Chapter 114 - Scared to fight?

He was silent for a while before speaking, "That 'someone' would be the most unfortunate person to be ever born. Living without a mate isn't easy. You don't have anyone to share your life with, nobody to take care of and you're just... unbearably alone forever."

Her eyes ached to glance at him once again and Eva punched harder at this thought. She was likely looking miserable in Kai's eyes. It looked as if she was harboring feelings that would never be recuperated since he had a destined mate awaiting him in life. He would never need her in any way.

It explained why he was acting so distant these days.

"Eva."

She raised her head to see Kai looking sideways at her with concern on his countenance. She probably looked lost and heartbroken by what he had just told her and now he was going to pity her like everyone already did.

"This punching bag doesn't have feelings. And I hope you don't love your enemy so much that you fear to even beat them up," he said with a small chuckle and Eva almost felt a genuine smile bloom up on her face. That older brother vibe made it even more comfortable to train with him.

If it was Theo instead of him, she would've ended up getting a heart attack soon enough.

So she nodded determinately earning an encouraging smile from her opponent. Taking a deep breath, she imagined Isabella's face in front of her.

This was the woman who had killed her loving family...

The person who had ended up dividing them apart...

She pushed her arm back and dug her clenched fist into the soft material making it shudder with that little force she applied.

Anger...

She needed more of it.

It was Diana who had told her everything with a blissful smile on her face. The very demon who had ended up killing her little sister with her very own hands.

Alastor who had betrayed her in the worst way possible.

Another punch.

This time Kai was pushed back a little but he stabilized himself in time. Eva didn't focus on the proud glint in his eyes and instead drilled her fist inside the opponent again.

And again.

Harder and harder.

She would take revenge for her family...

No matter what the cost.

Mate...

Her speed increased within a second, her punches growing sharper and more firm with each passing moment.

He had a mate.

She would always be alone.

His mate...

Everything around her blurred away, nothing visible anymore within her sight.

Kai's concerned face...

His eyes on her from where he was standing,

Sebastian's eyes narrowed as he saw her fist tightening from far away, knowing what would happen next.

The only thing she could see was the black punching bag in front of her as she stuffed her fist in it and saw it disintegrate into nothing but cinders the very next minute.

Kai was thrown back due to the powerful effect, his back hitting the boundaries of the roof as he groaned out and Eva felt guilt punch her hard in the gut.

"I'm so sorry, are you okay?" she asked, running towards him and crouching down.

To her surprise, Kai laughed out loud and smiled widely at her as if nothing more could please him to this extent. Patting her shoulders, he stood up with a faint grunt that only she must have heard. Offering his hand, she took it and stood up without applying too much force to his strength. She knew how hard she had pushed him with her punch, her shock still hadn't dissolved or subsided away.

Turning around, she saw him approaching her at a slow pace, his hair coming to fall over his eyes and time seemed to have paused. It was as if everything was moving in slow motion but his gaze drilled through her very skull, leaving her more vulnerable than she had ever felt.

It angered her even more... only he could affect her in this way.

"I'm sorry," she spoke and tried not to grit her teeth. On one hand, she felt guilty about destroying a most probably expensive training material and on the other, she felt anger consume her very soul at thinking about how happy he would be after she would depart from this world.

But wasn't this what she wanted? Her main plan included him learning how to love somebody so that the misery in his face would fade away.

The minute that he reached her and looked down straight into her eyes, there was no trace of any grief on his face.

Not even angry at her for running his equipment and hurting his friend.

Nothing but pride. Genuine satisfaction at seeing her punch the hell out of that bag.

She was starting to think that he was just as disturbed in the head as she thought she was.

His expression held amusement too, as he raised a brow at Kai for getting hit by a girl smaller than him in size and experience. But his friend didn't take it to heart and instead, slapped her in the back and walked off toward Sebastian who nodded in her direction. His glance also held appreciativeness.

She had expected fear or resentment.

This was unlike anything that she would have ever anticipated.

Cocking his head, he folded his arms and spoke, "What are you sorry for?"

"Ruining that bag? Injuring your best friend?"

"He's been through worse," he spoke carelessly but she spotted that faint flicker of anger in his eyes clearly enough. He might try to show that he didn't care but it was too obvious to her that he did.

A lot at that.

Eva raised a brow mockingly. Trying to sidestep him and go downstairs, he blocked her way like always. "Where do you think you're going?"

"I'm tired."

She walked past him, her arm unconsciously grazing his as she walked and felt goosebumps rise on her arms with just that small touch. This was getting irritating, her body felt like it wasn't hers anymore but belonged to him in every way possible.

"Scared to fight me?"
