Chapter 5 - Chapter Four: The spoilt brat with no regard for women

She summoned her courage and walked up to him. Raising her head high and walking confidently in her high heels, she walked towards him and sat at the chair opposite him. They stared at each other in awkward silence for a few moments before Davy cleared his throat loudly "Hello Millicent."

"Hello Dave."

He smirked and sipped from his cup, "I believe it's Mr Kent to you."

"Excuse me?"

"You see that's why I called you here," he pointed at the cup of coffee in front of her, "I ordered for you, I hope you don't mind."

She stared at the cup of black coffee smoking in front of her. She held the handle to bend it towards her face, "black coffee."

"I remember how obsessed you were with these things, I don't know if your style is still the same though."

He remembers, she thought to herself. She felt her lips curving into a smile but she immediately frowned, no I can't be so gullible. "Thanks but I don't take it anymore." she lied.

"Oh... Your loss though, their coffee is to die for here."

She arched her brow staring into his cup. "How do you know? You're drinking tea."

He froze for a second before replying, "I'm just saying, the tea is great so I'm pretty sure their coffee will be too."

She pushed the coffee away from her and folded her arms, "you certainly didn't ask to meet up just to talk about coffee."

"True. Why did you apply to work as my secretary?"

"Why did you accept it?"

"Don't try to play smart."

She looked away then back at him, "I didn't know it was your company when I applied."

"And when you found out?"

"It was too late."

"Are you planning on declining it?"

"No."

"Why not? Wait let me guess. You plan on seducing me back into being yours because I'm a successful business man and you never got over me since our break up."

She scoffed. "Are you kidding me? I don't even remember you anymore!"

"Oh really? Is that why you never deleted my number? Let me guess, it's still saved as mine with a heart emoji on your phone?"

"That's not true!"

"We dated for seven years Millicent, you should know by now that I can tell when you're lying."

Unable to come up with an excuse, she remained silent and he smiled. He sat up right and crossed his arms at his chest. "Now miss Owen, I want you to know that I only accepted you because of your qualifications and nothing more. I don't have any longing feelings for you cause I barely even remember your existence."

"But you remember that black coffee was my favourite."

"I said barely. Now if you decide to work with me, you must never refer to me by my first name, you shall call me Mr Kent or sir, I will not appreciate you speaking informally to me. You need to remember that we broke up and we are not even friends anymore, the only relationship between us will be a CEO to his secretary relationship."

She bit hard on her lips trying to hold back the curses in her mouth, he's so unbelievable! She thought to herself.

"Don't expect me to pay you extra because of our past history together, you were never the one for me and it was obvious that we were fooling each other. Our past relationship should be a secret from the other staffs, it should never be known that I once dated the likes of you."

She slammed the table loudly and yelled, "Davy!" Anger overwhelmed her and she felt her insides boiling, "why are you like this?!" people turned around staring in their direction and he smiled awkwardly.

He leaned closer and whispered to her, "lower your voice woman. How am I like?"

"I can't believe you, after everything we had, everything we did together. You're so cold and heartless! How did you become like this?" she said in sober tone trying to fight back her tears.

"I became like this after growing up and so should you. What we had, what we did, it was all child's play and even though it took me seven years to realise it, we were never meant to be."

"Dave."

"I don't miss you, I don't think we were meant to be and you are not my missing piece. I don't regret the day we broke up, fact it was a blessing to me, it was like I finally got rid of that stain on me."

She didn't believe her ears, the sweet and loving Dave and grown to become a heartless demon and his every words crushed her. The tears she had tried so hard to hide finally escaped her eyes and he removed a handkerchief from his pocket, " I knew this would happen so I came prepared, haha." he laughed serenely and tossed the handkerchief at her. "Listen, you made me sick, I regret every thing we did together and I'm finally free from that bondage and you expect me to feel sad it ended?"

"I—"

"Listen, I didn't come here to talk about our past together okay,  it's up to you to decide if you still want to be my secretary. I just called you here to clear any misunderstanding." He stood up and finished his tea, "See you tomorrow hopefully. Oh and I don't appreciate the blue hair so please do something about it."

Between the twinkle of an eye, he was gone. Millicent just sat at the table pondering on what just happened. Her mascara was washed away by the waterfall that poured down her face. She took the handkerchief in her hands and it brought back an old memory, the day they'd met.

Back in highschool, Millicent had no friends and it made her feel bad, she was bullied for being ugly and fat making her the laughing stock of the class. One day after the other kids drained her in orange juice, she sat on the floor at a corner of the cafeteria and sobbed loudly. She noticed black shoes standing in front of her and she looked up, it was Davy. He handed her a white handkerchief and told her to stop crying that he'd be her friend.

