Chapter 10 - Shifts in balance [2]

The door of the mysterious Air Vessel was wide open and the strangers alighted coming to the view of the soldiers manning the Walls.

The five approaching soldiers had their spears aimed at them but they were not aiming. And so, a soldier with a father complex infused his spear with too much spiritual energy and shot a spear-shaped beam of fire out of his spear toward kitty.

Kitty's cute face twitched in anger as her hand slapped the beam back at the soldiers at double the speed at which it came toward her

The beam hit the soldier and he fainted on spot. The vice-captain looked at the rest of the five, which he had come with, and asked "is he dead."

The captain broke out of his reverie and put on a mean face "Who are you? Where are you from? And what do you want in Morntelle?!"He roared from the watch space.

Kitty put her hand which she used to counter the beam in her pocket hurriedly, her blue eyes turning misty no matter how much she tried to hold back. Gritting her teeth, her face reddened as she endured the smarting pain caused to her hand.

The one who shot the beam wasn't even that strong, but there was something special about the spear that made it cause so much pain, apart from the beam being fire attributed.

Due to her having a Pure Spirit without any attribute, she could manipulate pure spiritual energies. But when she countered the beam shot at her, it turned out to be a fire-attributed spiritual energy beam. Thus her hand was hurting, a little.

If it was her immortal form, she wouldn't have felt anything "Damned be to this mortal form."She cussed out silently, trying her best to look unhurt.

Liam stepped forward with a serious face and prepared to say something.

One of Loki's hairpins shifted a little as he prepared to unleash his bloodlust on the soldiers but Conan expected it—since the soldiers had attacked them first anyway—and stopped Loki from causing a massacre.

He looked at kitty who also looked like she was on the end of her rope and her pain was turning into anger, he caressed her hair to calm her down, but unknown to him Liam had beaten the soldiers to a pulp already and was dealing with the vice-captain.

Bright flames erupted from Liam's longsword as he and the vice-captain clashed weapons, but the vice-captain was barely hanging on.

Liam hit the sergeant's chest with his palm and a flamy explosion was created on impact, hurling the sergeant away to a not-so-far distance, rendered unconscious.

Liam laughed maniacally and a bright light and heat erupted from his body, which earned him looks of awe from the soldiers and the captain.

Liam's angelic bloodline gave him the ability to use the common ability used by angels, by manifesting his Aura which was bright as day. but in his mortal form, was as bright as a lamp.

But it was still a bizarre occurrence for the mortals, thus, they were awed.

"Oh, gods... That aura, it's holy."A female soldier marveled.

"Praise me, mortals! For your drag-"Liam was proclaiming but got swatted away by Conan and almost lost his footing, he lost control over his Aura manifestation and everything returned to normal.

Conan sighed and glanced at Liam "Really? You just arrived and you already picked a fight?"Conan pretended to reprimand Liam loudly so the soldiers could hear.

"What? I thought they wanted to spar since they attacked little kit first."Liam proved himself innocent and looked at kitty, who gave him a discreet thumbs up.

Conan sighed and gazed at the captain, the captain also met his gaze and was weirded out by his eyes' reflectiveness, but he somehow understood what Conan's gaze meant.

"Ca-Captain?"The captain's assistant looked at the captain tentatively but all he saw was the captain jumping off the wall to meet the aliens.

The captain landed from the sky tall height of the watch space, situated in the middle of the Great Wall of Morntelle easily, without any casualty.

The captain looked at Conan with a stern face and avoided looking directly at his oddly reflective eyes. He felt that if he kept looking at it, all his sins and secrets will be revealed to the mysterious man.

Because he kept seeing himself in those mirror-like eyes of Conan and it made him subconsciously evaluate himself.

"I'm sorry about what my brother did but our family has been living in seclusion at the very end of the plane since before we were born, that's why he doesn't have much common sense," Conan said calmly to the captain guard.

"It's okay, it's our fault, but you have to take responsibility for it."The captain said stiffly, he doesn't even know why he was so stiff when talking to him. Perhaps, because he felt the indifferent gaze of the beautiful lady with white hair on him, or maybe because of Conan himself.

"We were attacked first, how could you ask for us to take responsibility?" Conan scowled, he wasn't expecting this.

