THE PAST (7 year old Selene, 9 year old Azriel)
Father's voice reached my room, making me flinch, "Zee, my son, where are you?"
Just then, I heard a knock at my door. Rushing to my bedroom door, I opened it just in time to see Fiery standing in the hallway, her eyes wide and uncertain. She looked so small and vulnerable standing there, and it sent a surge of protectiveness through me.
"Fiery?" I whispered urgently, my heart racing. "What are you doing here?"
Her gaze met mine, and I could see the confusion and apprehension in her eyes. "I... I wanted to see you. Are you okay?"
I nodded, my gaze never leaving hers. "I'm fine. But you shouldn't be here. My father... he's not someone you should meet."