Since that day, they were inseparable and Davy would stand up for her if the other kids tried to bully her.

It was really impossible for Millicent to believe how cold he had behaved to her.

Time flew fast and Millicent couldn't stop crying, she felt her heart sink and the only thing that was audible to her was the sound of her crying. His words haunted her ears and she wished she could just forget everything. Milena had called severally but she didn't answer, she couldn't.

She placed her head on the table and sobbed like a baby, she cried until her tear glands went dry and she couldn't cry anymore.

"Excuse me miss?"  A feminine voice called out to her.

She sniffed and raised her head up, "hi."

"I'm sorry to disturb but we're about closing."

"Oh right of course." she took out money from her purse to pay for her drink but the lady refused the money, "oh it's fine, your date already took care of it."

"My date? Oh!" she smiled and nodded. She packed her things and left the cafe.

Walking down the silent road under the dark night sky designed with twinkling stars, Millicent had gone to a bar and drank her heart and soul out. She was unable to walk up right, several times she would trip and almost fall face flat on the ground. She staggered but caught on to a street light for support.

Trying to cross the road in a drunken state, Millicent almost collided with a car but thankfully the driver hit the brakes just in time. "Can't you see where you're going miss?!" he annoyingly screamed as he got out of his car.

She turned to look at him but all she got was a blurry vision of a man.

"What? It's you again!"

It happened to be the same man that almost hit her the first time. "Are you doing this on purpose? Are you stalking me? Do you want more money?"

"Hey!!!" she yelled, "Shut up!"

He scoffed placing his hands on his hip, "this is unbelievable, did you change your hair color believing I won't recognize a miscreant like you?"

She stared at him silently, staggering before she finally fell to the ground and started to cry again.

"I won't fall for it this time. Get off the road!"

She laid on her back looking up at the stars. "My life sucks! I want to die!" she yelled loudly and people stared at her whispering one thing or the other to each other.

He sighed deeply and went to her, "geez you're so drunk". He carried her off the ground and took her to his car, laying her down at the back seat, she was fast asleep and he drove off.

Arriving at his place, he carried her to his bedroom and laid her down to sleep.

The next morning, Millicent woke up around after seven in the morning with the worst headache in the history of headaches, "mmm," she groaned rubbing her temple. "Lena I need some drugs for my hangover."

She opened her eyes slowly only for to realise she wasn't at Lena's place, neither was it her house. She gasped immediately sitting up right "Where am I?!" she asked herself.

She heard someone getting out of the shower and she immediately fell back to bed pretending she was asleep.

"I know you're awake woman." he said.

She opened her eyes and sat up. She turned to look at him and she found herself drooling, his muscular body was shirtless and only a small towel was wrapped around his waist. He brushed through his wet brown hair with his hands and his deep blue eyes locked gaze with hers and she choked.

He just chucked, "Take these, it'll help suppress the headache."

He threw a bottle of herbal drink to her and she caught it but didn't drink it.

"My name is Zack, Zack Griffo."

"Millicent Owen."

"Good." he said crossing his arms, "as much as I'd love to hear your sad story, I have to get to work so please get out now."

"Excuse me?" she scoffed "I was right, you definitely have no regard for women."

"I don't care what a miscreant like you thinks about me," he replied turning his back at her.

"How could you just tell me to leave like that?"

"What, you want money again? Or you want to have a nice time with me?, I'd love to see what's under that beautiful floral dress." He said this time facing her with a wicked grin on his face.

"You're a pervert!" she replied hiding her body under the blanket.

He laughed, "You think I would really stoop so low to sleep with the likes of you that creates scenes just to beg for money?"

She scoffed and her face turned red with anger, "why did you bring me here anyway, what did you do to me?"

"Just leave me alone mosquito!. If you don't get out now, I'll call the cops on you."

"What? You brought me here!"

"That's it," he took out his phone and dialed out a number, "hello good morning, yes I'd like to report a criminal to you."

"I'm gone!" she yelled out packing her things and running out of the room.

"He's such an asshole."

She took out her phone and checked the time, "seven thirty-two, shit my interview!"

She started running to make sure she was there in time. At seven fifty-nine, she was there and was panting loudly like she was about to collapse. "I'm here..... For my interview."

A familiar face walked towards her and she tried to compose herself.

"Leave." Davy said coldly.

"What?"

"You heard me. Leave."

"But —but I can explain."

"I don't want to hear it. Get out now."

She stared at him silently, flaming inside and wishing she could punch him hard in the face but she could do nothing.
