Chapter 4 - A New Reality

Kelan Empire. County of Luvia. Lord's Castle.

Clack! Ptak!

In the innermost room of the castle, the Bed Chamber, wood burned in the hearth, providing respite from the gnawing cold outside.

On a huge wooden bed in the middle, a man and a woman slept, covered in sheets of fur. At a glance, they seemed to be close, yet they were distant.

The young man, who appeared to be in his early 20s, opened his eyes. There was a frown and anger on his otherwise beautiful face, which coupled with his blue eyes and black hair made his visage more charming.

"Preposterous! Hah, they want me to dance to their tunes."

When I opened my eyes, these words inexplicably left my mouth. The tone felt a bit unfamiliar to me and I felt disgusted while a feeling of rage rose inside me. Although I felt angry at what happened earlier, the so-called trial, the emotions I was feeling now were heightened for some reason.

But this was evidence that I was alive. So, did I reincarnate or something?

Suddenly, excruciating pain engulfed my mind, and I felt as if the nerves of my brain were being torn apart. I haven't felt such pain in a long time, and it left me sweating, heavily gulping for air, and yet my mouth refused to utter a single sound as if it was saying, 'this level of pain doesn't warrant any attention.'

After a few minutes, which felt like hours, the pain finally started calming down, and I sighed in relief. My body was covered in sweat, and once again, inexplicable disgust emerged within towards the untidiness. My body tried to stand up on its own without me doing anything as if it had a will of its own but fell down on the bed again due to weakness.

As I lay on the bed trying to rest, I tried looking for a clock but didn't find anything. Another 10 or so minutes must have passed as rested on the bed, my body felt normal now and I decided to look around but one thing was clear - it was not a reincarnation but instead, I had possessed someone else's body. A Transmigration.

I felt sorry for the person whom I possessed. It wasn't a good thing and I wouldn't wish something like that even on my enemies. Imagine going to sleep and the next morning you wake up, you find someone else has inhabited your body. Not a good feeling, I must say.

Thinking like that, I looked around to see the new reality I was thrown into, and maybe find the identity of the person I had possessed. It was a stone room, moderately decorated and the wall surface didn't seem to be polished. The room seemed to be a part of an old building. It was dimly lit, the fire from the hearth illuminating it.

'Is it winter?' I thought after seeing the fur blanket covering my body. 'It must be. That's why there's a fire in the hearth.'

'Huh?'

Something was wrong. While trying to move around, I suddenly sensed the presence of someone else besides me. Slowly turning around my head, the sight of a woman, naked, appeared before my eyes asleep on the other side of the bed.

'W-what is happening? W-who is she? Am I married? Is she my wife? Or am I in some kind of brothel? Don't tell me I am some noble with concubines?'

In a span of seconds, various possibilities flooded my mind, trying to make sense of the situation. Suddenly, my hand moved on its own toward her face, trying to touch her, caress her face.

'Shit! Shit! What's happening? Why am I moving on my own? Am I that horny at the sight of a naked woman?'

Unable to make sense of the situation, I looked at the woman while my hand caressed her face. Due to the fur covering most of her body, only her face was visible, that too from sideways.

Auburn hair, fair and flawless skin, her side profile reminiscent of a caricature. She was easily the most beautiful woman I have seen in my life, or my previous life to be exact.

Unintentionally, I glanced over at the bedsheet where, after I had deprived her of her innocence, a scarlet rose had bloomed. Although her gorgeous sleeping face seemed calm, there were dried tear streaks on her face.

Flinch!

Suddenly the woman flinched at the touch. 'Oh, I must have woken her up,' or so I thought but my mouth said otherwise.

"So you were awake all this time?"

It was a cold voice I don't think I was capable of making. In the first place, I was a good person in my previous life.

'So, does this voice belong to the owner of this body? That must be it.' I tried to remind myself of such a thought.

"Resistance is futile. In the first place, I only took a liking to you. It was you who came to me."

'What is this guy saying? These aren't my words.' I was baffled by it when a machine tone entered my mind.

"Don't act like a pitiful woman and wake up. It's dawn already."

Saying this, my body moved on its own and I left the room, leaving the timid and scared woman behind.

Outside, a world covered in sheets of white welcomed me, the cold and chill assaulting me, yet the body was withstanding it.

'Looks like I have possessed the body of someone strong.' I sighed in relief at this realization, for this just increased my survival chances in this unfamiliar and unknown world.

People, which resembled knights, were patrolling the ground below and maids were doing the regular chores. It seems I crossed over into a medieval world.

I calmed myself with a deep breath and took in the scenery of the world in front of me when another machine tone disrupted my thoughts.

A screen window suddenly filled my vision, providing me with information. I was expecting this kind of development given the fact that I had just transmigrated but this was a bewildering situation even for me.

Despite a character profile such highly decorated, my eyes were fixed on a particular place.

[Aamon Von Soren]

In other words, the middle-level boss of the game 'The Legend Of A Hero' that I was just playing yesterday, a link that connected the first half of the game with the second half, a despicable villain that was murdered by the protagonist, or by me since I was the one playing the game.

In other words, the person I killed yesterday in the game, I had possessed his body. A man hated by the woman he loved, hated by his family, hated by the world, hated by the players even - this made me wonder if the developers had any grudge against this character of some sort.

So the woman sleeping inside was none other than Adrienne Von Benette, the woman who was forced to me marry me and I had sex with her last night. No wonder I couldn't recognize her at first. The 'her', in reality, couldn't even be compared to the 'her' from the game. The game version was akin to a cheap replica of the original. No wonder Aamon was possessive of her even though she was his student.

I was pretty sure it wasn't out of her free will or was it? Was it coerced? Did I just commit a marital r*ape? 'No, No, No…it wasn't me. It was this damn body of mine before I crossed over,' I tried blaming the original Aamon to not feel guilty but it wasn't doing anything good.

'Damn you, you senile old man,' that was what I wanted to say but something entirely different escaped my lips.

"Interesting. Quite ironic, I must say. They ask me to create a destiny of my own destiny, and yet they want me to dance to their tunes."

"I don't think I have ever been in charge of my life ever since I was born."

These contrasting opinions and these different actions made me sure of one thing - Aamon's self was still there. It seemed like we were two egos occupying one body, and were assimilating into each other. That was for sure.

If I can feel his emotions, his pride, I'm sure he can feel mine as well.

However, the players had little information about the character Aamon other than the fact that he was a villain. How did he become so powerful? What was his villain origin backstory? Nothing.

So, after coming to terms with the new reality, the first thing I did was try to recall old memories of Aamon, looking for any hints, but there were none. It was as if his mind, his memories, had been sealed shut.

I was sad, being thrown into a game, possessing a character that everyone despised - who for me was just a third-rate villain I would have forgotten the next morning after laughing at his demise -, while the other 'me' was excited - a smile on his face, my face, that made the onlookers shudder - thrilled with this invisible power that he would be playing against.
