I watched his stunned expression before he quickly composed himself. He took a deep breath as if annoyed, "Fiery, you're mistaken," He said firmly, pulling away slightly and I felt my heart squeezed, "There is no connection between us beyond that of a guardian and his ward. It's my duty to protect you, and I take that responsibility seriously."
I wasn't buying though so I spoke up, "You take your responsibility so seriously that you kiss me, on the lips, the terrace make out, do you remember, Azriel?"
His expression remained nonchalant like it meant nothing to him, "Every time, our kiss was a mistake. And remember I told you not to fall for me? Did you?"
"You wish," I uttered, trying my best to look as him. Nonchalant. Like I didn't care.
Azriel's eyes flickered with something I couldn't quite read, but his face remained stoic. "Good. Because I can't be what you want me to be," he said, his tone slightly harsh.
