Jessie entered the bathroom to take her bath the following morning as she was getting ready for the day. She didn't know her way around San Diego, so she had made the decision the previous evening after dinner to spend the rest of the afternoon reading a book before dropping off her clothing measurements at the registrar, as her aunt Billy had instructed her. After that, she would prepare for tonight's party.
She performed the same ritual in the bathtub with Linda and the other members of the candle she had named, but this time the water was much hotter than it had been the previous evening as she bathed. It was getting close to December, and it was a chilly time of year.
