Chereads / Weak: Lady Andromeda / Chapter 6 - Settling In

Chapter 6 - Settling In

Lady Andromeda walked around and explored her new chambers. She was pleased with the room, and the furnishings. The walls were gray wood lined with silver trim. The walls were lined with brilliant tapestries. The only complaint Lady Andromeda could see about the walls was that too many of the tapestries were of someone sort of death. See made a note to ask for more cheerful art to be brought in. The floor was gray stone with large green carpets under the furniture. Lady Andromeda was not a fan of the color green so she would change the carpets as well. The furniture was gray wood framed with silver trim. They also had red cushions. Andromeda liked the red and would keep them. Lady Andromeda walked over to the door to the right of the fireplace. She opened the silver trimmed door and stepped into a beautiful bedchamber. There was a fireplace to the left with a set of comfortable black chairs and a round table in front. One the right hand wall, was a large golden four poster bed with shiny black bedding. The curtains that hung over the bed were of a deep red. The room was warm and somehow inviting. Lady Andromeda walked over to the window and looked out over the courtyard. The courtyard was full of people. Lady Andromeda could see that there was a lot of activity going on. She could see a few people sitting on the steps of the castle. She could see a few people walking down the path that led to the other side of the castle.

Lady Andromeda decided to make it a point to explore the courtyard the next day. She walked over to the door to the left of the fireplace. This led to a massive bathroom. Here she found the chamber pot in its own little cupboard. The middle of the floor had a large bathtub inset in the floor. The far wall was a large mirror. The mirror was a large oval with a gold frame. Lady Andromed turned and left the bathroom. She walked over to the door to the right of the fireplace. To Lady Andromeda's surprise it was a separate dressing room. There were shelves full of beautiful fabrics. She walked over to a shelf and could see the beautiful embroidery on the fabric. Lady Andromeda pulled out a fabric and held it as she ran her fingers over the intricate lines. Maid Corrine and Maid Maude just let the Lady explore without interruption. Lady Andromeda put the fabric back on the shelf and walked over to the door to her bedchamber.

She walked back through the Bedchamber doors to the rest of the chambers of the Lady of the House. "M'Lady, would you like to have something to eat or drink?" Maid Corrine inquired. "No, I am alright. I think that I should rest a bit before the evening meal." Lady Andromeda decided. Her maids nodded and took the Lady to her bedchamber. They helped her out of her gown until she was just in her chemise. She then climbed into bed. Maids Corrine and Mauve put the pillows around the lady to keep her stable while sleeping. She closed her eyes and melted into the silky soft sheets and comfy overstuffed bed. Lady Andromeda allowed herself to drift away. She had never laid on a more comfortable bed. Her father would never have wanted to 'waste' such money on her.

Lady Andromeda woke a few hours later. When she opened her eyes she didn't want to get up. She had never slept so well in her life. She had slept so soundly that she had no idea how much time had passed. Reluctantly, the lady sat up and looked around. PArt of her thought that she would have woken up back in her room in her father's house. She was happy to wake up here. Knowing that she was in a new life and would never be under her father's boot again. She smiled and started moving the pillows on her left side and slid to the side of the bed. She swung her legs over the side and let her bare feet land on the soft carpet below. She allowed her toes to scrunch in the fibers of the carpet. They felt so nice on her feet, like fluffy clouds. Lady Andromeda leaned over and rose from the edge of the bed.

She walked over the doors and to the sitting room. Her maids, who had been sitting on the couch waiting for her to wake, stood and went to help Lady Andromeda dress for the evening meal. When they were finished they returned to the sitting room. Lady Andromeda emerged in a simple, plain light purple gown with a square neckline that showed a small portion of cleavage. The bodice hugged her figure and the skirt flared out at her hips and swept the floor. She had a pair of simple, black, and silver slippers.

Maid Mauve called for the meal as Maid Corrine sat with Lady Andromeda on the couch. Maid Mauve joined the women with books for them to read while they waited. Lady Andromeda took the book and opened it. She got lost in the world of fairies and mermaids. She read without making a sound or moving. She was so lost in the book that she had not noticed that their meal had been brought and served. Maid Corrine lightly tapped her on the shoulder. Lady Andromeda gasped and dropped her book. "I am sorry, M'Lady, the evening meal has arrived." Maid Corrine announced. Lady Andromeda nodded and belt over to get her book off the floor. She handed the book to Maid Mauve, who replaced them on the shelf, and sat at the table. The table was set with; fresh baked bread, sugared almonds, turkey legs, pork pot pies, fried oranges, spiced wine, and other fresh fruits. It all looked and smelled delicious. Lady Andromeda looked at the feast, trying to decide where to start. Maid Corinne passed over the plate of fresh fruit, "Start light." she suggested. Lady Andromeda nodded and took some fruits. She took a bite of the apple and ate a bite of the pear. When she cleared the fruit she took some bread and some sugared almonds. Maid Corrine cut some meat off the turkey leg and placed it on Lady Andromeda's plate. The three ate in silence, enjoying the amazing food. It was better than Lord Sabri's cook.

When they were stuffed, the maids helped their Lady to the couch to rest before going back to bed. Lady Andromeda then sent Maid Corrine to thank the cooks for the wonderful food. She then asked Maid Mauve to go run a bath for her. Maid Corrine left to do so. Lady Andromeda lounged on the couch and lifted her legs up to rest on the armrest. She allowed her head to fall over the other armrest. She closed her eyes and relaxed. After a few minutes, she felt a hand on her shoulder. She opened her eyes and saw Maid Corinne smiling down at her. Lady Andromeda sat up and saw Maid Mauve waiting at the other end of the couch, "M'Lady, your bath is ready." she announced. Lady Andromeda nodded and stood up. She walked to the bathroom and waited for her maids to prepare her for the bath. Lady Andromeda slid in carefully and sank in the hot, bubbly water.
