Sebastian's dark gaze was on her and she passed him a grateful smile. His concerned stare didn't miss her observation but she chose not to notice it for now. There were more important things at hand and she couldn't become a liability this time too.
"I say we enter the dungeon right from the gate and try to find where that asshole is located," Kai suggested and it seemed for the first time, nobody had a better option other than that.
"It'd take centuries for you to find him down there," Sebastian added and Gwen nodded her head in agreement.
Theo looked buried deep in thought while Davina only sat on the couch and played with her too-long fingernails.
"Moros is caged inside the Underworld," Davina muttered out loud enough for everyone to hear. Their eyes all flew to Theo who seemed to be taking time to process this new piece of information.
"She can't enter that hellhole," he muttered and glanced toward her. Eva's brows furrowed. T—They were talking about the actual pit of darkness?
Well shit...
"I have these powers don't I?" she asked nobody in particular. "There must be a reason I have them. And I can't be fully human either. If my biological mother was the queen of a Fae kingdom, then I'm only part human aren't I?"
Davina smirked. "This one is quite smart unlike the others present in this room."
Kai stuck out his tongue, looking away and nodding toward Theo. They all seemed to have agreed among themselves after her short speech considering the looks they were passing each other.
"But can we take the risk?" Gwen questioned and Theo seemed to be thinking the same thing since his expression didn't change.
"I'll teleport her out of there if anything goes awry. We'll be leaving then."
With a parting, meaningful nod toward Davina, he straightened up and offered her his hand. Eva took it without any reluctance and passed a small smile to each one of them before turning around.
She blinked her eyes and the surroundings changed to something else. That familiar feel of darkness enveloped her as swirls of silver flicked around and then she wasn't standing where she was anymore.
The sky around her seemed identical yet different at the same time. However, there were no stars to illuminate it and the only source of light was the lantern that hung from the massive building in front of them.
"Are we still in Eden?"
"Yes and no," he spoke and stated walking with her hand still in his grasp.
"What does that mean?"
He sighed. "Some parts of Eden are visible to other people. The bad parts mostly while the light is hidden for only us to see."
"And the pit is inside there?"
"We can only enter it by teleportation. And we can do that only by entering the dungeons which are a pathway to the doors of darkness. That's where our man is."
Eva silently absorbed this information and raised her head to notice the tall and deadly-looking structure just a few feet away from where they now stood. Theo raised his hand and the door flew open at his touch.
How the hell were they supposed to find anything in this dark place?
As if he heard her thoughts, a bright flame of silver fire issued from his other hand that was not holding hers. Eva blinked as he looked at her and continued staring.
Was he going to ask her if she wanted to go back?
"Don't let go of my hand." she gulped and nodded to show that she understood. They stepped inside the darkness together, and Eva could finally see why Gwen, the strongest female she had ever met, shuddered at the memory of this pace.
The walls looked as if they were going to swallow her up in a second if she stayed in a spot for a minute longer. The floor was matted with rocks while the path leading inside seemed to be made out of a strange hard material. She raised her head to look up but caught no sight of any ceiling whatsoever. The only thing that reminded her that she could still get out was the hand holding hers.
They walked for a while, Eva making sure to observe everything while she felt his eye on her from time to time. He was silent and she didn't want to disturb him from focusing on the current situation. The deeper they traveled inside, hope seemed to be snatched harder away from her. 'What if we're stuck here forever?'
'But he'll be here with us, so what does it matter!' her heart squeaked out and Eva had the sudden urge to smack her chest, especially where her heart resided.
While she was trying to focus on anything except for his touch, she didn't spot the door that they were now standing in front of. It was when she noticed that they had stopped, was when she looked up and flinched at the sight of the horrifying yet intricate designs on the archway.
A small caress ran over her hand and she shivered though it was quite warm inside the dungeon. His eyes glittered in the dark and she wasted no time in getting lost in them like always.
'Now who isn't focusing?'
"Is it in there?" she asked, clearing her throat and smacking her subconscious internally. Was it possible to roast oneself?
His small nod was enough for her to take a step ahead. Again, he rested his hand on the hard-looking material as it slowly creaked open, unlike the previous time. Eva's eyes widened.
The room was filled with perilous shadows that warned anyone from coming inside. Right in the middle of the chamber, they saw a large round hole like the mouth of a well. Fragments of stone and broken chains lay near the black abyss.
Her hold on his hand unconsciously tightened. They were supposed to jump in that? How deep did it even go?
She looked toward Theo. Did he look... hesitant? Reluctant? Was he scared or something?
"What's wrong?" she asked and saw his eyes glance down at her.
"You're going to have to grab onto me as we jump. If you feel uncomfortable doing so then I'll think of something else-"
Davina was wrong... He's a bastard and dumb at that too.
"Why the heck would I mind?" she raised a brow but amusement glimmered in his eyes instead. What was so funny in this situation!?
"You just cursed," he spoke, his eyes glowing like black diamonds and she scoffed.
"Can we just get on with it?" her tone sounded frustrated and he smirked like the devil he was.
The hand that was holding hers dropped to her side and then slid over to her waist as he pulled her in closer. Eva gasped, his touch making her toes curl. His touch felt like a drug she was now addicted to. She craved it as bees yearned for anything sweet.
She wanted more. This wasn't enough.
"Look at me."
Her lashes fluttered open to see that his eyes were closer to her than ever. She could see the shadows of silver mixing in and out, a violet glow flashing once as his nose grazed past her cheek and goosebumps arose on her skin.
His massive wings erupted from his back and without wasting another minute, she felt herself being lifted off the ground. He didn't take his eyes off hers for even a second as they plunged inside the darkness without any feeling of fear or worry taking over.
'He was here...'
'She was here...'
