Chapter 1 - 1. The dim light

She delicately opened her enchanting eyes, only to realize that her surroundings were engulfed in darkness. Although she could hear voices echoing around the room, her vision remained blurred, preventing her from discerning any clear figures. A sensation of stiffness and coldness enveloped her body, accompanied by a sharp, stinging pain that coursed through her. She found herself contemplating whether she had transcended into the spirit realm, awaiting the arrival of the grim reaper to claim her soul. Attempting to shift her body, the realization of its weakness and the ensuing pain hindered her movements, restricting her to merely the faintest of finger twitches.

Moments later, the door creaked open, allowing a figure shrouded in blur to enter the room. The sound of footsteps drew nearer, signaling the approach of the enigmatic presence. Struggling to exert control over her body, she braced herself as the figure drew closer and a gentle touch graced her face. It was the nurse attending to her battered form, who had noticed her emergence from the depths of a coma and promptly alerted the doctor.

Within seconds, the doctor and nurse rushed into the ward bearing an array of medical equipment to assess her condition. Though she could only perceive their voices and faint outlines, her senses remained keenly aware of their presence.

"Where am I, please?"she inquired, her confusion palpable as she grappled with the disorientation clouding her perception.

"Am I... deceased?"she ventured once more.

"Are you the harbinger of death come to claim my soul? Please, if that be the case, whisk me away swiftly, for I wish not to linger here any longer,"she implored, perplexed by the sudden silence that had enveloped her. Desperate for clarity regarding her predicament and the inability to see those around her, she could only discern shadowy silhouettes and sense the proximity of those near. In a moment of revelation, her trembling hand found purchase on a coat sleeve, revealing the doctor's presence by her side.

"Please, remove me from this place, for I yearn for release,"she pleaded, her eyes reflecting a profound sense of despair.

"I will assist you out, but first, we must conduct a thorough examination to ascertain your well-being,"the doctor reassured, meeting her gaze with empathy.

"Who are you? Am I among the living or the departed? I implore you, spare me the agony of existence,"she wept, haunted by her past and harboring a fervent desire for eternal repose.

"You are not departed but among the living. Be at peace, for all shall be well,"he consoled her with a soothing tone.

"Nothing is well! I refuse treatment; grant me the solace of death,"she protested vehemently.

"Forgive me, but I am under orders to save you,"he replied, his resolve unwavering.

"Whose orders? I am resigned to my fate; I have no wish for salvation,"she declared, her resolve unyielding as she embraced the prospect of finality.

the narrative commences with Lylah, a renowned and exquisite musical artist at the prestigious Entertainment and Art University. She is not only the daughter of Richard Benton, the president of the benton Group which holds significant control over the economic landscape of X County, but also a member of one of the top five wealthiest families in the region. Lylah's origins trace back to her mother, a humble maid serving the Ming family, who bore Richard's child and was callously expelled from the mansion by his wife, evelyn. In a world devoid of compassion, she entered into motherhood, but tragedy struck when her mother, Tiana, passed away five years later, leaving young Lylah to the mercy of an orphanage in a distant town.

Seven years elapsed before her estranged father finally recognized her and brought her back to their opulent abode. Lylah's existence was marred by the shadow of her father's reputation, branding her as the offspring of a scandalous liaison and a castaway adopted by the benton family. Throughout her educational journey alongside her purported sister Ivy, she strived relentlessly to excel, consistently outshining Ivy and even clinching the prestigious title of College's Best Student. Despite Ivy's privileged status as the legitimate daughter of the illustrious Benton family, she could never surpass the achievements of her stepsister Lylah.

Fuelled by resentment and jealousy, Ivy and her clique orchestrated a campaign of ostracism and verbal abuse against Lylah, tarnishing her reputation among their peers. Incidents of public humiliation, such as being pelted with eggs, became distressingly common occurrences, orchestrated by Ivy to further degrade Lylah's standing. However, the climax of Lylah's tribulations arrived when she was caught in a private conversation with the dashing Ethan, an incident that would inevitably catalyze unforeseen repercussions in her tumultuous journey.

her life didn't end there until she was caught chatting with the handsome ethan by ivy and her friends ....

