Chapter 5 - First day

"No," she was forced to answer when Jessi began laughing over what she had no idea about. "Why are you laughing?" she asked when she saw Jessie's laughter continued ceaselessly.

"You need to see your facial expression. You look like you want to date him but you are trying to cover it up. He is very single and you two would make a good couple, we could finally become family," Jessie replied happily.

"You are not serious, right?" Lexi was forced to ask as she did not know why the woman came up with such a crazy idea. "Don't I have a boyfriend?"

She believed a woman as beautiful as herself would not be lacking men around her who want to date her or get that cookie.

"You broke up a few months ago, or did you two get back together? Thank goodness we moved."

Lexi wore a confused expression.

Jessie sighed and placed her cutlery on the table with a clang. She leaned back and met Lexi's gaze seriously. "What happened or what is happening?"

Lexi also placed her cutlery on the table but was gentler than her friend. She has been with the woman for hours now and if this woman had any bad intentions toward her, she would have known and taken her down.

"I think I have lost all my memories. I cannot remember what happened to me in the past from the day I found out my brother disappeared."

"Didn't you report him missing?"

She did before those people came to her. The police went to the company her brother claimed he worked in and there was no record of him.

The police concluded that her brother must have run away from the responsibility of taking care of her. It was a painful conclusion because she knew her brother will never do that to her.

"I am done here and I am not a vegetarian, I need some meat," she told the woman as she stood up from the table. She scolded herself for thinking it was a good idea to tell Jessie.

"Then cook your dinner," Jessie spat. "Hmph."

Lexi glanced at the woman and reckoned that she will have to figure it out on her own and try to survive. She was yet to decide to either stay away from the organization or find them.

***********

Jessie woke her up the following morning with a knock on the door. She rolled and looked at the digital clock on the nightstand. It was 6:07 am. She groaned as she stretched on the bed before standing up.

She had watched this Lexi's videos and she knew about her morning routine. She did not hesitate to begin getting ready. It was easy for her to blend everything into her consciousness.

When she looked at herself in the body-sized mirror fixed on the door of her closet, she was pleased with what she saw.

There were a lot of things she did not understand because she could not believe most of the things Jessie said to her as many of them did not sound rational but she could not rule them out as she always wanted to live without excess attachments.

If being a model could have made her too attached, she could see the present her cutting off to take a break or simply find something else.

Jessie like a mother had prepared her a breakfast of fruit salad and toast. She ate only the toast while Jessie feasted on the fruit salad.

They left for work together. Luckily, although she did not want to believe that it put her at ease, the two of them would get to work in the same faculty.

She was going to work as the dean's assistant which she researched last night and Jessie got a job as a Lecturer.

The school that looked empty when they went to eat lunch yesterday, was busy. "What will happen to my house?"

"You told your manager to rent it to any two college students she thinks are neat enough to maintain it for you."

"And did I go to college?" she asked Jessie.

"Yes, you did. Do you think Jeff would have been able to help you if you did not have both a college certificate and years of working experience?"

She looked down thoughtfully.

"You should seriously not ask me questions like that, okay? If this was a twenty-four hours challenge, it should have ended last night."

Lexi pressed her lips together to take a break from asking the many questions she wanted to ask.

"If you are asking me those questions to boost your self-confidence then I want you to know that the Dean was impressed by the outstanding result and I heard most of his assistants in the past were very beautiful so your beauty alone qualifies you.

"You should really thank Jeff. He made this happen. It is very impossible, especially in such high standard university."

Lexi shook her head, this was beyond a simple high standard university, it has never dropped from being rated among the best three universities in the world for almost two centuries now.

She had to say her job was a dream job worth being envied by others. She was not only his assistant because he was the dean but she was his assistant because he was the only descendant of the Casphel family and his ancestor started the school.

The Casphel family also ran a few other businesses, they even had a hospital and malls all over the world. He was among the most powerful people in the world. His family was the strongest in the world.

Her heart raced, pumping so hard it almost exploded. She was about to meet the man who killed her brother. She was about to meet the man she wanted dead the most in the world.

He took away her only family member and she wanted to make the Casphel family without a head, without a leader. She will be the person to end the powerful family that has lasted for more than three centuries.

"I will stop on the fourth floor while you should go to the top floor to report," Jessie told her with a gentle pat on her shoulder. "You look nervous. You should not be. You were given this job because of your outstanding social ability. You will be fine."

Jessie's words only made her nervous. She was a total introvert before it all changed and she was not sure if she will survive her first day but she was determined to try.

She also wondered why Jessie did not say this for all this while after claiming her cousin did it. A lot of things were not summing up.

"I will call you during lunchtime," Jessie told her before stepping out of the elevator.

She clenched her hands to hold back from stopping Jessie from leaving. She felt so alone in the elevator despite the two other people in it with her. She wished she could stop Jessie and beg her to go with her.

"You can do it," she murmured under her breath and sucked in a breath.
