Chapter 10 - Reid Family Secrets

Verity

All throughout the day the heat within my body has become extreme to the point where sweat is constantly rolling off of me but something kept gnawing at my stomach; hunger.

The hunger clung to me along with a sudden thud, the pressure increased every time I went near the attic, some kind of pressure in my skull and back that made me want to go upstairs. I never did, until I gave an exasperated growl and pull the stairs down that led to the attic.

I walk up the stairs slowly and make sure to grab every ladder rung, my heart picking up speed along with the pressure as I climb into the attic fully and look around. I see a yellow hue coming from inside a cardboard box, as if a light was somehow illuminating something.

I walk forwards and my heart instantly picks up speed, my fingers shake and my knees threaten to buckle from underneath me as I walk shakily forward.

I reach the cardboard box and reach inside fumbling with the old photos and junk paperwork my parents used to have. This used to be the family cabin, but years and years ago my parents refused to come back here and left Lockincester Falls.

I move everything out of the way until my hand knocks over an object resting on top of the glowy yellow-hued object and I pick it up to notice it was a medium-sized journal of some sort.

The sweat collects on my brow more heavily as my skin itches more and more, the urge to scratch my skin off becoming more and more apparent as the second tick by. The feeling of tiny little bugs crawling all over my skin made my whole body start to shake violently.

I walk back down the stairs shaking violently still and sit on the couch opening up the journal and I am instantly met with the words;

"Reid Family Book of Monsters "

I say the words out loud trying it from my tongue but the words didn't seem familiar as I am left with a question burning in my mind.

What is this?

I instantly latch my fingers and grip the sides of the journal and flip the page to see a drawing. A person with long hair, bright sharp white teeth and veins all over the face and the words; Vampire wrote underneath.

My eyebrows came together in confusion as I read the handwriting out loud under my breath.

"Norm Vampires~ Drink blood to survive, have no weird cravings, listens to one ancestor in each clan and have unnatural strength...What the hell?" I ask myself and notice the wolf had woken up again and was staring at me, but it seemed to be intently listening.

I clear my throat feeling it become lodged with an imaginative ball of spice as it burns and I start to cough and splutter but continue on reading the journal.

"Nomad Crawler Vampires~Said vampires crawl and have no leader, crawler vampires are seeming rabid as they cannot talk but only growl in their own tongue, kill on sight no exceptions."

I look up as I hear the wolf growling and I shoot down to the floor as I let out a sharp yell.

'You're a Reid...' The voice says in my head.

"What?" I ask but get no reply from the voice.

As soon as the pain came, it went and I am left with the shakes as I am left with hurting muscles. I get up off the floor with shaky legs and hesitant limbs.

The wolf goes to the door and paws at it whining. I get up as a wave of goosebumps flies across my arms and legs making me shake and shiver like in the fall. I open the backdoor and watch as the wolf darts out of my front door, taking its stroll as it does every night. I was always wary of wolves and scared as a child, but this wolf is very calm and almost understanding of me and what my goal is.

The wolf stops bounding in the light layer of snow around my big yard and turns its head to the side to glance back at me, its dark almost black eyes questioning me.

"It's too cold out here for me, the temperature is below zero and I get too cold too quick." I raised my voice so the wolf could hear.

The wolf almost seemed to nod his head, jutting it down slightly and picking its head back up as it resumed walking forwards.

I know I'm not crazy, the wolf seemed to understand me lately, the way its eyes would watch my every movement. The way it would tilt its head when it was confused. Everything about this wolf screamed pet.

'Who would be crazy enough to keep a wolf inside their house as a pet? ' I think to myself and then remember, oh yeah. Me.

The wolf wasn't a pet, but I was keeping it in my house until it was completely healed from whatever had happened to it.

"How long will you stay?" I ask the wolf as I hold open the door and it walks inside shaking off the layer of snow attached to it from flopping around.

I don't know...

A voice whispers out to me and the wolf stops in its tracks as I gasp.

"W-what?" I ask out peering around the room.

Did you hear me? The voice whispers around my head again and I find myself instinctively nodding my head.

I hear the wolf yip and whine, and I close the door whirling around to see him sitting on the floor, peering at me with curious eyes.

"I think I'm going crazy because I swear you just talked to me. You're the only other living thing around." I said in skepticism as I approach the wolf still sitting eerily still and calm.

You're not crazy, because that would mean I am as well

The wolf snorts and then lays down

"Wait, you're actually speak-"

Yes, I'm actually speaking to you, human

I let out a gasp as I scramble up off the floor

"That's crazy." I say.

"Says the girl communicating with a werewolf." The wolf lets out another snort, his eyes narrow in like it's laughing.

Werewolf?!
