Chapter 128 - Ride

Eva's brows narrowed down. She tried to remember anything about Hades or the stories her father had told but nothing came across her mind.

"You'll find a few books about him in the library," Davina told and Eva gave her an acknowledging nod.

"Tell me more," Eva asked and Davina let out a frustrated huff. "Curious much?"

"Very."

She rolled her eyes. "Hades was the name he used in the Underworld. For his bride and the rest of his people, he was simply King Alexander or Alex to some."

Davina then pointed her finger to the white glow that had started to resemble fog on the white bedsheet. The mist cleared away to reveal a map of some sort. Eva looked down, squinting her eyes to realize that it was the layout of Salvador itself.

"The neighboring countries Derkov and Vermont were quick to act when they heard of the King's downfall. The heir had gone missing while some thought him dead. The commanders did their best to hold the borders but we lost Xandria temporarily to that bastard Asher since they hadn't bothered telling me that it was under attack." scowled Davina and Eva raised a brow, gesturing her to continue.

"Gosh, you're just like Theodore in some matters. Anyway, I arrived and sadly didn't manage to kill that asshole since he abandoned his soldiers in under a second. Kaius and Sebastian sent out troops, after everything was settled, to find our missing King. Gwen and I made preparations for the burial of the King and Queen while the rest of the citizens mourned for our loss."

Silence fell for a few minutes and Eva thought aloud, "And this war is occurring because of me, correct?"

Davina caressed her sharp talons, absorbed in her thoughts for a while.

"Your powers are the weapon Isabella needs to win against us."

"Excuse me?' Eva blurted out, her trembling resuming as she started wondering why they hadn't killed her already to terminate the threat.

"You mean you can't take me down?" Eva asked, suddenly feeling as if the walls were closing in on her and planning to suffocate her instantly.

'You were never supposed to live...'

'Your fault...'

"Of course I can, what the hell are you talking about?" Davina spoke and relief arose on Eva's features after hearing this.

"But you're forgetting that if Asher and Isabella attack together with you, they might prove to be something that even I can't handle. They had centuries to strengthen their armies and their number together is more than ours. Though we have Lysander by our side too, I almost forgot."

"What's the estimated number of soldiers?" Eva questioned, fearing the answer already.

An exhale and then, "From what Sebastian and our spies told, more than five hundred thousand in total."

The concerned look that Davina was giving her made it obvious that Eva looked pale as a ghost right now. "And our battalion?"

"Almost three hundred thousand when combined."

"But we have more land occupied—"

"A lot of our faithful warriors died when Theo was lost. Many families were lost and some of our main commanders died too. What we have right now is brutal, credit goes to Kaius since he trained some of Lysander's soldiers too. But the future is unbeknownst to us all."

While Davina yawned, Eva now had a whole list of stuff to think about. So many questions were still unanswered and her exhaustion was long forgotten. Meanwhile, Davina looked like she would kick her out if she asked anything else.

"Just one more?" Eva pleaded, a cheeky smile taking over her face and Davina fell back groaning out loud.

"Fine."

"What role do the current Fates play in this? And you all never wondered that maybe they were the ones who captured Theo..."

"They have lain low and yes we did think of that. Theo provided us with no answers and I have no coordinates of where they are situated so I could go kick their door open and ask what the hell they are up to. We sweetly asked Sebastian to follow Theo for a few weeks— do not give me that look!" Davina pointed her finger at Eva when she pouted to complain but only rolled her eyes in the end.

"What you did was very wrong, but did he find anything?"

"No, and that's why we had to dismiss that theory. But if I ever meet them face to face, I'll make sure to end them for sending their people after Sephie."

Sephie? "Who?"

"Persephone. Theo's mother and my friend."

"A beautiful name," Eva stated softly, smiling at the thought of him having a loving mother who would go to the farthest extents for her child.

"She was. It made sense why he fell in love with her but killing himself when his son needed him the most, that's unforgivable." Davina's voice was stiff with rage that she had buried inside her for decades.

Both of them were lost in their thoughts when the sudden knock on the door awoke them out of their brief reverie.

Davina scoffed, shaking her head with a small smirk on her flaming red lips.

"Looks like your ride home has arrived."