"how dare she attend the same school as us? What a promiscuous girl,"Anna, one of Ivy's friends who frequently bullies Lylah.

""Her intention in coming here seems to be to captivate the attention of the boys in school. It is indeed quite shameful and foolish of her to engage with Ethan in such a distasteful manner. Ivy, let go and teach a lesson to her that she will not soon forget." olive the daughter of the Emrys family said to ivy beside her who was already burning in anger.

"how dare she approach Ethan, my crush? Is she intentionally provoking us? Let us show her our true strength."Ivy glared at Lylah conversing with the charming Ethan, her expression filled with animosity.

"Let's go,"she commanded, striding towards where Lylah was engaged in conversation with Ethan. She firmly seized lylah's hand and forcefully pushed her away from him, causing her to collide with the wall and land ungracefully on the ground. Ivy advanced towards Ethan, who observed the altercation between the two girls, closing the distance between them until their breaths intertwined....

"Ethel, pay no attention to her, she is not your match. Do you not realize she is contemptible and unworthy of your affection?"With a playful grip on his hand, she glanced at lylah, who remained on the ground, taunting her in Ethan's presence.

Ethan simply gazed at Ivy, feeling perturbed.

"Ethel, my fondness for you is profound. I implore you not to spurn my affection,"she pleaded, gazing at him with endearing eyes. Ethan, vexed by Ivy's persistence, withdrew his hand from ivy's grasp.

"I have no desire to engage in conversation with you,"he declared as he approached lylah, who observed the scene with a calm demeanor. "Please, allow me to assist you,"he continued, extending his hand towards her. Despite his offer, Lylah adamantly declined his help and rose to her feet independently.

"I regret to inform you that I do not require your assistance. I believe it is best for me to depart,"she stated as she gathered her scattered books from the floor, leaving the two of them alone. Disappointed and incensed by Ivy's actions, Ethan decided to leave her be. Meanwhile, Ivy, consumed by anger and jealousy towards Lylah, felt as though she wanted to tear her apart. Just as she was about to make a move towards ethan, her friends intervened and prevented her from doing so.

""how did it went?"they inquired for an explanation.

"You imbeciles! Why did you not intervene? She departed without bidding farewell,"she expressed her frustration towards her two foolish companions.

"We are sorry, we assumed you would pursue her, yet you remained. How audacious of you to cast blame upon us? Are you simply too feeble to pursue her in the presence of Ethan?"she also chided Ivy for her lovesick blindness.

Ivy gazed at her two companions and discreetly distanced herself from their presence before erupting. The two individuals persistently trailed her like devoted ducklings. They proceeded directly to the classroom to approach Lylah, who was engrossed in a book when they were intercepted by the teacher.

"Where have you been? And why are you arriving late for the lecture?"he inquired, anticipating an explanation.

"We... um... why are you questioning us? Perhaps you should inquire of Lylah about our whereabouts,"they responded hesitantly. All eyes turned to Lylah, who was diligently engrossed in her writing. The unexpected attention from her classmates caused her to lose focus and left her bewildered by their words.

" but .....bu.....But " she falter

" "However, what is the truth behind the claim of us catching you engaging in a conversation with a young man outside? If you doubt our words, why not confront her directly?"The teacher initiated a calculated gossip, focusing on Lylah.

"I... was... at..."Lylah attempted to speak but was interrupted by Ethan, who interjected, "She was indeed at the library when I approached her for assistance."He gallantly defended her, sparking a commotion in the classroom.

""I can't fathom the notion of Ethan seeking assistance from a young lady; he rarely solicits help from anyone unless he is concealing his intentions,"two young girls whispered at the back seat.

"Who could have know that an individual like Ethan would take an interest in someone of Lylah's caliber ?,"two young men murmured behind Ethan. This sparked a surge in noise within the classroom.

