Chapter 39: Guerilla Warfare Part 1
Inside the big tent in the Blood Tribe.
"HOW LONG ARE YOU GOING TO MAKE ME WAIT?!" A middle-aged man sitting on a chair made of bone screamed in anger. "UNTIL NOW YOU STILL HAVE NO IDEA WHERE TO FIND THE PERSON THAT KILLED MY SON! TELL ME, WHAT IS THE USE OF YOU BEING ALIVE?!"
"Please Chieftain! give me more time, I am sure that we are close to finding the person we are looking for." the man pleaded while on his knees. He was the last survivor that fight Vir's group before.
"GIVE YOU MORE TIME?!" The Chieftain rose on his sit and slowly walked towards the kneeling man. "I HAVE GIVEN YOU PLENTY OF TIME, AND YOU DID NOT PRODUCE ANY RESULT!"
The Chieftain pulled out his stone knife on his waist, then he raised his hand intending to cut the man. However, he was interrupted by the sudden shout outside his tent.
"Chieftain! I have important news, can I come in!"
"WHAT IS IT!" The chieftain yelled while one of his hands was in the air.
"We have found another tribe!" The man outside replied.
"Oh… It looks like you are quite a lucky man." The Chieftain said to the kneeling man. He sheathed his stone knife and walked back to his bone throne. "Come in!"
The tribesman outside quickly came inside after hearing the order. He immediately bowed to the chieftain when he saw him sitting on his throne.
"Report!" The Chieftain said while sitting comfortably on his throne. "How big and how many tribesmen do they have?"
"We were not able to confirm how big or how many they are." The man reported. He trembled, afraid of what might happen to him if the Chieftain was displeased.
"Why?" The chieftain asked with a clear annoyance in his voice.
"The tribe we find has a weird trap, one of us falls inside this trap and he instantly burns to death." The man's face became pale when he remembered the scene. "Also, they are patrolling the surrounding of their tribe. I believed they are aware of our activity and now on guard to everyone come near to their tribe."
"A trap? This might be a tribe specialized in using a trap, we still do not have people that specialize in that field in our tribe." The Chieftain became interested. "Go bring 50 tribesmen, destroy that tribe and capture the people, if they resist kill them! And take that useless thing with you."
The Chieftain pointed to the kneeling man and told the one reporting to bring him in the incoming raid. The man reporting immediately accepted the command, he take away the kneeling man and left.
=====
It had been a few days since the Elders order the Arrows to bring Leo and Cari to track the path that scout took. Aponi didn't agree when Chief Viren said that Amra should take part in tracking the possible pathways that the Blood Tribe might take when they attack.
She was worried that something might happen to Amra if she let her come to the Arrows. No matter how much persuasion the Chief did to Aponi she didn't agree. Therefore, the Elders decided that two Lion were enough.
When the White Lions were done tracking a possible route that the scout took. The Elders explained the plan to the Arrows. Thus, The Arrows left some scouts to the possible path that the Blood Tribe might take if they attack. This scout would immediately report if they found something unusual.
Gunnar was not happy with the plan, he felt that the plan was made only for the coward. He believed that fighting should be head-on and not some coward who attacked and retreat. Although Gunnar wasn't happy, he didn't say his displeasure about the plan because Vir repeatedly said to him to listen to the Elders. he didn't want to disappoint Vir, so he followed the Elders' orders without saying anything.
Finally, after waiting for a few more days, one of the Arrows who was on the top of a tall tree scouting saw something. He hastily climbed down the tree and ran to where the Arrows were camping.
"THEY ARE HERE!" The Scout shouted when he was near the camp. "THE BLOOD TRIBE! THEY ARE HERE!"
All the Arrows in the camp gathered when they heard the news. Gunnar instantly question the scout, he didn't even let him rest for a second.
"How many are they?" Gunnar asked hurriedly.
