Chapter 9 - CHAPTER NINE

Brielle sat on her bed. She didn't know how to make up for what she had done to her, what she said to her. She wish she could take everything back but she couldn't. She dropped onto her bed. She picked up her phone and pressed the power button. The screen of her phone came alive and she saw her wallpaper. It was her, kissing the cheek of Bethany. Over time, she and Beth have become extremely close and she could call Beth her best friend but she knew that Beth only saw one person as her best friend and that was someone named Diane.

She thought of her, talked about her, stalked her, and loved her even though Diane didn't know that she still existed. She was always jealous of the fact that Diane lived in Beth's head for free but she was here, working and fighting for her attention. She knew that when it was time for Beth to go back, she would and she was going to lose her for good. She didn't want that and she had been holding all these emotions in without telling anybody, not even Bethany. She and Beth grew close over time and she told her everything that happened to her but she never reciprocated the energy. She kept her life a secret from everybody except Carl.

At a point, she thought Beth and Carl were dating. She thought they were in a relationship but she was wrong but she knew Carl did love her more than a younger sister. Carl loved her more than just blood. His love for her was deeper than all that. He wasn't going to lie about that anymore. Brie knew her brother wanted Beth for himself and she was going to talk to him about it very soon but right now, she felt it wasn't the perfect time for her too. With everything going on, she just wanted to be there for him. She decided to go to his room and she did. She got there and knocked lightly. He gave no reply. She knocked again

"Carl, I know you're in there. I just want to check up on you. I want to know how you're doing"

She heard no reply but she did hear a growl. She opened the door and saw him in front of the door. His eyes were blood red and his fangs were out. She screamed and ran but he was quick and he caught up with her

Emily sat on her bed wondering if she had made a mistake while trying to protect her first son. She had previously decided that she was going to tell him when he turned eighteen but when she changed her mind. She figured that he was living a perfect life as a human so why should she ruin that with the news that he was a werewolf? He had a girlfriend, had good grades, and was even a good brother and son to both his siblings and his parents. She changed her mind and said she wasn't going to ever tell him the truth. There was no need for him to know the truth.

Then a year ago, her conscience started to bug her again and she changed her mind and said she was going to tell him but on a faithful day that she decided to tell him, her last born and last boy was taken from her. He was killed by one of Cyrus' guys just because he was a wolf that transformed at age thirteen. When she eventually found his body, it was battered. It was obvious that it was the work of a wolf. She hid the truth from her remaining two kids and said he was mugged and killed. She knew that the lie wouldn't hold now.

She knew Carl would want to know everything that had happened and he would want to go after Cyrus and he had every right to. It was his destiny. Bethany was supposed to defeat Cyrus and bring him down to his knees with the help of a few wolves and he was one of them. She thought she could change his destiny but fate did have a way of making things happen according to the initial plan. Tears rolled down her face. She wiped them away when she heard Brielle scream. She got up from where she was moping and sped towards the sound. She found Carl, holding Brie.

It wasn't him. It was his wolf side trying to break out again. She grabbed him by the collar and threw him to the other side of the room. She grabbed Brie and sped off with her to the gym where Beth was, still trying to ease her stress. Carl growled and stood up from where he had landed and followed them with equal speed. Beth felt them come in and she unplugged her earphones. She saw Carl come in immediately and go after his sister. That was what he wanted, blood. She sped and stood in between Carl and his family

"You have to stop this, now!" She said

He growled at her and pushed her away. She landed on the other side of the gym and her wound reopened. She touched it and saw that it was already bleeding. She had an idea. She knew if he was like this then his sense of smell would be heightened and she was right about it because immediately she look at her hand, and he looked at her. He sped to her and grabbed her by her neck. He threw her to the other side of the room and it knocked her out. He sank his fangs into her neck and drank from it. His eyes glowed with gold outline and his senses came back to him

"Carl no!!!!" Brie screamed as his fangs went inside Beth's neck

When his senses eventually came back and he realized what he had done, he moved back. Beth was out unconscious. She was barely breathing

"Beth? Hey, babe, it's me. I didn't mean this. Please, say something. Beth, I am sorry"

His mom sped to him

"Mom, help her. Please, do something"

He said as tears rolled down his eyes. His mom grabbed her and took her to her room. She dropped her on her bed. She was out cold and Emily was clueless about what to do. She stared at the body of her niece. It was almost white. She was pale and she was dying. If she wasn't a wolf, she ought to be dead. She already lost a lot of blood and her wound was healing slowly. Also, it was not like she was resting exactly. The more strenuous activities she did, the more the wound opened.