If it were the Ancient times, they'd had kissed his shoes and opened the gate for him to enter through because he was powerful, but now, it seemed like the captain can't even sense how powerful he was even as a mortal.

And what was even more strange? He sensed the spiritual energy of the captain coming not from his spirit but from his chest like he was borrowing it.

"But the mistake was done by just one man, why do the rest have to suffer for the sin of one man?"The captain refuted and looked at Conan's eyes for once but he got terrified instead by its weirdness.

The eyes became mirror-like all of a sudden and felt like he was watching himself and not Conan.

Conan sighed again. He closed his eyes and avoided the man's eyes, making the man feel more at ease. 'my eyes.'

The man saw Conan's eyes dim and now it became less intimidating, although still reflective. In this mortal form, Conan can't use his Oracular eye and can only use his normal eyes to guess people's thoughts and intents.

There wasn't even a slit on his forehead...

"Okay..."Conan brought out a porcelain bottle from his spatial ring and handed it to the captain but didn't give it to him "...but on one condition, you let us in and let one of your soldiers guide us and tell us about this new... about the kingdom."

The captain looked at Conan skeptically and then called on a female soldier who wore a white headscarf and a silk coat over her full body armor.

The female soldier unbottled the porcelain bottle and took a smell of its content. Her hazel eyes widened and her lips sagged in surprise "This... this is an elixir!"

The captain was stupefied and asked again "The goddess of life, Athen is the only one who gives elixirs to her followers, are you sure of what you're saying?"

She replied, "Y-yes captain, it's an elixir, which is very rarer than alchemical medicines as it is made of transcendent energy—Aether." The female soldier then added, "This one is of lesser quality, that which Athan gives though, contains her healing divinity."

"It was made by my father, "Conan added. He lied with a smile.

"It was made with the Aether ener-"Liam talked but he was cut short by the captain and soldier duo.

"We know!"The Captain and soldier blustered in unison.

"And how do we even know that you're not a threat?"The captain sighed and asked. The day was filled with too many wonders and he was starting to get tired. He was even starting to think of taking a sweet nap after.

"Does a threat gives you an elixir to heal the wounds of mere soldiers?"Conan's neutral gaze morphed into a condescending one as he looked at the beaten-up soldiers before his gaze turned neutral again "They have broken bones at most, not missing hearts nor limbs."

The captain then nodded in realization "R-right, you can enter the kingdom, but we have to register your names first as a citizen, are you okay with that?"

"Of course," Liam answered immediately, before Conan could, his voice full of excitement.

"Well then, Tianah will take around."The captain said as he left, he looked at Tianah—The female soldier—and said "Tianah, make sure you see through their needs."

Tianah nodded, having comprehended the hidden message behind the captain's orders, and looked at Conan who told her to "wait a minute."Then went to the rest and told them to walk over to get acquainted with the female soldier.

He placed his hand on the Air Vessel's smooth body and it vanished into his spatial ring immediately, leaving the wind howling and filling the suddenly vacant space.

The soldiers were amazed again. Not everyone uses a relic these days, only the Nobles do. 'If one of them could possess a spatial ring, then they are not spies. What spy wears such chic clothes anyway?'Their thoughts went along that line.

Conan went back to Tianah and the rest and found kitty clumsily introducing herself. On the other hand, Liam wasn't ashamed but was high-spirited. On the contrary, Zoe and Loki didn't bother and just let their gaze wander around in curiosity.

Conan went to Tianah and introduced himself "My name is Conan, and these are my siblings, Liam, Zoe, kitty, and Loki. nice to meet you."

Conan put on an amicable aura, to make her feel at ease, so he could have the information he needed from her, with more ease— that is to say, he could get it through brute force if he wanted, but he had no idea what the new world was like and if how much it was related to the gods.

Tianah blushed a little under his gaze, but didn't lose her composure "My name is Tianah and I am a follower of Athan, Goddess of Aether" She introduced herself and gestured for them to follow her "Nice to meet you all."

"Nice to meet you too..."Liam muttered as he followed her towards the ginormous gates smilingly. The others also followed but Liam was like glue attached to tianah, asking question after question.
