The rest of the day went by quickly and it was the end of the school day. The students of class 3D gathered their things, chattering as they left the class one after the other.
Glenn slowly packed his things into his bag. He was in no rush to leave. The hallway would be crowded by now and he didn't want to be stared at again.
"Glenn..."
Glenn looked up when he heard the familiar voice. Miss Lauren stood at her table, arranging her things. She seemed to be in a hurry as she packed notes and papers into her bag.
"Are you going out?" Glenn asked walking up to the table.
Miss Lauren nodded "The school board called a meeting concerning the events that had happened recently. I won't be able to drive you back home today" she replied
Glenn thought for a moment. A lot of things have happened in the school recently. He was attacked in his house by unknown people and a kid practiced Blood drawing technic.
It'd be strange if the school bored weren't bothered, especially over the later.
"I'll take a cab to go pick up Mac" Glenn said
Miss Lauren gave him a warning look "Go straight home after getting Mac. I still haven't found those who attacked your house." She warned as she walked out of the classroom "Don't go wandering around yourself"
Glenn only returned to gathering his things when he couldn't her her steps anymore. He zipped up the bag and wore it behind his back.
After making sure all the lights in the classroom were turned off, the board was wiped and the air conditioners weren't on, Glenn walked out of the classroom, looking the door behind him.
"Need a ride?"
Glenn almost jumped out of his skin on hearing the unexpected voice. He turned to his right and saw Conner leaning against the wall, hands folded against his chest.
Glenn mentally rolled his eyes at himself. He had thought it was someone with I'll intensions but then again, the Zero would have notified him if it was.
Conner pushed away from the wall, stuffing his hands in his pockets as Glen place the keychain around his neck.
"What do you want?" Glenn asked, his face expressionless just like the person he spoke to.
Conner didn't seem affected by the somewhat cold reply he received compared to how Glenn spoke to their classmates.
"Miss Lauren won't be taking you home today. Do you want a ride?" he asked again
"Why? Still trying to pay for the swords?" Glenn asked as he walked past Conner "I told you already, id you can't accept them, just return them"
Glenn felt it before warm fingers warped around his hand, and Conner swiftly turned him around.
Glenn almost lost his footing but caught himself quickly and shot a glare at Conner, pulling his hand away from his hold.
"I'm not doing it to pay for the swords" Conner spoke before he could, his voice calm but face tense. "They are worth more than a single ride. I'm only offering to drive you because that's what any of our classmates could have done"
Glenn didn't known weather to be offended or find the situation funny. Conner wasn't offering him a ride because he wanted to be nice.
He is offering him a ride simply because that's what any of the others would have done if they found out he needed one.
Although the actions were the same, the reason for carrying them out couldn't be more different.
In the end Conner wasn't someone he could easily get along with. Yet he admired how blunt and straightforward he was with his words.
"So, do you want a ride or not?" Conner asked again
Glenn rolled his eyes. It's been a while since he meet this kind of character. Fine, since he is going to be like this, Glenn would stop holding back as well.
"I do. Just wish it is with anyone else but you" Glenn replied and turned around. He walked down the hall, another set of footsteps following softly behind him.
Glenn's fist tighten around his bag strap. It really tick him off, this character that is so similar to the real him.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The ride was quite and the black BMW slowly pulled into the driveway.
"I'll be right back" Glenn said as he got out of the car.
The school yard was empty as Glenn was used to however, Mac was no where in sight.
Glenn looked around. Normally, Mac would come crashing into his hands the moment he stepped out of Miss Lauren's car.
"Mac!" Glenn yelled
"You can't find your brother?" Conner asked walking up to him
"As you can see" Glenn all but snapped, sorry beginning to set in as he searched for Mac.
Glenn was about to go into the school when he suddenly say a figure under one of the trees in the yard. He slowly moved closer and saw it was a little boy sitting on the ground and rocking himself back and forth.
"Mac" Glenn called but didn't receive any reply.
Glenn and Conner jogged to the tree where Mac was sitting under.
"Mac" Glenn called again, knelling on the ground in front of Mac, and slowly lift the boy's head up.
Conner was quick shocked to see Mac with tears running down his eyes, a look of pure terror in his swollen eyes. Small sobs escape his lips ever so often making his small body tremble.
"Mac,..." Glenn immediately took out his handkerchief and began drying his little brother's face. "... you're okay. You're fine" he kept repeating in a calm voice.
Slowly, Mac calmed down, his crying stoping. He threw himself into Glenn's embrace, burying his face in Glenn's neck.
"Had a bad dream?" Glenn asked and Mac nodded "It's okay. Nothing of it is real"
Mac nodded again and moved away from Glenn's hold. He turned around to see the person behind him. Mac's eyes widened, shock written allover his face.
He moved swiftly to his feet, a sharp look in his wide eyes. "Why are you here?" he asked
Both Glenn and Conner frowned, taken apart by Mac's sudden movement and question
"He drove me here" Glenn replied, eyes moving from Mac to Conner and back again "Do you know him?"
Mac remained quite, a passive expression on his face. When they received no reply, Conner stepped forward to introduce himself.
"Hi, I'm Conner. I..."
"Stay away from my brother!"
Conner words were cut short by the loud yell that didn't sound like it came from the mouth of a child. He couldn't help but take a step back in shock.
Mac was about to say something else when a wave of dizziness suddenly hit him and he staggered backwards into Glenn's waiting hands and his world went black.
Glenn looked at the boy in his hand. He careful carried him bridal style and stood up before giving Conner a tight smile
"Ignore him" he said "Mac something mistake his dreams for reality"
Conner slowly nodded "I'll drive you to Miss Lauren's" he said. He looked at the sleeping Mac in his hands "Is he okay?"
Glenn nodded "Nothing you sound be concerned about" he replied and began walking to the car.
Unsure of what just happened, Conner followed to the car, rushing forward to help open the back door for Glenn to enter.
They engines soon came up and the car slowly reverse out of the driveway.
