"Can't you see we are on a date?" Ashley asks after pulling away from our kiss.
"A date?" Matteo asks glancing at me, I just look away.
"Yes a date. Luke is my boyfriend now" she chirps.
"This isn't funny Ashley" he growls.
"Its not suppose to be" she shrugs.
"You know he's my mate!" He growls.
"Excuse me, I'm not your..mate? Or whatever, I'm not yours" I interject, "I'm Ashley's boyfriend"
"Ashley!" Matteo growls slamming his fist down on the table making me jump away.
"You heard the man, he doesn't want you" she says shrugging small, making Matteo look at me, my eyes just stay down.
"Is that true Luke? You don't want me?" He asks, I can feel his eyes on me.
"I don't" I whisper, finally looking at him "I'm straight"
"You let me kiss you" he growls.
"I didn't, I" I fumble with my words.
"It was obviously a mistake, Matteo" Ashely finally interupts.
"You're going to regret this Ashley" Matteo growls one last time before storming off.
"Well that was eventful" she mumbles, "You okay?" She asks, as if she was actually concerned.
"Yeah" I mutter looking at her.
"Good, let's continue with our date" she says with a small smile.
As the date continued, things weren't as relaxed as it was. We forced conversations. It didn't seem as natural. Finally though, we said our goodbyes and went home. As I got home, the whole house was dark. I could feel eyes on me as I walked inside. Quickly I locked the door behind me.
I walked upstairs, it's about nine at night. As I get upstairs I notice it's super quiet. As I walk into my room, the light was already on. My mother sitting on my bed. I stare at her as she stares at me. No one saying anything. Finally she spoke after a good minute of staring.
"How was your date?" She asks.
"Good" I mumble shrugging small, "Why?"
"Just curious" she hums staring at me.
"Is something wrong?" I asks standing in the doorway.
"No" she replies standing up from my bed, "I just want you to know, things better be going well. You know how your step-father is"
"Yeah, you have nothing to worry about" I boredly mumble, "I'm tired, can I go to bed now?"
"Yeah, of course" she says giving me a weak smile before leaving my room. I shut the door behind her. Slowly I walk further into my room, sitting on my bed. What was that about? I guess it doesn't matter. I just want to sleep. I slip from my jeans and tee and then lay down in my bed.
"Fuck" I whisper staring up at the ceiling.
A week has gone by since Ashley and I became an official couple at school. For some reason my social statues has seemed to go up. More people seem to know and like me. It's Friday now. Ashley has a football game she's cheering at tonight. I decide to surprise her with flowers afterwards, even though Matteo will most likely be there.
Tomorrow we are going to have dinner with my mother and step-father, by my step-father's request. I hate John sometimes. As it gets closer towards the end of the game I head to our local flower shop. I grab some red roses for her, which are super expensive by the way.
I put them in my car and then head towards the school. Once there I see the game is still in play. Great. Now I'm going to have to sit and watch. Getting out I grab the flowers for Ashley and head towards the home side of the field. Once Ashley sees me and the flowers a huge grin appears on her face.
"Luke!" She calls over the crowd. As I walk onto the bleachers she rushes over to them, "You got me flowers?"
"Of course I did" I smile small handing them down to her.
"Thank you! You're the sweetest!" She chirps making the other cheerleaders giggle and squeal.
"I'll see you after the game" I call out to her over the crowd. I find myself a seat in the least crowded area and wait for the game to end. About fifteen minutes passed and finally the game was over. I stay seated as people leave. Our school won.
"Luke!" Ashley calls making my look up from my phone.
"Hey" I smile standing and walking over to her.
"You're too sweet to me" she says gripping my shirt as we hug.
"Haha" I awkwardly laugh, then she kisses me again. Mentally I'm cringing. However, I kiss her back.
"Thank you baby" she smiles.
"Of course. Let's get out of here" I smile at her taking her free hand into mine.
"Where are we going?" She asks as I lead her off the bleachers and towards my car.
"You'll see" I mumble.
"Another surprise? Aren't you the romantic" she giggles swining our hands.
"I try" I chuckle awkwardly. To be honest, things between Ashely and I are great. Its just weird sometimes, she knows I'm gay yet it feels so real, her feelings for me. But it's all just for show. I don't mind spending time with her alone, like tonight, but as friends. She's not as mean as she was. Which is nice.
"Ashley, Luke" Matteo says strolling up to us with Masie. They are holding hands.
"Hey" I awkwardly murmur glancing at Ashley.
"Luke I just wanted to apologize" Masie mumbles, "When I found out you might be gay I overreacted. But I guess you aren't gay, huh?"
"Yeah" I chuckle awkwardly, holding Ashley's hand tightly.
"So whatcha guys need?" I ask "We were just heading out of here"
"Well, I just wanted to apologize and let you know I started seeing Matteo" Masie smiles "We actually have a lot in common"
"Oh" I didn't know what to say, Ashley's hand tightens around mind.
"Yeah, do you accept it?" She asks. "My apology?"
"Of course, we're best friends Masie. Nothing will change that" I smile.
"Thank you Luke" she smiles.
"Matteo, a moment" Ashley says letting go of my hand and grabbing his leading him off.
Is it bad I'm actually really jealous. I know I put myself here. But Masie got the guy I wanted. But that's life.
