, she looked toward Gwen again. "So, did my psycho aunt declare war yet? Where's our Majesty at?" her vision blurred for a second and she blinked her eyes rapidly to get rid of that haze.

"He's... uh busy," Sebastian spoke up and passed her the same worried glance everyone was currently giving her. Even Davina was starting to look a little uneasy.

"Girl, listen to them and go rest. No training for you today." Davina told and Eva closed her eyes, a headache seeping inside her brain and making her lose the ability to think sensibly.

"Tell me this first: Where the hell is he?" grabbing her forehead, she squeezed her temple and groaned out softly.

"Her temperature's high, I think she's suffering through a cold." Gwen's voice resonated in her ears and she felt somebody's hand over her shoulder.

"Let's all pray that Theo won't murder me for picking her up." Kai's voice seemed closer than before and Eva felt the warmth increase all around.

"Shut up and get her to her room. I'll be back with Fiona by then."

Where is he?

Did something happen... to him?

Eva swallowed, her throat begging for water and her body for peace. Something she hadn't felt in a long while and didn't expect to feel any time soon. The sound of a door opening entered her hearing and she felt herself being shifted onto a soft, familiar mattress.

"Gwen she's burning!" a hand on her forehead and she reached out to grab something which felt softer than her blanket for some reason.

"... And she's grabbing my pants a little too tightly. Is this a symptom?"

Eva breathed out, her surroundings suddenly feeling too hot for her liking. Loosening her grip, she passed Kai a faint apologetic smile and parted her lips to ask,

"Where is he?" her voice came out rough.

Kai helplessly looked toward the door and then back at her. "Eva he's perfectly fine, Theo's just busy working as he normally is."

And that was the final nail in the coffin as she bit her lip hard, looked away for a second, and then offered him a grateful nod.

Pulling the blanket up to her eyes, she felt bad for leaving him all silent but she was left with no other option.

'He doesn't care...'

Eva kept silent, knowing that this time...

This time, she didn't have a ready response.
