On the day before Princess Emerald's seventh birthday, everyone was busy preparing for the big day. King Garnet arranged the flowers and weeds that he personally picked from the forest and from the kingdom's garden. He wanted his daughter's bouquet to be very special. Queen Jade happily prepared sumptuous viands and delicious desserts--fried chicken, chopsuey, lumpia, creme brulee, halo-halo, and birthday cake-- that the princess loves. Although they have maids, the king and queen wanted to add their personal touch to the celebration so they just asked that the maids help with the decorations.
Then came Emerald's birthday. It was sunny, but after she blew her birthday candle, the skies roared with loud thunder and lightning flashed ten times in a minute. Then, it seemed as if the god of the sea, Poseidon, released his anger that along with the heavy downpour of rain, there came a tsunami.
Poseidon spoke through the tsunami, "I am lonely and I want a child with me in the seas. I will make her into a lovely mermaid."
The tsunami became stronger, but it did not harm anybody. Still, its sheer force caught the attention of all the households.
Miraculously, the sister fish of Princess Emerald became ginormous, breaking its aquarium, and Emerald was in a daze. Suddenly, the fish spoke, "Hop onto my back. Let's ride the waves, sister!" Frightened yet filled with excitement, Emerald straddled the fish and they went to the sea. She felt that riding waves is what she was born to do.
Next thing she realized, her feet became a mermaid's tail and its green scales glistened. She lost her balance and found herself swimming with her sister fish.
Poseidon spoke, "Welcome to your new abode, Emerald. From now on, you will be the daughter of the sea and will live with us and your sister fish."
Emerald was dumbfounded upon hearing Poseidon's words and seeing her mermaid's tale. She forcefully shook her head and let out a loud shriek, "Nooooooo..."