"Cease the commotion and let us return to the lecture,"the teacher expressed annoyance at the disruption. Following the lecture, Ivy, who remained unsatisfied with the gossip, approached Lylah.

"Here is our esteemed figure of the day,"she exclaimed, clapping and sharing laughter with her companions.

"How dare you? You should not remain composed,"one of Ivy's companions exclaimed furiously, shoving Lylah's head.

"All of you heard what Ethan requested. He sought assistance, and I could not bring myself to decline,"she finally asserted for herself.

"Ha ha... ha, he sought your aid and you could not refuse. Do you comprehend what you are? You are the offspring of a vile woman. Do you grasp my meaning?"Ivy struck Lylah's head with a tome in her hand.

""""Ha... the derisive laughter echoed in the room, aimed cruelly at her as she bore the weight of the hurtful words. With a heavy heart, she rested her head on the desk, tears silently streaming down her cheeks.

"Hu...hu...poor little Lylah, her tears a silent plea for comfort,"Ivy's voice dripped with disdain as she callously poured water over Lylah's trembling form."""

""Here is some water for your tears. Now you are damp,"she chuckled.

"Enough!"a voice boomed through the classroom, silencing the chaos that had erupted. All heads turned to see the stern figure of the principal standing at the doorway, his eyes scanning the room with authority. "What is the meaning of this disturbance?"he demanded, his tone cutting through the tension like a sharp blade.

Ivy, caught off guard by the sudden intrusion, attempted to regain her composure as she faced the principal. "Sir, we were merely discussing a school matter,"she stammered, her facade of innocence faltering under his piercing gaze.

The principal's eyes narrowed as he surveyed the scene before him, noting Lylah's tear-streaked face and the malicious glint in Ivy's eyes. "I see no discussion here, only a display of disrespect and cruelty towards a fellow student,"he stated firmly, his disapproval evident in his voice.

Turning his attention to Lylah, who sat quietly amidst the chaos, he addressed her with a kind yet authoritative tone. "Lylah, do not let the actions of others define your worth. You are a valued member of this school community, and your resilience in the face of adversity is commendable."

With a final glance at Ivy and her companions, the principal dismissed the class, leaving a lingering sense of unease in his wake. As the students filed out of the room, Ivy's facade crumbled, revealing a flicker of remorse in her eyes as she watched Lylah gather her belongings and exit the classroom.

The whispers of the students echoed in the hallway, their voices a mixture of sympathy and curiosity as they discussed the events that had unfolded. Lylah, her head held high despite the tears that stained her cheeks, walked with a quiet dignity that commanded respect from those around her.

And so, the tale of Lylah, a young woman of strength and grace, continued to unfold in the halls of Entertainment and Art University, where her resilience and determination shone brightly amidst the shadows of jealousy and cruelty.

Evelyn, the matriarch of the family, harbors a profound animosity towards Ming Yue, going to great lengths to ostracize Lylah from the estate. Initially, she orchestrates scenarios where Lylah is unjustly blamed for Ivy's transgressions, subjecting her to severe reprimands. Evelyn persistently pressures her husband to expel Ming Yue from their lives, striving to secure her daughter's exclusive place in his affections. Despite Ms. Benton relegating Ming Yue to a servile role within the household, Lylah remains resilient, steadfastly focusing on her academic pursuits and striving for excellence. Ivy, consumed by envy towards Lylah's beauty and renown, resorts to underhanded tactics to incriminate her in illicit activities, leading to disciplinary actions by the school authorities. Meanwhile, Ivy callously bullies underprivileged students from disadvantaged backgrounds, reveling in her clique's cruelty. Despite being provided with a private tutor at school, Ivy neglects her studies and incessantly complains, in stark contrast to Lylah who diligently applies herself to earn her father's trust and pave the way for a brighter future. Despite her aspirations to pursue a career in music, Lylah yearns for her father's belief in her abilities and support for her academic pursuits overseas.