"They are so many of them!" The scout replied in a panic. "They are at least 40 to 50 hunters, coming in the direction of our tribe!"
Even Gunnar who was fearless was a bit worried because of the size of the enemy.
"is not this a good thing?" Berus interjected. "Alfred said that the bigger their forces are, the slower their reaction towards attacks. Because the confusion we can make will be bigger if they have more forces.
Every Arrow regained some confidence when they remember the plan. Berus had a lot of faith in Alfred because he had already seen how successful one of Alfred's plans was. Therefore, he didn't even think that this plan would fail.
"Ok! Everybody should know that plan, right?" Gunnar asked. In truth, he didn't fully understand the plan, but he didn't want to ask about it because of his pride. He hoped that someone might not fully understand the plan like him, so he could have an excuse to make someone explain it again. However, far from his expectations, everyone seemed to comprehend the plan except for him.
"You, Explained the plan again" Gunnar pointed to Berus. "Maybe someone is just embarrassed to ask it, so we can make sure everyone fully understands the plan. Everyone quiet down and listen to him."
All the Arrows became silent when they heard Gunnar and focused their attention on Berus. Berus was surprised by Gunnar, but he didn't get nervous. He was used to the people's attention because he liked telling a story to them when they had time.
"Ok! Listen everyone there is two part of our plan. First, half of the Arrows will ambush the Blood Tribe, they will kill as many as possible before the enemy can react to the attack. After the enemy composed themselves, the Arrows will retreat and if someone chases them, they will lure them where half of the Arrows are waiting and ambush them again. After that, we will rest to regain our stamina and observe our enemy in the distance." Berus explained the first part. However, he did not stop there.
"The second part of the plan is, to wait until the night comes. When our enemies are resting, we will attack them again to disrupt their rest, and as we did in the first attack, we will retreat if they composed themselves. We will just repeat this strategy until our enemy is exhausted and cannot fight anymore, then we will finish them."
All the Arrows including Gunnar nodded their head when they heard the plan again.
"We should start, half of the Arrows come with me," Gunnar commanded. "I will lead the first attack and the rest of the half go to whatever position is that."
The Arrows were about to move, but Berus stopped them.
"Wait do not forget to wear the Runic Items Alfred give to us."
"I do not need them," Gunnar declined. "All those weak can wear those things, but I do not need them I am plenty strong on my own."
Everyone equipped the Runic Items that Alfred prepared for them except Gunnar, he had too much pride to wear something that Alfred made. After that, Gunnar and half of the Arrows left to ambush the Blood Tribe. While Berus and the other half move to the place where they would be ambushing those who follow the retreating Arrows.
Gunnar's group was on the top of the trees waiting for the Blood Tribe hunters to appear. After a few minutes of waiting, they finally saw an image of a group of hunters walking in their direction. All of the Arrows readied themselves by holding their bow and putting an arrow on its quiver.
Finally, the long wait had ended. The Blood Tribe walked inside the range of the Arrows. Gunnar signaled to the Arrows to wait a little longer before they shoot their arrows. When the Blood Tribe was in the middle of their formation, Gunnar signaled to the Arrows to begin their attack.
Gunnar's Group rained the Blood Tribe with arrows. The hunters of Blood Tribe were stunned by the sudden ambush. They were confused about what is going on, like Alfred predicted, the hunters of the Blood Tribe couldn't react immediately to the ambush. The Blood Tribe was starting to have casualties, their hunters start dying 1 by 1. However, this didn't last long.
"WHAT THE HELL ALL OF YOU ARE DOING?!" a Bald man who had a Blood Tattoo on his face shouted. He seemed to be the leader of this group. "SOMEONE IS ATTACKING US! WHAT ARE YOU DOING NOT ATTACKING BACK!"
The Blood Tribe started to regain their composure when they heard the screams of their leader. Gunnar noticed that the bald man seemed to be the leader of the hunter. Therefore, he aimed his bow at the man intending to kill him.
