It was a new day for many as the sun rose again. It marks a new beginning as many say.
Only a few hours ago, her boss had told her that even though they were giving her the knife to stab her brother's killer, she will have to watch and supervise her closest subordinate as they try to find a file locked up.
She felt like a sprinter on her mark, set to go and yet made to wait forever for that gunshot that sets her flying on the track against the wind and fatigue with one aim, to kill.
The scene was different from her room as she sat up. First, she had slept in a black sweatshirt and sweatpants so what was she doing in a purple silk nightdress?
There was a lot she did not understand. She froze when she saw the vanity table with so many cosmetics, she was not one to wear cosmetics.
Since her brother died, she had only used a chaplet and lotion to prepare to leave her room. Her eyes moved from the cosmetics to the other parts of the room.
The room was strangely familiar, yet unfamiliar. It reminded her of her room before she moved into the residence she was offered by the organization.
She jumped down from the bed and that had her slumping to the soft beige rug. She felt dizzy as she tried to ease that uncomfortable feeling.
She was so fit that she should never feel this way. It took her a few seconds to stand up and she hated the strange weakness she felt.
There was a soft gentle knock on the door and a young lady dressed in a white suit walked into the room. "Seriously?" the woman asked in frustration.
Lexi was left feeling confused as she did not know the woman who looked like she wanted to cuss at her so badly but she did not see the woman as a threat that was why she had not thrown the woman to the floor with her hands behind her.
"You are not going to get me into trouble please," the woman complained as she glared at Lexi and approached her. "You are going to make us both late."
Lexi was pushed further into a confused state as she looked at where the woman held her wrist with a palm that felt so soft and warm against her skin.
"Lexi, this is not a time to play around, please," the woman begged frustratedly as she pushed open the door of Lexi's room.
"Who are you?" Lexi asked as she looked at the strange woman.
She did not have a photographic memory but she was born with an outstanding IQ there was no way she would forget someone with such a notable appearance.
"Please do not prank me. We are going to be late for the flight and like I said yesterday, I have to be at work latest by lunchtime."
"I said who are you?" Lexi asked with her brow furrowed as she pulled her hand from the woman's grip.
"My name is Jessi and I have been your friend for three years now. Satisfied? Enough of your prank, take your bath, and dress up please."
The woman left her and returned to her room. The bathroom was different from what she remembered it to be as it seemed to have experienced a complete reformation.
She did not know why she was obedient enough to walk to the shower cubicle. She froze and held back a scream when she saw the face of the woman in the mirror beside the door of the shower cubicle looking at her.
The woman was Lexi, it was her almond green hazel eyes that stared back at her and her plum lips that parted to scream but this woman was everything she was not as Hunter X in the organization.
The woman was not as fit as she was due to years of intense training. She was not the woman with the ugly scar but a gentle and delicate lady she wanted to be as a model.
She walked out of the bathroom into the room where the woman whose name was Jessi was trying to pull out a suitcase from under her bed.
"Where is my brother?" she asked as she could not grasp why she looked just the way the wanted to before her brother disappeared. This was not right; she was supposed to change to fight for her brother.
Jessi stood up with her hands akimbo as she glared at Lexi tiredly. "I am not in the mood for all these, Lexi. Don't make me hate you for making me miss my first lunch in Csaphel town," Jessi scolded angrily. "I will answer all your questions, just get ready."
Lexi hearing the familiar town walked into the bathroom mechanically. Csaphel town was where that man lived and it was where she was assigned with her team.
When she opened her closet, it was empty.
"Are you ready?" Jessie asked peeping into the room and when she saw Lexi still in her dressing coat, she hurried into the room. "What is it? We have four minutes left; the taxi driver is waiting for us."
"Where is my cloth?" Lexi asked.
Jessi pulled Lexi out of the room and pointed at a cream suit laid out on the couch. Lexi understood and it took her two minutes to wear the clothes.
Jessi, like a mother, adjusted the cloth on her body and when she was done, she took a step back and looked at her before nodding in approval.
"As always, you look good. Once a model always a model. You are not going to do make-up today as we don't have enough time. I will help you pack your cosmetics just wear your shoes."
Lexi obeyed as she sat down to wear the four inches heeled sandals and standing, she was forced to remove them as she did not feel comfortable wearing them.
"What is it?"
"Can't I wear a pair of sneakers?" she asked the motherly Jessie.
Jessi groaned but she got Lexi the sneakers which had a soft two inches sole, black and neat. Jessi handled it all fast and well as the two of them were seated in a taxi a few minutes later.
"Your hair is not neat today. You always scold me about my dressing why am I the one doing it today?" Jessi asked angrily before looking out of the window.
Lexi touched her brunette wavy hair and looked at Jessi's blonde hair. She had only dried her hair with the hair dryer and combed her hair before leaving the bathroom.
