After whirling the books back in place, he shot the maid a dirty glare. "Follow." He ordered, needing to keep her in sights. As she recollected, her eyes widened but followed his command, heading to the infirmary with him.
The walk was uneasy, much more than normal. She felt the tension in the air, but presumed it would of been from her mother's declining health. She wished everything within this house was a shorter distance, the suspense and his fingers clutching her were beginning to hurt.
Arriving at the infirmary door, she felt things were too quiet. If her mother awakened, would there be noise? It was nearly as though the inside were far too quiet to have her or anyone within there. "Open the door first." Isaac ordered the maid, pulling her by the neck of her dress.
The maid stumbled and completely fumbled with her words. "That wasn't a request. Unless you wish to lose all your fingers, then." Immediately, she rushed to the door and opened it, only to be flung backwards and crashing to the floor by some weapon. "Damn it, Isaac!" She heard a boy yell, the same voice of the one who made the lope comment.
Storming out, a tanned boy with golden eyes and long red hair to his hips emerged. His hair was extremely unkept yet shiny, he brandished a very long sword reminiscent of a spear. "How'd ya notice so damn quick?" He barked out, extremely expressive.
With a swift kick the spear spun and landed right beside him lodged to the ground. "Eh? Little Eleventh!" He smiled, leaning down to pat her only for her brother to step to the side.
This happened repeatedly until her brother hit him on the head, him rubbing. "Owww, that hurt." He huffed, the maid on the ground groaning but they paid no mind as they entered the infirmary. No sight of his mother.
"Nyx, where's my mother?" He asked, looking away from him. She could hear him mutter do no indulge. This was him, the other one she needed to help her survive her time in the Duke's estate! The sixth son, Nyx was the only one who protected the real Theia to the point of her death, she didn't precisely know why as the novel never explained, but surely it wouldn't be difficult to convince him.
Playing with his spear, the other boy pretended not to hear. "I never got my apology." He pouted, running his fingers through the sharp tip, smiling, she couldn't begin to fathom what was going on in his head as he stared between the spear tip and the maid on the floor.
She felt Isaac's grip loosen, only to look up and see his face the most expressive she'd ever seen. Pure disgust as his face was scrunched up at the other man, clicking his tongue as though he were a piece of trash. "Hey cut that out, that makes me feel like you genuinely hate me!"
Despite the protest, he continued looking at him as though he were an insignificant but the other boy cracked. "She's back in her room! She woke up awhile ago and told her ya was waitin' for her." He said, raising his arms behind his head, all too carefree as he whistled. Seems like he didn't change that much from childhood to adulthood.
Turning away Isaac spend off presumably to their mother's room, only for Nyx to follow suit. It was nearly like Isaac was a cat trying to avoid being touched, but Nyx kept trying to approach him. "Ya really do have a one track mind, huh." She heard him mutter, and she could say he sure was persistent.
Following them back to their mother's room, Theia watched as Isaac stormed in and immediately walked to his mothers side, with his free hand checking her forehead and then her pulse all before she could greet him. Letting out a sigh of relief, he glared at the staff until they get the memo to beat it, only the doctor would stay.
As Isaac asked her basic questions, she found herself staring at Nyx, who ended up staring down at her in response. Her brother was of average height, maybe a little short due to their mother's genetics compared to the Duke's, but it seemed like Nyx was a giant. He was often labeled the "intimidating guard dog" of Theia by others within the Argyris household, but he truly was!
As he smiled at her, he flashed his teeth and they seemed incredibly sharp, strangely, it was nearly comforting. Unlike the other Argyris children, he had a sense of easiness around him with the way he acted and spoke around her brother, subconsciously reaching out her hands, she smiled back up at him to show she held no hostility, she'd need to use him in the future.
Smile widening, she found herself snatched away from her brother, only for the two to immediately begin fighting over her. "If ya want her back, then take her!" Nyx teased, holding her in his hands above his head, her brother glaring. "Go die." He seethed.
He attempted to use wind magic, only for Nyx to remind him to be careful, she's an infant. She couldn't see his smirk, but he ended up getting to hold her, her arms wrapping around his neck as he squeezed her cheeks with his free hand. "You're going to die afterwards." Isaac said while making his way back over to his mother, double checking she was okay while closely watching Nyx.
She couldn't tell their relationship, but it wasn't exactly bad nor the best of friends. Regardless, she'd probably be able to work with this. Acting is a natural Argyris trait, when better to learn it? Smiling, she gripped at his hair as she felt her cheeks get pulled at, still staying silently as she smiled with her eyes closed acting innocent as she could.
As he cooed over how he wished he had a little sister like her, she nearly didn't hear what her mother and Isaac were saying. Nearly, if it weren't for the fact Nyx went silent along with the room, staring at her mother, who was shaking. "Mother…?" Isaac questioned, looking at her to the doctor.
She could see her nails digging into his arm as she pulled him down to look her into the eyes. "Eins, darling. Where did you hear about beast tamers?" She asked, her voice shaky as his hands begun trembling, grip increasing in strength as she repeated once more, where he heard of this thing.
