Chapter 4 - Maruti's Hunger

Its been two days since the world was shocked to the core. All the countries announced that travel through air will be closed within five days as after that the weather would truly be unpredictable.

So many people returned to their origin country in a hurry as they didn't want to live outside their country with less protection.

Slowly but steadily the disaster management teams of all countries worked day and night to announce the upcoming rules and safety measures.

In India

The coastal area people were told to vacate their home within 15 days to live in nearby govt disaster resistant facilities.

People were slowly becoming restless, the stores were filled with people, and the prices of many food and amenities increased.

Fortunately for people the Govt. Announced rice, salt, oil, water, canned foods as basic amenities needed for future so their pricea were not increased.

Still the most suffering came to the poor people who can't even afford a house or daily 3 times of foods.

The whole world was alerted.

Rampur Village, India

The people of this village also came to know, this but many of them were religious and superstitious, so they didn't leave the village to go to the city and planned to stay in the Temple of the village if push comes to shove.

As the only temple in the village, it had 300 stairs, and the height of the temple was atleast 5 to 6 floors.

Though Rampur is described as a small village it's population neared five thousand.

Still many people fled to city to seek better protection and when they left they also handed their houses to their neighbours for security and for safety, cause all those who left to city were rich enough to have 2 storey houses.

Pandit's close friend Prakash and Leela's husband, who is a vendor, also left to city so he gave his house keys to him saying,

"Pandit, my brother, take care of yourself and your family. If you think the rain is heavy or the storm is strong then don't hesitate to go to my house, take this key and live there."

"As you know mine is a big house, and you can stay their safely, and we will be living our and my dog Timy will be in your care too."

Pandit though was a proud man, didn't refuse to Prakash's help. His instinct were warning him about the upcoming disaster.

Soon Prakash left, and he turned to his wife with gloomy face.

Cause his current problem was, his only son, Maruti, who was growing at a terrifying speed like a bamboo shoot. His growth was anything but normal. But his growth brought another problem, with his growth came hunger.

Not any normal hunger but so much hunger that Maruti cried almost every 1 hour after eating. He began drinking, buffalo milk, eating cereals and soup.

Yet his hunger was not stopping.

"Dear what will we do, if this continues we have to sell somethings to get food, though we have enough food for a over 2 months. Thanks to the good crop that yielded this year. But I don't think those will last long too." said pandit dismayed .

" I think my milk will stop coming after 2 days.

And Maruti too doesn't seem to drink my milk now as he is almost as big as a 2 year old and my milk is not being enough for his appetite. "

Meena said enthusiasticly,

" Don't worry mom, i will make food for my lil bro. "

As everyone was thinking what to do, they heard something,

" Ma-ma",

Two indistinct word, but whose meaning could be understood by everyone present, came out from Maruti's tiny mouth.

"Dear, our baby, said.."

"Yeah, I know, I don't even care about anything anymore. I wouldn't even be surprised if he calls me dada now."laughed Pandit heartily forgetting all his worries.

" Da-Da" said Maruti as if understanding his Father's words.

Everyone was again shocked and they forgot everything and played with Maruti happily. Meena seemed to be the most excited to hear her name from him, as she excitedly held Maruti and said,

"My lil bro, come on, say Meena, Meena."

"Mi-Nu" after saying, Maruti giggled as if he was saying no i will not call you Meena rather I will call you Minu.

Everyone became very happy, that not only Maruti was growing physically fast, very fast, he also seemed to grow mentally too.

Pandit Got up after some time, "I don't think that with rain and bad weather that wil come, I could go to work further, so i have to secure some money and food & other things within tomorrow."

After saying so he left.

The mother and daughter couldn't help but sigh as they looked at the giggling Maruti.

Soon, few days passed and the weather began showing it's bad side.

The sky was being covered by dark clouds, so dark that it seemed a black blanket covered the sky.

It began to rain, so all the villagers were locked inside their house.

The pandit family, were moving to Prakash's house, when they opened the gate, a dog barked and ran towards them. It jumped on Meena, and started licking it. "O Timy, did u miss me?"

(Meena came to visit Timy on a daily basis to give him food and water)

Meena said after standing up and patting the Dog, which was not any special breed rather, a local dog.

Prakash had picked it up when it was a pup and it stayed with them from then and Meena often came to play with him.

They then transfered all the necessary things and foods to the new house. And closed all doors.

They began chatting with each other.

Yet again, Maruti's physical growth could be noticed as he grew again and looked like a proper 2 years old. He could now walk like a toddler and even speak childishly.

"Mama, food. Maruti hungry." said the tumbling Maruti as he walked close to his mother.

" Aww my poor baby is hungry, okay wait and mama will make u porridge." said Urmila smilingly.

"Mama make a lot of food, my belly hurts." Maruti said in a sad tone as he twirled his hand on his bare belly.

"Mama will make you a lots of food don't worry."

Then she went to the kitchen and began making food.

Fortunately, Pandit was able to secure anough food and canned food too for them to survive 2 months easily and still have some left.

But they truly underestimated Maruti's hunger, cause the rate of growth of Maruti is truly terrifying. So the amount of energy his body needed is almost the same level of an adult.

But besides all these Maruti's mental power also received strong boost. As he began to read books and write with the help of Meena.

He even understood how to add and subtract within a day. And it will be perhaps take 2 or 3 days for him to complete the books till 5th class. Naturally the parents were happy to learn this.

After Urmilla went to the kitchen, Meena and Maruti began to play Hide and Seek with their father.

The lights were out and it was raining heavily with thunders, but they were in Prakash's house. Apart from their food and things, Prakash's house had lots of food, wheat, flour, spices, emergency lights, gas even candles.

Such is being rich, if you are rich you can live a life of comfort.

After finishing the porridge, Urmilla called all of them and not to her surprise, Maruti came running first with his small tiny feet to eat and sat down obediently. She then went to kitchen to bring utensils to distribute food, alas when she returned what she saw shocked her.

Maruti was digging his face in one of the big bowl that contained porridge which was enough to satisfy 5 to 6 adult person.

He drank and drank and drank. Until there was only a little portion remained.

Seeing this, Urmilla was out of words, little did she know that this son of her has a stomach like a black hole that would eat up everything.

Upon seeing his mom, Maruti smiled happily and ran to hug her.

Seeing this Urmilla couldn't help but feel sorry, and hugged her son. When the father and daughter came, they saw the scene and understood what happened.

Soon Urmilla told them, "Wait for some timeI will make some more. " and she laid Maruti on the couch and he slept easily.

" It seems Maruti's hunger is lot worse." saying Pandit shrugged his shoulders

"Forget it we have sufficient food no need to worry and when the rain stops I will bring more."
