Chapter 18 - Stop messing with everyone

After the two left the cafeteria, they headed straight for Dora's car.

Dora looked at Clifford's outfit, he was wearing a casual outfit. A plain shirt and a black trouser with a pair of sneakers. The outfit fitted him but it was too casual for the occasion. He would be looked down on by others.

"Let's go get you a new wear for the occasion," she said. Clifford was a bit embarrassed, he needed to get expensive wears too. Another occasion might come up in the future, casual wears couldn't be worn to these special occasions. He needed to start earning money to get himself these needs.

Dora's chauffeur drove them to a fashion store for men. Dora ordered for some expensive cool wears that were Clifford's size. She paid for the wears. Clifford tried some of them so as to choose the perfect one for the occasion, he later settled for a black tuxedo with a black trouser with a laced polished shoe.

His long brown hair was well combed and shiny. He simply looked stunning. Dora was dazed for a second when she saw him.

Clifford noticed it, he just chuckled inwardly.

The other wears were delivered to Clifford's suite at the hotel while he left for the occasion with Dora. The venue of the occasion was fifteen minutes drive from the hotel. It was a large mansion, the host of the occasion was the owner of the mansion. There were a lot of influential people there, it seemed like the occasion had just started. Waiters are already serving champagne and other variety of drinks to the people. There were quite a lot of people at the occasion, the host seemed to be a very important person. Almost all the big shots of the City were there. If they were not there in person, someone influential from them would represent.

The host of the occasion was celebrating his son's achievement in his cultivation of magic, his son had just attained Super mage rank at a young age of twenty eight. It was a very impressive achievement. It was a special thing worthy of celebration, most mages get stuck at the Advanced rank for the rest of their lives. Even the old and powerful mages at the occasion achieved the rank at their old age.

The occasion was held in a hall that was inside the mansion, the hall was specially built for occasions like this. All the people at the occasion were dressed in costly attires. They moved around gracefully while some discussed in groups. They all behaved well and respectfully, only a occasion full of influential people could be as graceful as this. Normally when a person attends such a social occasion for the first time, there's tendency they would feel intimidated especially if they were not from a powerful background. But the case was different for Clifford, he was well composed and walked confidently. Even Dora was surprised at his composure. The way he composed himself, it was like he had attended this kind of occasion multiple times.

They found a table that was void of people, Dora and Clifford took a seat each by the table. They were served a glass of champagne each. While they were discussing, a young man sighted Clifford. The young man was Casper Harrington, he was beaten up by Clifford few days ago. Seeing Clifford, images of the way he was humiliated by Clifford flashed in his memories. He subconsciously rubbed his left cheek where he was hit by Clifford. Thanks to healing mages, his wound was cured and not even a scar remained. Only the stigma of humiliation remained, he had sworn to teach Clifford a lesson. He looked at the person Clifford was talking to and his eyes almost popped out of his socket. He was unconscious when Dora came that day, so he didn't know she was acquainted with Clifford.

He saw the sweet smile on her face when she was talking with Clifford and he almost went crazy with jealousy. He had been chasing Dora for some time, fawning over her so he could win her favour. He was secretly in love with her. Unfortunately for him, Dora never looked at him once. She gave him no chance at all. Dora was accustomed to men fawning over her. Despite her young age, she had many suitors who asked her father for her hand in marriage but she never deemed any one of them worthy of her. Casper of course was one of these men, he suffered the same fate as the rest but he was determined not to give up. Seeing her smile when talking to Clifford made him want to devour Clifford. Dora had always been cold to every one, that was the first time Casper had seen her smile. Her smile was the most beautiful and charming but he was mad the smile was for another man.

Not only Casper, other young men at the occasion seemed to notice Clifford and Dora too. They gazed at Clifford murderously and enviously. If gazes were able to tear people apart, Clifford would be torn to pieces by now.

Clifford also took notice of the envious gazes around him, he didn't know why but he seemed to be enjoying it. Perhaps he now enjoyed attracting trouble. He grabbed his glass of champagne and took a few sip, the young men wished he choked on the drink.

Casper wasn't going to stand there and watch, he called a few of his lackeys and led them to where Clifford and Dora was seated.

Clifford was expecting this, he recognized Casper right away.

"This lad needs more discipline," he thought while he sipped his drink gently.

Casper arrived and said to Clifford, "Stand up, I have things to discuss with Miss Dora. You're not even worthy of having a chat with her." He said in a rude manner.

"Casper, what is the meaning of this." Dora stared at him coldly.

"I'm trying to get him away from you, he will soil your reputation of you keep him around you." Casper said. Clifford just sat there and watched them.

"It's none of your business." Dora rolled her eyes at Casper.

"Hey lad, how's your cheek?" Clifford asked Casper with a wicked grin on his face. He asked this intentionally so as to provoke Casper.

Casper's face twitched, he was going to lose his patience but he was no match for Clifford. He could overpower him with the lackeys he brought but this was a special occasion, he wouldn't dare cause a ruckus.

"You're lucky this is a special occasion, you'd be dead meat by now if it was another place." Casper said to Clifford.

Clifford gave out a soft laugh. "All of together, you can't touch a hair on my body. You're all no match for me." Clifford said while he pointed provocatively at them.

It worked perfectly, his words provoked every single one of them. They wanted to tore Clifford to pieces, what was stopping them was the place they were.

"You're nobody in this City. When I'm done with you, you will beg for your miserable life. Casper threatened again.

"Leave here at once, if you don't want to feel my wrath." A voice said from behind. Everybody looked to where the voice came from. Thomas was seen standing there.

Despite boiling with rage, Casper restrained himself from causing a ruckus. He left with his lackeys after he gave Clifford a threatening stare.

"You should stop messing with everyone you have a confrontation with," Thomas warned Clifford. He was aware of Clifford's strength and capabilities but he felt he should stop him from messing with everyone.

"I can't let anyone intimidate me." Clifford replied.

"Thomas admired Clifford's confidence more, "this lad is some tough guy." I like tough guys, he should be able to protect Dora." He thought.

"Don't worry man, you're part of the family now. Thomas said while he patted Clifford's shoulder while he walked away.

"Hmmmm! Clifford nodded. I didn't ask to be part of the family." Clifford replied. Thomas stopped in his tracks.

"It doesn't matter brother, you're always welcome to the family." He said and then left.

Dora was amused by Clifford, she didn't expect him to turn the offer down. He was unlike the other men she had seen all her life. Those greedy lads would grab any opportunity to fawn on her, they would accept the offer right away.

She realized she crushing on him, but how could she fall for a person without a strong background. Her brother might agree to it, but her parents would not. They would want to marry her off to another powerful family with solid background. That was how most of the powerful families allied with each other.
