Chapter 4 - Chapter Three: OMG! tech

Davy Kent

Omegatech is one of thee most successful IT companies in the world with the hottest CEO in the history of CEO's. Staffs had reported how nice and caring their CEO is, even when they made a mistake, he'd pardon them. They also talked about their alpine salaries and other profits from their jobs. Some...

"Can you turn that down please!" Millicent complained.

After finding out who the CEO was, she rushed down to her best friends place to seek advice on the next step to take.

"Sorry." Milena said turning off the audio she was listening to.

"This is weird. How come I've never heard of it before? Have you?"

"Me?, what.... No, I... Uh... Yes." Milena stammered. She bowed her head feeling ashamed.

"What?"

"I'm sorry 2.0, I just thought it would make you feel bad you know. Your ex is so freaking successful now, he's fine and happy without you. How would you feel if I had told you that?"

"I'd feel the same."

"That's a lie, you'd be crushed. He's the reason you're still single, you still think about him and I'm pretty sure he doesn't even remember you anymore. It's been three freaking years babe, you gotta move on."

Millicent sighed deeply before closing her eyes and falling on her friends shoulder. "What do I do now?"

"I don't think you need to think too much on that."

"Why?" she asked sitting up.

"Uhm hello!, you're Millicent and he's Davy. He wouldn't even look at the application letter twice before deleting it."

"Yeah that true, I have nothing to worry about."

"Exactly! Now what do you say about a girls night out?"

"Oh my gosh it's so what I need tight now!"

"Awesome!"

The girls went to get ready for their wild evening planned out. Rummaging through her clothes, she remembered what Tara had said earlier about her fashion sense dying. She decided to try some of Milena's clothes. "Can I wear one of your crazy wears tonight?"

"Woah woah woah girl, you're planning on going all out tonight, my clothes are.... You know how they are."

"Weird, crazy, exposing yeah I know. Just let me try them on, they might look good on me."

"I'm loving this new you even more."

She searched through Milena's wardrobe and as expected, everything was too wild for her but she wanted to try something new. After several options, she decided on a pink crop top and a black leather short with a black wedge, and left her shoulder length blue hair loose.

"Oh my fucking goodness!, Someone get a fire extinguisher cause this babe is on fire! mind blown!" She said repeating the action with her hands. "You look like a freaking goddess right now, who would believe this is from my wardrobe."

Millicent smiled sheepishly, "why thank you."

"Now I need to have something pink on me." Milena changed into a pink and black Mimi dress that exposed her curves and she stood in front of the mirror admiring herself, "damn I'm too sexy for a twenty-nine years old."

They both laughed. They exited Milena's apartment together but on their way out, Milena's phone rang. "Who is it?"

She sighed and cut the call, "it's mai Lee."

"What's wrong? You guys couldn't settle things?"

"Nah, she wasn't even loyal from the start, always ditching me on my important days. On my way from her place I met this cute guy, like he was really cute and he seemed really interested in me. Long story short, we're hanging out this weekend."

"What? Lena are you serious?"

"Yeah I mean, you'll be at the hospital so I felt I could spend the evening with him but I promise I won't sleep there okay."

Millicent scoffed, "you'll never change."

"I know right!" she replied giggling.

They chattered off enjoying the calm evening sky.

MEANWHILE AT THE OMEGATECH........

"... And the Saheeds have decided to support your new project, it's thirty million dollars." A young suited man reported.

"That's okay. Anything else?" Davy replied.

"No sir."

"Thank you Zack."

Apart from being the manager of OMGTECH, Zack was like Davy's best friend and most trusted employee.

"Yes sir.... Aren't you going home now sir?"

"No, i think I'll have to work night today. I have some business to sort out, I'll leave later if I finish on time." Davy replied flipping through the heap of files in front of him.

"Is there any way I can be of assistance sir?"

Davy nodded negatively, "no Zack, it's fine. You've helped enough for today, go home and rest."

"Are you sure sir? I don't mind working night today."

Davy smiled nodding and shoed Zack off.

Zack turned to walk away from Davy's office but stopped midway and turned back, "oh sir, I think you should check out the applicants since you need a secretary as soon as possible. A lot of people turned up, please check it out sir and tell me when to place the interview."

"Oh, thank you Zack. I will get back to you on that."

Zack bowed slightly before finally exiting the room. Davy turned on his laptop and placed it on his desk, he scrolled through the list of applicants but a particular name caught his eyes. "Millicent Owen?" He clicked on the name to check her profile picture and he thought his eyes were hoaxing him. He enlarged the picture to take a closer look at the picture, "my eyes aren't deceiving me!" he scoffed.

