Chapter 11 - Chapter 11: Erina's Admirers

MICHEAL URADA

Yesterday, I felt like the lady of luck had blessed me. It felt like finally after a long long time she was giving me her love but noooo..

No, it turns out she doesn't fancy me after all.

I usually don't attend the litreature class, the only reason I even found out about it was because of Sephtis. He is the only person I know who genuinely attends that class with interest. Totally weird, but then again its Sephtis.

Although, it is a good time-pass on the weekends. Compared to all that terrible torture Arcadum inflicts upon the students, this is heaven. But still, I am not stupid hear to come hear the rubbish that is being teacher in the litreature class everyday. I only attend it on the weekends, just like many other students who have nothing better to do at that time.

This time being the only exception. This was the first time I was attending this class on a monday. And the first thing I had noticed as soon as I stepped into this classroom was how silent it was.

Besides me there were only about ten students. And none if them seemed to be in a group. They were all siting far apart from each other, some even dozing off at the back of the class. With how big this classroom was, the lack of student almost made it look empty.

If it weren't for the overly enthusiastic teacher shouting about the wonders of poems, I would've thought this place to be peaceful.

I considered leaving the class but then I couldn't help but think that maybe the next person to enter this classroom could be her. I had already arrived here, waiting for a few minutes couldn't hurt anyone.

I almost got my hopes up when after a few minutes a boy from first year entered the classroom. He was from Mysa's group. The bulky dude, who looked too big fir a first year...Juan, I think was his name?

As I expectantly looked at him, I was soon disappointed to see that he had come alone. He noticed my gaze, though. And then walked up to my desk

"So, you here alone?" Those first words escaped from my mouth without much thought as Juan came to a stop before my desk.

"Yes." Juan answered.

As expected, I secretly sighed. I had noticed this yesterday, but this guy really didn't know to talk.

Being not that social myself, it was a pain to try interacting with these sorts of people. I even found myself just feeling awkward in the few seconds of silence that settled between us as I tried to think up of some conversation starter.

"Don't forget about your old friend, Just cause you made some new ones motherfucker!!"

Two hands grabbed my shoulders from behind and started shaking me back and fro as a shrill voice sounded way too close to my ears.

This guy...!

I immediately slapped the hands grabbing my shoulder. And quickly turned around to glare at the culprit who had slipped inside this class without me noticing it.

Of course, it was none other than Sephtis Agustine.

"Don't be Embarrassing!" I chided.

I could feel the stares of everyone in the classroom turn towards us, even the teacher went quite for a second. I kept my silent glare aimed at Sephtis who was giggling away to himself.

Then the teacher resumed with her lecture and I finally had enough courage to turn around and look at Juan who was standing in front of my desk.

If he found this spectacle strange, he didn't show it. And i felt immediately grateful for his unsocial behavior at the moment.

"Well, Nice to meet you. First year, right?" Sephtis circled around and came in front to stand besides Juan.

Me and Charlie had talked about meeting and talking with the first year students when we were hanging out in Flamingo. Although we had both tactfully not mentioned Mysa Agustine.

Juan nodded his head and then extended his hands towards Sephtis.

"Juan Feek."

"Sephtis Agustine."

Sephtis and Juan shook hands and at the moment, I didn't miss the startled look Juan had across his face.

It was an obvious reaction. Among many things I am sure he was thinking back to Mysa. That was one reaction I expected and also wanted to avoid from one of Mysa's friend.

It was probably too late to have the conversation, but I made a mental note to have the conversation regarding Mysa with Sephtis directly after this.

After all, the worst case scenario of Sephtis and Mysa running into each other had to be avoided.

"So yeah, Juan this is Sephtis ky classmate. Sephtis this is Juan I met him here yesterday."

"Oh, a fellow literary enthusiast?" Sephtis said looking at Juan with his trademark smile.

"No. I just came here to...hang out you know?" Juan spoke with much difficulty.

You came here to hang out alone? Could've brought some friends along with you, man

I thought bitterly, but then I noticed Juan's gaze stray towards the very front of the class, towards the left most desk where she sat.

Ohhhhhhh

"Figures, you don't really look the part."

Juan's brows furrowed as he focused his gaze back onto Sephtis.

