He came after her with speed and she moved away. Emily sped to where they were and he went after his mom instead. His fangs sank into her neck and she screamed in pain. Beth eyes glowed grey with silver outlines and she threw him across the forest
"What are you going to do to him?" Emily asked her niece
"It doesn't matter. You should go now, before he comes back. The last thing we need is him tracking your blood scent because he wouldn't stop till he kills you"
"How are you going to stop him then?!"
"Leave that to me. I would just fight him till he's too tired to fight anymore. I can try to compel him back to his human side but I don't know how long that would last. His wolf side is already taking over without his permission. You kept it locked in for too long and when we are back, you are going to explain why you did this to him"
"I am not leaving you"
"For once aunt Em, try to make my job easier!"
"I an not leaving him with you. One of you would kill the other"
"It is almost impossible to kill me and well, I'll try not to kill him but you have to go home now"
They heard him growl loudly. She grabbed her aunt and sped off. She dropped her at the door and looked into her eyes.
"You would go inside and sleep until you hear my voice then you would wake up and then we would talk about this"
She said, compelling her to obey. Tears rolled from Emily's eyes but Beth knew she had no option. If she didn't do that, she was going to get herself and everybody she loved killed. That was the only way to protect her from all this. She moved away from her and watched her go inside. Brie was home, she probably called Dan already and he was probably on his way home. Emily went in and dropped on the couch
"Mom?!" Brie called as she moved closer to her
"She is asleep. She wouldn't reply you until I get back. Take care of her till I get back"
"What did you fucking do to her?"
"I compelled her and of you don't want me to do the same to you just calm the hell down and do what I say. I still have your brother to take care off and nobody can help out here except me so don't fucking question me and just listen to me. Pay attention to everything I say because very soon, your life would depend on it"
"What do you mean my life would depend on it? I don't fucking trust you! Ever since you cane here, crazy things have been happening to us. Things have not been the same since you came here. You're ruining my family! You're tearing us apart. You should not have come here"
Beth looked at her. She turned to leave
"Beth, wait. I'd didn't mean any of it. Beth!"
She gave no reply. She sped off and didn't look back. She went back to the forest. She met him there and she stopped. She already had tears in her eyes. She knew she shouldn't fight with emotions but she didn't care. She went after him and he came after her. She knew she was going to kill him if she wasn't careful but she didn't care. She kept fighting till she snapped his neck. She stopped. She felt his heart. He was still alive. He was probably going to wake up in a few hours time. She was glad she beat him to it but it wasn't pain free. She looked down at her stomach. A piece of wood stood in it. She could feel her life draining from her body. She grabbed Carl and sped home. She opened the door to meet the rest there. Dan was home already.
"Aunt Emily"
She said and her aunt woke up. Dan collected Carl and carried him to his room. Bethany dropped unconscious. Her aunt stood up and ran to her. She removed the piece of wood which seemed too large to be there. She pressed her hand against the wound. She tried to stop the bleeding
"Brie! Don't just stand there. Get me some bandages and a sterilizer"
"Are you sure we shouldn't call an ambulance or something?" Dan suggested
"And what do you want to tell them when she starts to heal rapidly? Or how the hell she even got into an accident under our watch?" it would make no sense to anybody. I can take care of her"
"How? You don't even have a degree in nursing. You can't possibly stich her up!"
"I can't. I don't need to. She would heal up on her own and the wound would close very soon. I just have to keep her alive so stop telling me what I can and can't do!"
She said right back at him. She sighed. She was stressed and she performed poorly under pressure. Brie came with the bandage and she gave it to her
"Get me a pillow"
Dan brought it and he gave it to her
"Lift her head slowly"
He did and she out the pillow under it. It took a while but she managed to wrap the bandage around her waist. She sighed. She took a step back
"I guess we can prepare dinner now and maybe talk about it"
She said as she got up from where she was kneeling
"Mom, what happened?"
They all turned to see Carl on the stairs. He had tears in his eyes.
"Baby, it is not your fault"
"Mom, where's Beth? What did I do to her. Where is she?"
"She…."
