Chapter 8 - Aamon Von Soren (4)

"Keaaahkk!"

As my sword pierced his heart, the goblin cried out in agony. Meanwhile, I felt something stab my other leg as I pushed the goblin's body with my leg to pull out the sword.

"Hua. Hua..."

As I checked myself, I took a deep breath to calm down. My calf had been pierced by an arrow, and blood was gushing out. The pain was bearable, at least at the moment. I slowly stretched my hands and yanked it out.

Looking around, the goblins were dominating the fight, stabbing the knights with sickles and other weapons everywhere. The knights were outnumbered, even with their superior skills.

It was chaos.

'Fuck it, dammit.' Frustrated, I cursed.

As the fight dragged on, I felt a little tired, my stamina draining. Because the space was small, I couldn't use a large-scale magic attack and had to settle for a sword fight as my last option.

The blood-red glare of dawn adorned the horizon, while a moon was on the other side, about to vanish. The fight had dragged on longer than expected.

"Pathetic…" I cursed.

My patience was wearing thin as a result of my inability to deal with these low lives sooner.

A metallic taste of blood formed in my mouth for unknown reasons, but my body still stood up and I walked towards the middle.

Plop... plop...

Meanwhile, the goblins' bodies continued to fall as the knights struggled with them. I could see a few fallen knights among them as well, though only a few.

"Get Down," I spoke in a cold and commanding tone.

The knights were surprised by the sudden command but they knew what to do and hurriedly crawled onto the ground.

I held the sword tightly in my grip, my legs taking a stance.

"Flame Sea"

As I muttered this, I felt something leave my body and the sword in my hands burst into flames.

I spun my body around putting strength in my spread-out legs, swinging the sword in a horizontal arc as slices of flames detached from the sword, traveling in all directions.

The arcs of flame traveled through the air, slicing the heads of the goblins from their body. It wasn't long before their bodies fell to the ground.

Although it was a quick and strong measure, the mana it consumed was huge. I only used it being tired of the fight here.

"Clear the bodies and tend to the injured."

Before anyone could say anything, I gave out a command and left the scene.

The knights slowly stood up to see the charred bodies of the goblins, while their heads were burnt crips. Among them, they also saw the sight of their fallen comrades who had perished today.

* * *

Dawn. Deep in a forest.

A solitary figure stood amid the tall trees. The light of the dawn broke through the canopy, illuminating his figure.

Black robes, a chiseled face, blue eyes, and a sword at his waist.

I stood there, patiently waiting for the monsters to arrive.

While the knights were cleaning out the monster corpses, I left the camp and arrived at the forest. Both of our egos were still not assimilated fully and the ego of the original 'Aamon' was far more powerful for me to subdue at the moment. So, it was more of my 'other self's decision since he preferred to hunt alone.

'They will only be a hindrance to me,' I reasoned. They had already lost a few to the goblins' attack and I had no desire to reduce the already dwindled figure.

As I patiently waited, suddenly mist started spreading into the area. The visibility caused by the rays of dawn narrowed again.

"Clkakakkak"

"Ggrgrgrgrr"

It was soon followed by strange noises that filled the air. With the sudden abnormality, my hands reached out toward my sword and I unsheathed it, tightly gripping it.

My vision could make put hazy figures in the mist, so my legs moved in a strange movement while the sword slashed the empty air again and again. I kept moving in the mist, slashing and cutting the empty air with refined movements.

After some time, I stopped and stood still, crimson blood dripping from the sword which I thought earlier hit only the empty air.

"Soul Purge"

A blinding light engulfed the area as everything was caught up in flames. Soon the scene cleared and the mist dissipated. The brutal fight over, I ground my boot into the cadaver of the slain monster which looked akin to a mutated sheep.

The ground was stained crimson with the monster's blood, while my sword shined in the glimmers of dawn yet my attire remained as perfect and graceful as always. The bodies of slain monsters lay on the ground, charred after the spell.

"Aaawoooooo!"

A long and drawn-out howl filled with ruthless bloodlust erupted at this point. Wolf howls could be heard all around. Streak after streak of black shadowy wolves appeared in the distance, each about 2-3 metres long, and their speeds were such that they were followed by a shimmering black afterimage.

"Direwolves!"

Swoosh!! Swoosh!!

I increased the distance between us with [Ethereal Shift].

A Direwolf was normally a [Dark] class threat, but if there were a large number of them, the danger could rise to [Vlam] class.

I looked at the two dozen or so black shadows growling in the distance, but my face remained calm. It appears that 'my self' was accustomed to these circumstances.

Slash, Slash, Slash! Slash! Slash, Slash, Slash!

I made repeated slashes with my sword in the air, splitting the air in half, and two dire wolves fell to the ground, cleaved into two!

"Howwwwl"

Angry with their companions, their bloodlust soared once more, meanwhile an unknowing smile formed on my face.

When I willed my mana, a strange glow engulfed my sword.[ Sword Aura] - an essential requirement for becoming an 'Aurur Knight.'

As I cleaved down my sword, one of the dire wolves charging at me had a hole torn in its chest, causing it to roll back as blood sprayed into the air.

"Aowuuu!"

As the dire wolves continued to snarl, a frown formed on my face, and a disgust for the scent of blood formed within me.

I was drained from the fight from earlier and with the continuous use of mana now, I felt a dizzying feeling wash over me.

'Damn it'

Unknowingly, I gritted my teeth as anger surged inside me. A group of lowlife monsters had made me so tired that I felt disgusted at myself.

The dire wolf in front of me finally attacked, and a gleaming claw specked with blood slashed toward me, bringing a hot wave of air with it.

I willed my mana in the sword once more and gathered my strength in my arms, sweeping my sword to the right and striking the claw away.

BANG!

The dire wolf took a few steps backward as a result of the impact.

Another pack of ferocious wolves charged at me. I drew a brilliant arc with the sword while my legs moved into a path. The blade pierced the dire wolf in the air, causing his lifeless body to fall to the ground.

Twisting my torso, I exerted strength into my arms and drew the sword across in a horizontal slash, the sword piercing the air and the dire wolves' flesh.

Plop, Plop, Plop!

A few more bodies lay lifeless on the ground.

I glanced around, and a dozen of them remained more. But something bothered me, an unknown presence.

"You can come out now."

I commanded, an order befitting those of Auror Knights belonging to The Auror Order.