"But you are here for the same reason most boys frequently visit this classroom. So you might just gell well here." Sephtis continued on speaking as he turned his head to stare at the desk Juan was just peaking at.

It was a bit comical to see the giant guy suddenly get startled. He seemed to go through ten different emotions before looking around at all the other boys in the class. Probably seeing them in a very different light.

I didn't need to look around to know that Sephtis was telling the truth. After all, it was the Erina Royalte.

"I just wanna...get to know her." Juan said in a surprisingly embarrassed manner.

Well, I feel him. Almost all the boys in our year had gone through that phase before begrudgingly realising that it just wouldn't work for them. Even I had some dreams about it, but then you have to realise that some people just live in a different world.

"Hmm, if you want I can help you with that." Sephtis said with a mischievous smile, surprising both Juan and me.

"Really?" Juan said. Although he didn't show it in his face I could tell that this giant felt overjoyed.

Would he..?

I felt a bit skeptical looking at Sephtis's confidence face.

"Sure, if you just wanna know then I can help you with that. First of all, Cmon lets just say a quick hello." And with that Sephtis turned and began walking towards Erina Royalte's desk.

Juan went from overjoyed to nervous to serious in a matter of seconds as he followed behind Sephtis.

I was left stunned sitting at my desk there. Almost instinctively, I made to stand up from my desk but then thought twice about it. Looking at the two retreating backs I thought a bit hard but ultimately shook my head and decided to stay behind. I couldn't really handle the possible trouble that came with that.

Although I still paid rapt attention to the scene. Sephtis soon neared the desk, and I could see him raise his hands and barely hear his casual greeting. Juan was a few steps behind, and for all his giant frame, he seemed to be hidden behind Sephtis.

I could see Erina's head turn away from the blackboard and towards Sephtis. And for some weird reason I held my breathe in anticipation. As did Juan, no doubt.

Then she nodded at him, Sephtis. For some baffling reason even that little nod left an impression on me. I had seen Sephtis interact with her before and just like before this time it also felt surreal. It was one of the most impressive things about my friend that he was very nonchalant about.

Well, he was probably the only one who could without suffering any repercussions.

As darks thought clouded my mind, Erina's gaze slid from Sephtis to Juan. And then from Juan to me, freezing me in my desk. I quickly looked away pretending to be looking at the teacher before realising that there was no reason for me to do so.

Then when I looked back at the scene, surprisingly Sephtis had sprawled down on the desk right behind Juan. An intense wave of regret rose up in my heart as Juan joined Sephtis in his desk.

But as the class continued on I gradually consoled myself.

After all, look at Juan. He was stiff as a board. I couldn't really hear them from all the way, but I was sure that Juan hadn't opened his mouth even once. Sephtis seemed to be talking casually while leaning his head on the desk. Erina didn't turn around but I could see her leaning behind as her mouth opened and closed every so often.

Even though, Juan was sitting right there. I could tell that there wasn't much of a difference from him sitting here in my position. He didn't talk, he was too nervous, I could almost see how I would've been if I approached her.

In fact, as I felt a gradual comradeship with Juan, I could almost garuntee. That even though he was sitting right there. Just like me he couldn't make head or tails of the conversation that was taking place between Sephtis and Erina.

Sephtis didn't talk only to Erina though, he also turned around and talked to a boy that was sat in the desk behind their's. I think he was in Class-A of our year. He was a really thin guy that I had seen a few times around the hall.

Juan though didn't seem to able to talk to anybody.

I could almost see the smoke coming out of his brain by the time the class came to an end. As soom as the bell rang, Sephtis stood up and he and Juan immediately made their way towards my desk.

"I can't believe it.." Juan whispered appearing dumbfounded as he neared my desk.

"Hehe, lucky bastard." I lightly joked around as I stood up from my desk, giving Juan a light punch on the shoulder. Juan let out a small chuckle, the first time I had seen him do.

Now no need to be so happy. Its not like anything was accomplished.

Sephtis lazily stretched his arms, acting very nonchalantly as Juan gave him an overly serious 'thank you'.

As us three exited the classroom, the very first students out of there, I could instinctively tell that Juan's happiness would be short lived.

But it didn't really involve me, so I refrained from talking about it. Plus, Juan should enjoy this time. And feel happy for having interacted with Erina, while he still could.