He ran to her room and stormed in. He saw her. He removed the duvet and saw her lying there. He touched her. She was cold, almost dead. She had lost so much blood that her busy couldn't generate the heat it needed to stay warm. His family ran in after him. He sat beside her and held her hand
"I did this to her, didn't I? I remember everything clearly. I did this to her"
"You were not yourself"
"Exactly mom, I wasn't. What was I? She said I was a wolf when she first got here but I didn't believe her and now this? Why am I transforming now?"
"I would explain over dinner. She needs to rest and recover"
His mom said as she picked up the duvet and covered her with it again. She held his hand and she led then out. She made dinner and they say at the table. It was way more silent than usual. His mom sighed. This was it. She was going to have to tell them their dirty secret
*****
She gasped back to life. She stood up and winced in pain. She touched her side. She lifted her shirt and saw the bandage. She was tired but she was equally hungry and she could smell something coming from the kitchen, maybe dinner. She got up from her bed, supporting herself with the walls, she found her way down to the dining room. She entered the dining room and held the chair for support
"Beth! What the hell? Why are you up?" Her aunt yelled at her
"You are asking why she is up? I'm wondering how the hell she is up. She is literarily supposed to be dead" Brie said
"Yeah, that is what you would have wanted isn't it?" Beth said right back at her. "That is not why I'm down here. I need a perfect explanation to what happened to Carl and I'm here for dinner. All that fighting drained all of my energy"
She said as she pulled a chair out to sit on it. She winced in pain. She touched her side and found out she was bleeding again. She looked at it
"Beth.." Carl said
"Don't worry about it. The bandage would hold long enough"
She said as she sat down. It was obvious to everybody that she was in intense pain but she had to know the truth
"I know you all have questions and I'm going to probably answer all of it tonight. When Carl was born, he was born with the wolf gene. He wasn't supposed to have that gene. I thought if I didn't transform for a while, it would keep my wolf gene idle but apparently, it didn't. Carl took the gene and it was very obvious right from the time he was born. I couldn't have him running about with super speed and letting out our big secret so we got a serum. We gave it to him when he was six and he stopped manifesting his wolf part. When he was eighteen, he didn't transform which was good news to us because it meant he was safe. We thought the effect of the serum was permanent"
"But it's not" Beth said
"We were going to tell you until Carson died and we decided it was best that you don't know to much information got Carson killed. I wasn't going to let Cyrus take another kid from me again. He took Carson because he found out that he was a wolf. He found out that he was from my lineage so he ended him and he would have done the same thing to you too. I can't let that happen to any of you"
"So you decided that it was best for me to be human?"
"Your mom and I decided that" Dan added
"It wasn't your decision to make! You had no right to do that!"
Carl screamed at them and he stood up. He grabbed his jacket
"Where are you going?"
"Anywhere, just not here!"
He said as he went out into the dark
"How did you know he wasn't human?" Emily asked Beth
"I don't know. I just knew he wasn't human just like I knew Brie wasn't a wolf"
"It was almost impossible to know"
"Maybe it wasn't. You just had to look hard enough. You shouldn't have kept it from him. It is a full moon tomorrow. It is going to be his choice to take that serum again or to transform. You can't make that decision for him anymore"
Beth said and she took the turkey lap from her plate and ate it. She got up and grabbed her jacket from the jacket rail
"Where are you going?" Her aunt asked
"If I don't go after him, who will?"
Her aunt sighed and she nodded her head. Beth went to Carl's room and grabbed his sweatshirt. She sniffed it and her eyes glowed. She knew he could be anywhere but she was going to track his scent. She found him in an idle spot. It faced the ocean. It looked peaceful enough
"Nice view"
She said as she got to him. She walked to where he was
"You should not be here"
She sat beside him and winced in pain. Damn, she should really stop moving about
"Why shouldn't I?"
"You are not safe around me. I did that to you. You should leave before it happens again. I can't control what happens"
"I am not scared of you Carl, I've never been and I never will be"
She looked at him and he looked at her. She saw that tears were rolling down his face. He was too hurt.
"I am so sorry Bethany. I really am. I didn't think I would ever hurt you but I did and I can't make up for that because I don't know how to"
"I would heal. It's just going to take a while because you stabbed me in my human form so the healing process is slower. Hopefully, when the moon is full tomorrow, I would heal up faster than now and I would be fine before the sun comes back up"
