Nuri looked around their temporary safe house and wondered how long they would have to stay there. It was unnerving having to leave everything he knew behind.
He had never taken long trips through the Void. Maybe it was because the only Void Walkers he knew personally were Kin and Jimin. And since they never left his side, trips through the void weren't necessary.
Both men were very strong believers in not taking unnecessary trips through the Void. Despite their stance on unnecessary void walking, both Kin and Jimin made sure he knew how to enter the void and how to prevent someone from pulling him in.
He remembered seeing Kin for the first time since the explosion. He also remembered listening to him voice his suspicions about who was behind the attack on Jimin.
He wasn't a fan of the Grandmaster. However, thinking that she wanted to kill the current Leader of the house of EverNight was making him so angry that he was losing control of his powers.
He was startled about his mussing by the door being banged open. He was shocked to see Daeshim's grandmother Yuna standing in his living room with a few men.
Nuri knew they didn't have a token to enter the wards. He had no chance of fighting them off if they tried to take his son. He hoped an alert was sent out at the unauthorized entry.
When they first met Daeshim's maternal grandmother, Jimin wasn't ready to give her a chance. He was quite vocal about the fact that the woman who allowed her daughter to abandon her grandson was not worth having in their lives. After discussions with both Jimin's father and Nuri's uncle, both Nuri and Jimin were willing to give her a chance.
But that all changed when they caught her trying to induce 2-year-old Daeshim into seeing a vision. She was banned from their home and properties. But that hadn't stopped her from trying to see Daeshim behind their backs
The last time they met her she demanded custody of Daeshim. She had claimed that she was worried about Daeshim's well-being. She also claimed that Jimin was an unfit father because he was part of a soul group – something society still frowned upon.
While Nuri was shocked and outraged at her demands, Jimin acted like he expected her to do something like this. They were saved from an ugly confrontation by Jimin's fathers' timely arrival. For some reason, the woman was terrified of the former Mafia members. She left, muttering about returning with lawyers.
It was during one of their bonding sessions that Jimin told him that his father had suffered through something similar. Jimin's mother found out that her husband's soulmate was another man. She demanded that the man choose between her and her soulmate. He chose his soulmate and lost custody of his biological kids because of her lies and manipulations.
They hadn't heard from Yuna for two years. Yet here she was breaking all sorts of laws to get her hands on a seer.
"How did you get in here?" He demanded, "You can't get in here without a token."
She held up a bloody inner clan token and sneered "As long as you know who to approach, you can always get what you want.
Nuri's eyes widened in horror as he realized what she meant. "What did you do?"
"Well, all I can say is that your clan will have to redo its petrol schedules." She sat on the sofa and glared at Nuri "I demand custody of Daeshim. You're an unfit father."
"What are you talking about? I love Daeshim and I take proper care of him." Nuri took the chair to the right and glared back at her, compartmentalizing the fact that this woman had killed someone from his clan just to get to Daeshim.
"You think you, of all people, are capable of raising my grandson?"
Nuri scoffed at the woman "We've told you this before, Yuna-ishi. My soul group has nothing to do with my ability to be a responsible father. We are happy. Why can't you leave us alone?"
"I can't believe you would do this to Daeshim," Yuna said, shaking her head. "You're putting him in danger by living this lifestyle. He needs a stable, loving environment."
He tried to reason with Yuna and explain that he was doing everything he could to take care of both Daeshim and his soul group. However, Yuna refused to listen.
"I won't let you put Daeshim in danger like this." She yelled getting up from her seat.
Nuri was confused. He knew that the fact that he was a part of the Soul Group had nothing to do with his ability to be a responsible father. He wondered if Yuna knew something they didn't and if his soul group was in danger.
She motions to the men with her and they head for the stairs to the loft where Daeshim was sleeping.
Alarmed Nuri got up and followed them towards the stairs when a portal opened at the base of the stairs. Both of his tough and no-nonsense bodyguards walked through the open portal.
Nuri felt relief wash over him as he watched three members of his soul group walk toward the group heading for the stairs. He was so grateful that Jimin assigned them to Nuri's protection detail after his scandal with Yoo Hanna. They always knew when he needed them the most.
"Kim Yuna-ishi, I'm afraid I'm about to have to ask you to leave," Ibuki said firmly. "You have no right to come into someone else's home and take their child by force."
Yuna was taken aback by the bodyguard's boldness, but she didn't back down.
"You have no right to tell me what to do!" Yuna was livid that her plan to get her grandson had failed miserably. "I'll call the cops for child neglect."
"You broke the law," Kin said softly. "You walked into clan territory, killed our clansmen, and broke into Omega Prime's home. You know that clan lands are outside the Police jurisdiction. You'll face clan justice if you call the cops."
"I'll be back and you won't be able to stop me," she said as she stormed out of the room, her men following her out the door.
As soon as the danger passed, Boss led Nuri to the sofa and sat him down.
"I can't thank you enough for what you did," Nuri said, his voice heavy with emotion.
Nuri was shaken by the encounter, worried about what was happening to the clan and at the manor. Nuri was grateful to have Kin, Boss, and Ibuki with him. They were not just hired hands but also his soulmates. And out of all his Soulmates they were the most calm and collected.
Boss pulled Nuri into a hug and let the younger man hide his face in his neck. Nuri inhaled deeply breathing in the scent of burning embers, letting it ground his fragile senses.
"You ok?" Boss asked softly carding his fingers through the younger man's hair.
Nuri just nodded and started to pull away from him. "Thank you, Hia."
"You don't have to thank us Nuri-Chan. It's our job to protect you," Ibuki said as Boss let the younger man pull away and sit straight. "And we'll do whatever it takes to keep you and your son safe."
"I was scared," Nuri admitted. "Scared of what might have happened if no one was there to help. I was terrified of losing my son to Yuna."
Kin spoke up, "But you didn't lose your son. We made sure he was safe, and Yuna was stopped before any harm could come to him."
Nuri nodded, "I know, and I'm grateful for that. I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate everything you did. I couldn't have made it through that ordeal without you."
Boss and Ibuki smiled at Nuri while Kin just stood there with a goofy smile on his face.
"We're happy to help. That's what we're here for," Boss said.
Nuri knew he had some of the most dedicated and loyal soulmates in the world. No matter what happened, they would always be there for him and his son, ready to put their lives on the line to protect them.
Dinner was quiet. None of his soulmates said anything and Nuri was thankful. He enjoyed their company but it was really difficult for him to forget why they were here in the first place.
As he watched Boss and Ibuki move around his kitchen after dinner, he realized that he didn't just have soulmates, he had a family with them. Their soulmate bond was an unbreakable bond. He knew the clan would survive anything that came their way. They survived for generations. But with Jimin indisposed, there was no one to guide him on what to do next.
He wanted to just crawl into the nest with his son and shut the world out, to take a few hours and process what was going on. But at the moment he wasn't just the omega prime of the Midnight Runners. He was the clan head. Until Jimin came back it was his job to make sure that the clan was safe.
"Ibuki-san, I need you to join the study." He said before heading for the stairs, mentally preparing himself for the discussion he needed to have with the Clan's second-in-command.
Ibuki looked up from the sink and nodded, placing the last dishes in the sink.
"I have to get back to the manor." Kin said, "I have been missing too long as it is."
Nuri nodded his head and moved towards the stairs. He paused halfway up the stairs and turned back towards the duo in the kitchen. "Boss please make sure that we don't have any unwelcome guests."
