Like it means something.
Oh, it did.
Something she herself hadn't figured out yet.
Nevertheless, she opened her mouth to utter the name he wanted to hear so much from her lips,
"Theo."
He released a ragged breath which he seemed to have been holding in. Eva could faintly hear her heart beating in a faraway place as he leaned down, his gaze fixated on her parted lips.
Tap! Tap!
Her head whirled in the direction of the door as the knock sounded throughout the room. She could hear Theodore let out a frustrated groan and tried her best not to giggle. He looked adorable as he scrunched his nose and she resisted the urge to touch him with all her power.
She let out a surprised gasp when he pushed her up against a wall, his hands caging her hands on the wall as he tilted his head and smirked making her heart flip thrice over.
"There's someone outside the door— "
"I don't care." came his nonchalant voice.
"But I do!" she exclaimed and tried to think of a way to let his guard down. It wouldn't be an easy task but better than getting embarrassed in this... position!
A light bulb hovered above her head as she let out a smile and bit her lip. It was risky as hell but she didn't have many choices, now did she?
Her head which was resting against the hard wall, now leaned forward towards his face as she saw him watching her with amusement and curiosity, wondering what her next move would be.
Her heart was the only giveaway as it continued to thunder away in her chest. Her lips grazed the corners of his lips as her hand manage to escape his now weak grasp. Slowly, her fingers traveled up his muscled chest and into his black hair which felt softer than anything in her hands. She was trying to copy what he did to her all the time and it seemed to be working.
The groan that left his lips made her whole body shiver in desire.
"What an unexpected plot twist you are, Birdie," he mumbled as he let go of her other hand too. Eva snatched her chance before she could get diverted by his face and slipped past his body towards the door, yanking it open. It was the work of a second and she watched his shocked face with immense satisfaction as she crossed her arms and faced the man standing outside the door who was none other than Leon.
Leon looked at Eva with visible confusion. Why was the lady so happy? Had the King finally realized his feelings and confessed? If so, then HURRAH!
FINALLY!
He smiled widely at Eva and it only widened as he saw her grin back mischievously but with a tiny glimmer of guilt.
Why the hell was she feeling guilty?
"I will be leaving now, Your Majesty." Eva curtsied and without another look, she passed a smile to the advisor and vanished down the corridor.
Leon peeked inside the room and his eyes widened when he saw the King glaring at him with daggers in his eyes. Sharpened to perfection to be exact.
Had he said something wrong? He hadn't even spoken yet! What was the matter with the King?
…
Shit.
The lady had rejected him, hadn't she? And now he was in a foul mood which he would take out by giving him extra work. Damn it! The lady's guilty smile was starting to make perfect sense now.
She would make an extremely clever and sneaky Queen, he thought to himself and took a step back when he saw Theo clench his hand into a fist.
"My King, I am so sorry— "
"F*ck it." Leon heard the King curse under his breath as he walked past him without even acknowledging his presence.
"Your Majesty!"
"What is it?" asked Theo, without bothering to glance back. This girl was too smart to manage to distract him and escape.
Sigh... she suited him perfectly.
Clever just like him and not at all weak, he thought and remembered all the times when she had looked up into his eyes defiantly with a silent challenge in those mesmerizing orbs saying, "Try me."
Unknown to himself, he smiled lost in his thoughts, and didn't notice Leon staring at him weirdly and shooing away the maids who stopped to gape.
The King would be his death, Leon thought with a depressed sigh and massaged his temple feeling exhausted all of a sudden. His future looked extremely bleak if he continued to live like this. His hair would grow white soon if this King didn't stop giving him headaches!
He would be marvelously happy if he could shift his responsibility of taking care of the King to his future wife. The only available option was the lady who had just abandoned him to the Devil with a pretty smile.
"May I discuss an ongoing issue Your majesty?" he asked in a strained voice and managed to force out a tight smile.
Theodore stumbled out of his reverie and nodded in reply to Leon. Whatever this "ongoing issue" was it must be important since Leon never disturbed him with petty problems which could be dealt without his presence.
Theo walked ahead, his feet leading him to the courtroom, unaware of the evil actions taking place outside the borders of the castle.
