CHAPTER 3
Ling hun:
It was 2:30 pm when I arrived home. It was my birthday, I reckoned I should go to Number ate. As I walked in my room, I was welcomed with a made-up bed, replaced towels and the scent of vanilla air freshener. I took a shower in the steaming hot water which created a pink layer on my skin. I decided I would wear a white long sleeve crop top, with a pair of black high waisted jeans. I was accessorised with a pearl headband, white heart earrings and the necklace Jin Hai gave me. For make-up, I wore a gradient pink lipstick and mild eye shadow.
Xiao Xu:
In the search for a job I reluctantly called Shang to see if he could help. He barely spent any time with me again because of his possessive girlfriend Lang Shi.
"Xiao Xu, open this door!"- Shang
"Coming!"- Xiao Xu
"I'm surprised Lang shi is not tailing you around today."- Xiao Xu
"She said something came up that she has to attend to."- Shang
"Xiao Xu, you borrowed an enormous sum of money from me last month, and you are yet to repay me!"- Shang
"Yes Shang, I promise I will repay you. It is just that things have been really tough lately, this is why I called you here in the first place."- Xiao Xu
"I understand, pay me back whenever you can. It is no rush, you look like you need to destress.
How about I take you to Number ate and then when we come back home we can come up with an idea for your job. I promise there will be no Lang shi. It would just be us boys like the old days." - Shang
"Number ate has some of the best food and drinks, but I would not be able to afford any of the things sold there."- Xiao Xu
"I would just pay and you would reimburse me when you get the money, that's all."- Shang
"Just this once okay, I am supposed to be working all now. Just give me a minute to change!"
Ling hun:
The club was full of disco lights and loud music. People were parading on the dance floor. In the flash of a light I thought I saw someone like Jin Hai. I decided I would follow him. It led up to the backstage where people normally perform. I was perplexed to see Lang Shi. Jin Hai wrapped his hands around her waist. He plunged her into the wall and they began to make out. Their lips interlocked each other lustfully. I decided I would confront this two sided backstabber once and for all.
"Jin Hai! Is that what you call a truce!?" - Ling hun
He was so shocked to see me he pushed Lang Shi aside. Due to her laced black heels she tripped and fell to the ground. I did not care, why was she being so amorous with my boyfriend?
"Ugh, the drama queen has once arrived again."- Lang shi
(Lang shi flipping her hair) "Ling hun, I know you are a self centered girl, but I did not know that you were also so insecure that you follow your boyfriend wherever he goes."
"Lang Shi, I am sorry to ruin your moment but I am sure as you claimed back in high school "that you were smarter and prettier than me" you would know that "my boyfriend" is not "your boyfriend."- Ling hun
"Jin Hai, are you too ashamed to face the truth? You usually woo girls with your charming words, so far not a word has come out of your mouth."- Ling hun
(Lang shi rolling her eyes) "Ling hun why do you have to ruin everything in my life? First you won the award for #1 student, then it was you who got the modelling gig back then, not Lang Shi Tachibana. What do people see in you? Is it that beauty mark on your forehead that makes you look like you are from the Southern Dynasty? The least you could do is share your man!"- Lang Shi
Xiao Xu:
Shang and I entered Number ate. It was bustling just like the last time I came. The disco lights were at its brightest and the music was at its loudest tempo.
I explored the club a little bit to see its newest renovations, leaving Shang to order the drinks. The stage used to be just a smaller platform but now it is huge. Number ate pays the best entertainers to come to their club. I heard loud shouts backstage. I decided to eavesdrop and hear what the commotion was.
"You know what Lang Shi, you can keep Jin Hai. Do whatever you want to him, I do not care anymore."- Ling hun
"Looks like the drama queen turned into a party queen, anyways, for the first time in my life I actually agree with you." - Lang Shi
"But Sunshine please do not leave I love…."- Jin Hai
"Jin Hai save it! I wish you and Lang Shi all the happiness in the world."- Ling hun
"Jin Hai, I can't believe you choose Ling hun over this (Lang shi showing off her curves)"- Lang shi
"If you cannot make up your mind as to whom you truly like, then I would help you make it up. We are done! Do not kiss me, talk to me, call me ever again you sick little psycho."- Lang Shi
Both of the girls angrily walked out. It was now I recognized that Lang Shi was Shang's girlfriend. She was dressed in a white silk dress that was homogenous to her complexion, exposing the tones and ridges of her torso. The fire red lipstick was screaming for attention. Her dainty feet were fitted into a pair of black laced stilettos.
Ling hun:
"Hi, may I have two shots of tequila?" - Ling hun
"Sure, a drink for a beautiful lady."- Bartender
I drank those two shots, it felt as if all the worries in the world had escaped through the glass. I believe I started to get tipsy. I went to dance to the music. I felt someone's hands wrapped around my waist from behind. As I looked back it was a boy, I felt a connection to him. He grabbed on to me so tight and he lifted me off the ground. Dancing with him for hours felt like I was alive again.

Xue Zan:
I witnessed the girl dancing by the river as usual. I went and asked if I could join her for a dance. She said with a gentle and serene voice, "I dance with the waves of this river, not for mere amusement but for my father. Most people send joss paper to their loved ones in the hope they have a luxurious afterlife. Money is my father's greatest enemy. It split up his children and was the cause of his death. My father loved this river with all his heart so that is why I dance to this in order to pay tribute to him." I said to her, "my maiden, your filial love would make you live long enough just like this river."
