RUEBEN
I left the house and headed back into the woods. Usually I felt better after leaving the suffocating confines of that house. But today the forest couldn't offer me complete peace.
The gentle rustle of leaves couldn't silence the loud questions and voices in my head.
What did he want? What could he possibly even mean? Reinstated? Was that even possible? I'd gotten so used to his hatred, to his anger that I couldn't trust this, couldn't trust him.
But it wasn't his idea. My Uncle had never openly been my biggest fan, but he didn't support my father's abuse, or the taunts of the rest of the pack. He might've not stopped it. But he took care of me after each fall and each hit till I was able to do it myself.
And to me, that was more than enough.
I reached the old shed. This too was a place I'd rather not visit if I could help it.
Filled with the ghosts of my past. A life that seemed so far away now.
