In the middle of the heated tension, there was light.
I looked up.
The power was finally back. I gently pulled my leg free and cleared my throat.
"Um," I got up and took the dustpan with broken shards with me. "I'll take this outside."
"It's slippery," Jace replied immediately. I cleared my throat again.
"I can manage," I ducked my head and excused myself.
The outside was dark, but since the electricity was back, a few of the lamps around provided lighting.
There was a designated bin for the trash. Despite being the farthest place in the city, the trash collector passes by here once a week to gather the garbage.
The short walk outside allowed my heart to calm down. I blew out a sigh.
I dropped the shards into the waiting black bag.
"Tch," I murmured. "I need to get some sleep."
I looked towards the sky. It didn't have any stars.
Tomorrow might be another rainy day.
