Chapter 1 - Carter's morning routine

'Morning has come; it's time to get up', Carter thought as he opened his eyes to find darkness instead of light. He heard his alarm ringing and went to turn it off. The alarm rang the same at 7 a.m. on his bedside table. Every day has been the same for him.

Carter gets up from his bed and stands still for a while as his brain begins to map out the layout of his bedroom. His closet would be in front of him, and the door would be a few meters away from him, towards the south. He felt the smooth surface of the alarm clock and shut it off.

"Carter, buddy, it's time to get up! "There's some breakfast for you on the table," a husky voice called out from the other side.

"I'll be right there!" Carter called back.

'Time to start the day and end it the same as always' Carter muttered in his head.

Carter opens the door and walked towards the kitchen. The delicious smell of scrambled eggs and tea drifted across his nose like a mesmerizing perfume. There, he heard footsteps and some rustling. He heard the creaking sounds of cupboards opening and closing. Carter then assumed he found the dining chair because it felt hard and smooth and the height was up to his stomach. But before he could take a seat, his brother spoke.

"I'm off to work, right? Now, don't go roaming outside," Joey, Carter's brother, warned.

"I won't; besides, I can't see anything anyway," Carter replied as he pulls out a chair from the dining table and sits on it. The chair felt hard but it was comfortable to him nonetheless.

"Aw, don't say that, you're making me feel guilty. I'll take you somewhere tonight, I promise," Joey said.

"You're not going to hang out with Mary or something?" Carter inquires.

"Nope! It'll be just the two of us brothers. Alright, I gotta go now, I'll be late if I stay any longer. See you later,", Joey said.

Carter heard keys being jingled, stumbling footsteps, and then the creaking sound of the front door being opened and closed. He shook his head lightly and smiled.

'Bet that blockhead would break that promise with an excuse. But he already got me excited, so I'll trust him' Carter thought to himself and then hummed in delight after taking a bite of his breakfast.

Oh, and quite a night it would be.
