The mouth-watering food in front of her was a temporary but useful distraction from the guy sitting next to her. Her eyes wandered over the males and females sitting across and around her, but the deviating scent and warmth that flowed from him and caressed her bare body parts was still distraction enough for her to focus to drift away.
"Can we please start eating already?" the blonde male spoke up, and Eva once again looked at him, her eyes blinking wide. He looked normal in his casual clothing, but everyone sitting around this table, no matter how normally they were sitting, felt dangerous in some way or another.
"We talk first, then eat—" Theo started, and out of nowhere a small rumble echoed, and all eyes landed on her and then on her stomach which had just issued that horrible sound in its hunger.
Eva blushed scarlet, her teeth tugging her lower lip as she crossed her arms and licked her lips before saying, "I'm fine, we should talk first anyway."
"Do you want to eat first or not?" the dark-haired woman asked, and Eva narrowed her eyes, wondering what the secret intention of the question was.
Seconds ticked by, and she finally spoke, "We'll do both together then, but before that can I know your names? I don't want to refer to him as Blondie forever." Eva pointed towards the first male, and his face took on an insulted look.
Running a hand through his hair, he replicated her stance and replied, "I have the best hair among everybody else here, Eva." she rose her brows at the use of her name, but the man only smirked in response. So they all knew her name, yet she didn't have a clue who they were?
Not wanting to look and ask the man sitting beside her, the only person she could turn to was Gwen. But like always, he beat her to it and opened his mouth as if he had already expected her question.
"The Blondie that you just referred to is Kaius. He's in charge of my whole army which includes Xandria, my Court, and Eden all together," explained Theodore, and Eva saw a flash of despair cross Kai's eyes when he looked at Theo. It made sense if they were meeting after so many years, and Eva felt more like an intruder than anything else.
"And you're Eva, also called Birdie by someone here." Kaius's eyes drifted off to Theo's once again before they returned to her. "This bastard here saved you if I was told correctly, and then a lot of shit happened to you, Isabella and her crew being the culprits." Her family's faces flashed across her mind and she fisted her hands, her blood boiling again underneath the surface.
"And now you want revenge..." the woman once again spoke, and it didn't take Eva long to figure out she had some sort of powers that made her aura even more destructive than everybody's was.
She could feel Theo's eyes on her, but she tried her best to ignore them for the time being. He probably was wondering why she hadn't told him yet, unaware of her future plans on what she had planned to do with herself.
"Yes, I want revenge, but I'd like to explain the details after I know the rest of your names. Gwen could— "
"This." Theo nodded in the second male's direction, the man with dark hair, completely opposite to the first one's personality. His silence made Eva even more curious about him, but she only looked and returned his stare.
"This is Sebastian, he's in charge of dealing with work that mostly happens behind the scenes. He and Gwen handle most of the Court when I'm... busy with other stuff."
"Is this a staring competition by the way?" the woman once again asked, grabbing a nearby bottle and a wine glass which had been placed within her reach. Eva looked away from Sebastian and her eyes narrowed as she saw red liquid being poured into the glass.
"Are you all vampires too?" she questioned and at that, Kai burst out laughing while Gwen stifled a laugh behind her hand. Theo only smirked, while the corner of Sebastian's lips tilted up. The woman's eyes only glinted as she tipped her back and emptied the contents of her glass in one go.
"No, girl," she answered, smacking her lips, which were the very definition of bloody red. "We aren't vampires, none of us are except for this boy." she nodded in Theo's direction. "I'm worse than a vampire, and the rest of the people here aren't any better on a battlefield."
Eva tilted her head, evaluating the words the woman had just spoken. "What should I call you?"
The woman's cat-like eyes surveyed her from top to bottom, and even though her instincts were telling her to back down, Eva didn't listen. The predatory look the woman was giving her just made it even more obvious that she was probably the deadliest creature present in this room. Along with Theodore, he wasn't to be exempt.
No, along with everyone else in this room too. It was obvious that she didn't know many things about powers and magic but it was clear that Isabella and Diana had those powers. But their danger level was still below these people who were now sitting about her and eating casually.
"I'm Davina and you can call me whatever you want." her plump lips slid into a small smirk as she leaned back in her chair and poured herself another glass. "He can tell you what my job is, and then we can start eating in peace."
Theo sighed at her side, rolling his eyes as he told, "Davina can be called my secret weapon, in other words, she's a surprise attack that I'd use when the rest of us are defeated. Most people don't know about her powers and therefore, they don't bother thinking her to be a threat and that's where the rest of their plans crumble, and we win."
"And what are those powers?" Eva questioned, her eyes locking on the short woman who took a small sip this time and set her glass down with a sharp 'clink.'
"You'll see in due time girl, though," she looked up, and their eyes met and Eva wondered if Davina already sensed something about her that she was yet to know. "I'm sure you'll prove to be the biggest surprise of us all in this war."
