The storm passed as quickly as it came, only a little drizzle of rain being present. The ladies congratulated the couple and the little girl for getting a son and left to their house.

After the ladies left the room was silent yet the atmosphere was filled with happiness, tears of joy filled the eyes of the family members.

Pandit came close to the bed where her wife laid with the new born baby in her arms feeding her milk,

" My love, you have yet again given me another reason to live, to strive forward for better." ,sobbed the man like a child while kissing her forehead.

" Yeah! now I can also brag that I have a brother too. " said excitedly the little girl.

" Mom, mom, can i hold my baby brother? Please"

Both the parents smiled faintly as they looked at the puppy eyes their daughter, was giving them.

" Of course. My dear, hear hold him carefully. "

As she carefull gave her child to her daughter slowly, as if she was holding a precious glass that would break if held carelessly.

"Meena, as his elder sister, you have to take care of your little brother from now on and you will have to protect him from dangers." said Pandit with a glint of envy, the envious gaze was not malicious at all. In fact he was just eager to hold his son close to his chest and feel the joy of being a father again after so many years.

With a smug look on her face Meena said while holding his brother in her arms,

"Don't worry, Dad, this big sis will protect his lil brother with her life on line. "

Laughter broke out within the family without knowing that the words Meena said will happen for real and more so, far sooner than anyone expected.

Soon, they started to talk about the future and all. Within the chit chat they staggered on a particular topic as to what name should they give their new born.

" I know, I know, we would name him Ishan"

Said the girl eagerly and hoping his parents accept the name she selected. But for her dismay

"No, It's too common name, the neighbourhood, Sarita's son also has the same name. "

" I will think of a name so you both don't worry about it. " said the proud mother with a glint of obvious joy.

The father and daughter looked at her and said in unison," " No you alone can't do that""

The mother, giggled and said,

"I can surely do that, previously our daughter's name was given by you, so now I will be the one who will name our son."

"Fine. " both admitted defeat

"yes, then his name will be-"

Suddenly, a breeze flowed in from the window, which caressed her face, while seemingly whispered something into her ear.

When she looked at the face of his baby to think a name, for a second she thought, she saw the outline of monkey on his face.

She turned her face to the left and looked at the photo frame hung on the wall. She then decided.

".."

"M-Maruti"

"Maruti??" both father and daughter asked

"Yess, I don't know why but I feel like he is destined to get this name." said Urmila.

Unbeknownst to them they were giving their son, one of the names of the most celebrated God by the Indian. Well they certainly know the name of the God 'Maruti' belonged to. But they just seemed to forget about it.

"Yeah, it sounds good too, from Now on our son's name will be 'Maruti'. " said Pandit.

"Okay," somehow feeling sad but soon Meena cheered up. She then quickly ran towards kitchen saying, "Mom and Dad wait for two minutes, I will make some soup for us. "

Both the parents looked at each other with some pride as if saying to each other

'Our daughter has grown spledidly.'

The night then went by silently, without any noise the family slept together.

Thus today, will Be set in the records as a date that will be remembered as

THE DESCENT OF A GOD...

Far above the sky, out of the solar system, a certain Man was looking into a device that showed a small hut where family of four members were sleeping peacefully. His gaze was fixed on a new born who radiated a divine charm and muttered silently

"Grow well MARUTI."

swoosh!!!

Just in the blink of an eye, the man dissappeared, and the only scene left was dazzling and twinkling of millions of stars.

Back to earth, in the village of Rampur, the sun has risen and it was 8 o'clock in the morning.

In a particular small hut people were doing chores and many more,

"Leela, would you please give the priest the things necessary for the pooja"

Said Pandit while he himself was busy, peeling coconut necessary for " The Namkaran Pooja" (The naming ceremony where a priest comes and do some ritual and names the child)

The house was filled with the sounds of laughter from children and the surrounding air had the smell of different incense flowing through.

Leela, who is a neighbour, of pandit's came to help as there will be a small banquet along with the Pooja. She said,

"Pandit you come here, me and Meena will look into everything, so Hurry up and join Urmila and The priest."

Pandit, quickly peeled the last coconut and hurried to get into the traditional attire, of Indian Dhoti & came to sit near Urmila, who was sitting with Maruti in her lap.

Soon, guests started coming, neighbourhoods youth helped Meena and Leela in the distribution of the banquet.

While in the room, sanskrit mantras were being heard.

The priest soon told the couple to hold the child's hand and write his name on the rice plate to finish the ceremony.

This is a ritual carried out in many Indian family's.

The couple were undoubtedly happy and held the boy's hand delicately as they wrote his name on the plate containing rice, "MARUTI".

The priest chanted his final Prayers and said,

" The Namkarn is done".

Both the couples stood up, took blessing from priest and offered him clothes and took him to eat.

After the priest went many people who waited finally came and congratulated the couple.

And so the Namkaran of our protagonist came to an end when all the guests left.