She dropped to her knees and tears started to flow from her eyes. Everything was her fault. None of this would have happened if she hadn't kept this a secret. None of this would have happened if she had given him that stupid serum and accepted the way things were. It would have been different. He was like have learned to take control and now her niece was hurt because of her mistake. Her late sister would not be proud of her actions. Carl freshened up and came to Beth's room. He saw his mother on her knees

"She isn't dead, is she?"

"No she's not but she isn't exactly fine either. I know you blame me for all these. It is my fault but now, you have the chance to choose. You can take the serum again and this would all be over or you can transform tonight and let it all out. Be who you are supposed to be. This doesn't have to be you if you don't want it to be"

"I want to ask you a question, Mom. Why didn't you use the serum?"

"I couldn't. This life, this wolf side of me, it's all I have left of my former life. The one I was forced to leave behind because someone saw me as a threat. The time I had with my sister and my parents, running brings them back. Feeling the wind in my hair, running on four legs, everything just happens so fast. The rush and thrill, the emotions you feel, the strength and energy. I don't know baby but I don't want it to go away. It is a constant reminder of where I'm from, of who I am"

"Did Carson really get killed by a robber or did he got killed because he was a wolf?"

"He got killed because he was a wolf, a rare wolf-like Bethany is, like you are and I'm scared I'm going to lose you and her the same way I lost him"

"Who did it, mom? Cyrus?"

"Yes, he did and I'm going to rip out every bone in his body for it, I swear"

Carl looked at his Mom. His eyes held tears that he was struggling to keep in. He sped off. His mom sighed. She didn't know what else to do. She had to tell him the truth. He went to his favorite spot and screamed. He eventually came back home and sat beside her until she woke up. She moaned softly as she opened her eyes. She blinked back to reality. She looked out her window. It was evening and the sun was out of the sky. She looked down at her bedside and saw Carl there

"Hey Wolfie, welcome back"

"Hey, how long was I gone?"

"The whole day. I'm sorry"

"Don't be. I knew what I had to do"

"And what was that? Get killed because of me?"

"I really can't be killed easily, I told you that. You shouldn't worry about yourself"

"I can't keep hurting you either. I'm a threat, a danger to everybody. I can't go on like this"

"What do you mean?"

He brought out a serum from his pocket. He looked at it

"I have decided to take it. I can't be a monster. I can't let this happen again. I don't think I would be able to live with myself if I kill anybody I care about. I can't hurt you again. This was the second time in twenty-four hours"

"So you would rather give it up? You would rather get rid of it instead of train it? How much of a coward are you all in this house? You are willing to make the exact same mistake your mom made and you're angry with her for making the decision? What difference does it make then if all you want to do is throw it away and does that mean I'm a monster, does that make your mom a monster too?"

"What else would you rather I do? I've hurt you! I fucking care about you. I was going to hurt Brie and mom if you hadn't interfered and when you did, I hurt you. I would have killed you if you were human"

"Well, I'm not! I'm not human. I'm a wolf and I am proud to be one! I wouldn't ever give it up no matter what. I would never take who I am or what I am for anything and that's the difference between you and me. You can go ahead and do whatever you want but it would never change the fact that you're a werewolf. It is only a matter of time before it resurfaces and when it does, you would hate yourself. Right now, the only thing you can do is transform and learn to control your wolf side which is easier after transformation. Removing it is not a solution to the problem. You are living evidence of that and you should know better than to make the same mistake. I need to rest. I'd be transforming in case you change your mind and let nature take its course"

She said as she turned her back to him
