"Well, no point sitting here in the dark. How do I turn on the light?" I had started to stand up as I talked to myself but the door opened right as I finished the question.
Goliath came in carrying a tray with eggs, toast, and bacon. Well they must be well supplied at least. "There is a switch to your right, She-u. Though it is also on a timer and should switch over, right about-" The light switched from red to normal right as he said about. Goliath shrugged and moved to set the tray on his desk.
"You set the motion activator to tell you when the light came on, didn't you?"
"Yes, I didn't want you to wander around."
"Not going to wander around without clothes."
"I don't know you well enough to know for sure. You seem to be very trusting."
"You must not have my complete school record." I put my feet over the side of the bed facing Goliath's desk, careful to keep the sheet wrapped around me. "Greenie."
"Not sure you should antagonize the man that brings you food, majesty. You can live a long time without it." Goliath didn't turn as he talked. He was busy moving flatware and plates.
"30 days, just like you right. That would suck though. Of course that means you know where the cameras are."
"Yes, they aren't meant to spy on me after all. Well not really. Ravid saw what he wanted, so we should be ok for a while as long as you don't trip any sensors you shouldn't anyway." Goliath handed me one of the plates. "He won't believe me if I say you are compliant enough to be allowed out already, so you are stuck here. I talked to 2-bit carefully about net time, but it is as I thought. There is only one way to get it for you and I am not sure you will like it."
"You can get me online within three days then? I should only need an hour, if that helps."
"It does, I got Ravid to agree because it will show the Government AI that we don't kill our hostages right away at least, which means letting us go with them is a life saving choice. Yet you still won't like it."
"Ok, how can I get online?"
"A Red VR building." I had taken a bite of the eggs. It was silly of me considering he warned me I wouldn't like his solution but I had done it.
Goliath caught the plate before it fell off my lap. He was right I didn't like it. Red VR was adult content virtual reality. I didn't think they had a real connection to the net, what they did have was just for downloading more content. They weren't stigmatized as much anymore but people who visited them young or often got put on psych watch lists. The content chosen was supposed to be confidential so it was a good place for pervs to get their fixes without creeping other people out, or worse hurting them. They were fully immersive though and my mind just couldn't get past the disgusting factor.
I took a breath and then took the plate from Goliath again. My mind raced a bit as I picked at the food. I was supposed to be Goliath's toy after all, but, "Are you known for using RedVR?"
"No, which does mean that I already gave you a reputation on the ship, sorry." He didn't sound sorry about it.
"It fits with you not having to keep me restrained to get what you want. I will just have to deal with the fallout later. So how long before we visit a RedVR?"
Goliath almost missed his bite but he recovered so quickly I wasn't sure that was what I had seen. After he swallowed he spoke again, "You want me to stay with you?"
"It is one thing to say you will let me go but I doubt your group wants to set me free. Which means someone has to stay with me, since I belong to you, it would only make sense for you to be with me. Unless you would rather someone else watch me while I am plugged in. I would at least be more covered than I was when I first woke up."
Goliath sighed, "Not sure I would call that covered." I wouldn't call what was basically a sex machine, covered either but if that is what I had to do to check the net, so be it. "You are right, I will have to stay with you. Two days, until we are close enough to one that doesn't have too high a risk of exposure."
"There are RedVR all over the place, but I will take your word for it. Am I to be stuck here the whole time?"
"I brought you clothes that should fit, they are in the top of the foot locker, but please stay in here, nowhere else on the ship is safe for you. I did manage to find a couple of books. Ravid's girls had one."
"So he keeps slaves himself?"
"Not sure I would call them slaves, but he doesn't have a high opinion of women."
"Then he must be more than ready to believe I am using just sex to try and get what I want. I will have to be careful not to be alone with him."
"2-bit is about the only one on board I would willing leave you alone with, and that is mostly because I am never sure he knows what to do with anything that doesn't have a digital interface."
"Why is he an anti-spacer then?"
"Born at the bottom. It was hard for him to compete against tubers."
"He was discriminated against because he didn't have active inputs?"
Goliath snorted and finished his food, "Must be nice to be so sheltered. He was pegged to be exported because he didn't have actives when he told the porters no they framed him. He is the best I have ever seen at keeping the AIs from finding him online. Hope you like RedRV, She-u, because you are going to have to get around 2-bit to get anything really done."
"Well, would hate for life to be boring. So 2-bit will be monitoring us while we are out. I think I got it. I am guessing you have pressing work that will take you away for most of the day?"