He thought to himself, "so she's jobless, has she been like that for the past three years? I don't really care anyway."  He immediately moved her CV to the trash.

He continued scrolling through the other list of applicants but unfortunately, none of them had the qualifications he needed. He felt irritated by the fact that only Millicent had the adequacy he seeked. He went to the files in his trash and brought out her application latter, he bit his finger hard at the decision he was about to take...

"Hey smile for the camera 2.0."

Millicent posed sticking out her tongue with one hand on her hip and Milena took the picture. "Another one babe."

Millicent changed her pose but instead of taking a picture, Milena screamed, "oh my god!!"

"What's wrong?"

"Okay--Uh so--okay..... So I was wrong, you do have to worry."

"Oh come on what's wrong?!"

Milena took a few quick steps to Millicent and stopped beside her, she showed the notification that popped up to her and Millicent felt weak in the knees, "holy crap!"

"Okay calm down girl, calm down. It says hello miss Owen, your application was received and it's been accepted. You are to come for an official interview tomorrow at 8am sharp, tardiness will not be accepted. It is advised you dress formal, black and or white preferably, I repeat tardiness will not be accepted' I know we heard you the first time. ' if late, your interview will be automatically abrogated. We hope to see you tomorrow and look forward to working with you. Oh my freaking god what are we gonna do?!"

"I won't go, I can't."

"I feel the same but again, opportunities like this comes once in a life time. I'm pretty sure Davy would pay some freaking huge salary to his secretary and you need the money."

Millicent fell silent, she knew Milena was right but she didn't find it comfortable working under her ex boyfriend. "I don't know if I can do it even though there's a very solid reason why I need to. Doctor Naomi told me about some therapy mom needs and it's quite expensive, I'll have to spend all my savings and it still wouldn't be enough. Oh god!"

Milena rubbed her friends back slightly trying to comfort her, it was a tough decision to take but she knew what she had to do. "Since he accepted me, that means he believes he won't feel uncomfortable having me as a secretary and me declining will only be childish and he would believe I haven't gotten over him."

"True true, even though you haven't."

"I have!"

"So not true but that's not the point. The point is, if you work for him for five months, you'd have raised more than enough for your Mom's surgery then after the surgery you can quit."

"Right, that's true."

"Yeah, do this for your Mom okay?"

"I will."

"I got your back girl."

"Thanks Lena."

"Come here." Milena pulled her into a tight embrace and Millicent hugged her back. They stood silently enjoying the warmth their body provided them with when suddenly, Millicent's phone rang and the long embrace was cut short.

"What in the world am I looking at? He still has my number!"

"What? Who?"

She turned her phone for Milena to see, "what in the world! Mine! Wait who's mine?"

Millicent rolled her eyes, "seriously?, it's Davy!"

"What in the world! You never changed his name from mine talk more of delete his number?"

"That's not the point, why is he calling?"

"I dunno, I don't live inside his head remember. Answer it."

"ohh...." she fidgeted and he hung up. "Should I call him back?"

"Oh heck no! Let's see if he'll call--" the phone rang again and she answered it for Millicent putting it on speaker, "well speak!"

"Hello?"

"Uh," Milena shoved her friend, whispering 'speak' to her but in a firm tone.

"Millicent?"

"Hey."

"It's Davy"

"I know."

"You know?"

"No! I mean, you still have my contact?"

"Of course not!, it was in your resume remember?"

"Right! Uh what's up?"

"Can we talk?... Tonight? I need to see you, there's something I must say to you."

She paused waiting for Milena's advice and Milena nodded, "okay fine, where would you like to meet?"

"Anywhere that is convenient with you. Text me the address okay?"

"Okay."

She hung up and texted the address of a near by cafe to him. "I'll see you later girl."

She immediately went home to change into something more presentable and less exposing. She hailed a taxi to get there faster, she started to panic and was having second thoughts. Sweat streaks rolled down her face and she felt nervous about her decision but it was too late to turn back.

Arriving at the cafe, she took several deep breathes trying to calm herself before going in.

There he was, sitting at a table at the left corner of the room, dressed in a dark blue suit obviously just leaving work, his formerly blonde hair now black was a neat crew cut and his pink lips sipped from the cup of hot tea in his hand.

She froze at the entrance doubting her decision, just the sight of him resurfaced old memories and she blinked back the tears in her eyes trying to fight it. He checked his wristwatch and turned around only to notice her standing at the entrance staring at him.

As their eyes met, she felt shivers down her spine and her feet became to weak to carry the weight of her body. She felt her heart skip a beat as their eyes locked, she wished in her mind, "if only the ground could open up and swallow me whole right now."
