Chapter 11 - Fish Attack-2

The sight of dozens of fierce fish emerging from the deep ocean and dying miserably from the attacks of the Blacky bird, staining the seawater with a bloody red color. And my sister headed right into that bloody water, surrounded by many fish and in danger of becoming a victim of Blacky's crossfire.

I tried to stop her by force and pleading, but nothing worked.

As she dashed towards the sea, I wanted to follow her, but my instinct warned me of danger, and my legs trembled, and fear accumulated in my heart screamed out to give up—give up on my sister.

But seeing my sister plunging into the bloody water, panic overtook my fear, and all I wanted at that moment was to save my sister. Taking a deep breath, I screamed out of my lungs and dashed in her direction.

My body responded to the circumstances as I conquered my trepidation and with courage, my little body mustered the speed, even incomprehensible to adult me in my former life.

I quickly dove into the bloody water and caught up with my twin sister as she ran in the direction of the swarm of fish.

With a firm grip, I held her hand, blocking her path of advance.

As I looked around, a shoal of fish, maybe in their hundreds, jumped towards us, getting agitated and treating us like a piece of meat-chunk. And there were more fish inside the water, potentially a few thousand.

The Blacky bird, seeing us enter the dangerous water, roared out loud, his yellow eye emanating panic, dashing toward our direction, but I knew it was too late, too late, as many fish were right on our tail.

My heart was throbbing, and blood circulated in my mind, making my thinking process unparalleled.

How can I survive this situation? Is there a way?

YES!

A cruel but calculative, what if I diverted the attention of fishes to something? Giving me a chance to escape, something like my sister...

I smashed myself in the face, getting rid of a few teeth in the process, removing these repellent thoughts of sacrificing my sister.

There is no way that I would act in such a manner. I would rather die than let my sister suffer. All I can do now is to protect her by becoming her meat shield. I can only hope that seeing my body shredded into pieces, she'll get scared and flee using her genotype. Or fish slowly feast on me, allowing Blacky an opportunity to save her.

I leaped on, rushing forward into the swarms of fish and bloody water.

Then, is this the end?

YES!

A befitting one indeed, dying by the evolved fishes, the result of my own method of evolution.

This evolution has taken many lives, my previous one and this one too... it was a mistake all along.

I closed my eyes, bracing myself for the agony of being ripped apart into little bits by numerous fish. However, my body was suddenly engulfed with a piercing chill rather than agony, and as soon as I felt the shift, my heartbeat quickened, and I opened my eyes.

The surrounding water started to freeze, creating an ice barrier, blocking the shoal of fish and protecting us from being devoured. With a single glance, I knew this was my sister's second genotype. She can freeze anything.

As I glanced towards my sister, she caught up to me, her eyes red with tears rolling down them, her face one of fear, her hands and legs trembling. She tugged at my arm as she gestured for me to run quickly.

So your survival instinct finally kicked in? Maybe it's because you got a close-up look at this fish's horror.

Sigh!

I can't blame you. You are just a child; you are already amazing for your age. It's natural that you won't understand a few things.

Unfortunately, I think it's too late for me. We should count ourselves lucky, even if just one of us survived. With a force, I pushed her away from me. But she, by utilizing her wind genotype, neutralizes my attack. She then spoke the words "B-Bra-brother, run" in a trembling voice.

"Freya, run away," I snapped at her, trying to scare her to go away to a safe location. But she stood still, with a quivering body, tears rolling down, terror evident on her countenance yet looking right in my eyes, reluctant to leave me behind.

Seeing her face full of terror yet deep resolve to not leave me behind, I felt genuine despair more than ever before.

Shit!

Why Freya, You little stubborn idiot, why are you not running? All you have done since you started to use your two feet is jump and run. Then why now?

Please grant your foolish brother's last wish; please live...

Crack~ Crack~ Crack~

The frozen ice barrier created by Freya's second genotype that was guarding us against fish shattered as a shoal of fish bombarded it from all angles, and with a broken ice barrier, there was nothing left to defend us.

Blacky, who was still a few feet away, was heading straight toward us as he used the wind current to slice all the fish that were jumping at us, but he was helpless to protect us from the danger underwater.

Sister? I glanced at her sweet face, covered with panic and eyes full of tears, and seeing her still not running, I drowned in despair.

My legs became soggy like noodles, my heart roared in my eardrums, deep despair covered my countenance, despair of being unable to save my dear sister.

Then, with a sharp clinging sound like metal collusion, followed by the excruciating pain, blood splashed, dyeing the bloody water even redder. A fish chewed on my thigh meat, offering me unbearable anguish.

My visibility faded as the near-death experience drew me almost blind, and my life flashed through my mind.

As Austin, I was incapable of protecting my parents from pandemics, witnessing them dying in my very own arms, yet I was powerless to intervene in any way.

And to atone for my failure to protect my family, I worked all my remaining life to create a super-society of illness-immune humanity.

But that inherently cost me my life and the pain of eternal loneliness and suffering...

My family in my second life saved me from my plight, gave me the name Olorun, and filled my emptiness with love and happiness.

Yet today, as if history is repeating itself, it is driving my family down a path of inevitable death. My family, my sister.

And a sheer thought of fish evolved because of the evolutionary method discovered by me, which is now about to harm my sister...

Am I a bad omen?

Tears rolled down from my eyes as they become swollen, and the pain increased every second as the fish chewed on my thigh meat. Other fish were just inches behind, and I gave up all hope and resistance...
