The Danari are an isolated race who make up the Council of Magic. Their purpose in this world and all worlds is to preserve the Capitals and destroy any threat that puts the Capitals in danger.
They are independent of any government, have no political ties to anyone and remain impartial in every decision.
There are ten Danari altogether, each looking completely different from the next. The only thing that binds them together is that they all have horns that come to the front of their heads but even those look different, some gold, others glowing, some black and hard like stone.
Three members of the council have been sent to Judge this trial: Danari Halo, Danari Sans and Danari Avara.
"Today, the Council of Magic will decide the fate of the Alpha Zarion Micah." Danari Avara's milky pink skin is smooth, the light hitting her face makes her cheek bones shimmer. One strand of her dark hair straddles the side of her face around her pointed ears, the horns sitting on top of her head dark but smooth.
"The intervention of the Danari is required in a trial as public as this one." Danari Halo looks less like an elf than Danari Avara, with human ears, his right covered in gold earrings that loop around his lobe and the left ear has a long triangular earing dangling from it.
He has more golden piercings on the bridge of his nose and a stud on his right nostril and a matching golden headpiece that is organically attached to his head like horns.
He looks older than other Danari, having a head of white, slicked back hair on top and thick, dark, brows and facial hair that grows all the way up to his hairline. His iris and pupil are golden too, like his insides of full of a golden liquid.
Danari Sans does not say anything, his appearance the most unusual out of the three. His dark skin contrast against the glowing blue horns around his head and the same blue tribal marks across his neck, face, and the top of his shaved head.
His ears are pointed too but unlike Danari Avara's, whose ears are vertical, his ears point towards the sky, having one piercing through his left ear that looks like the horns of a ram. He also wears a grey looking necklace with a circular pendant around his neck along with another chain that is simple in design.
The giant doors of the Court house slowly close behind them as the turn their back of the crowds outside and follow The Supreme and The Professor inside.
After a gruesome four hours, the trial finally draws to a close.
"Do you have anything left to say for yourself?" Danari Avara peers down at Zarion and waits for his answer.
Zarion looks down at the speech Noa had written for him to say but he cannot read the words because his hands are shaking. She wants Zarion to expose Roan as a Draven, the only distraction big enough to set Zarion free from his chains. "I do actually."
"Well, we better hear it then."
When Zarion looks up, Roan is the first thing he sees. Zarion blinks slowly, getting lost under Roan's watchful eyes before smiling. Roan unintentionally smiles back and watches Zarion's smile turn sour, his forehead creasing as his smile turns to a frown, his eyes dropping down to look at the speech in his hand.
Noa squints her eyes, noting Zarion's hesitance and strange behaviour. "He's not going to do it." she says quietly to herself, feeling somewhat surprised but also relieved by the outcome.
Zarion looks down at the words in his hands and rips them up, letting the paper fall onto the marble floor in front of the witness stand.
He sighs, his split decision expelling the stress on his shoulders. "The truth." Zarion smiles, still looking down at his hands.
"I do not want to hurt him anymore. He deserves to be set free because it does not matter what I say, it does not matter if I were in control or not, it would not matter if it was destiny or a sacrifice for the greater good...the pain he feels is because of me."
"Even if I saved him a million times from a rival pack, even If I gave him a happy life, a family, a place to live, I would still be responsible for his scars. I would be...his worst nightmare."
Mr. Odago raises his hand, interrupting the speech. "Would the defendant please speak up?"
"I spend every hour of everyday thinking about what I did. I still don't have all my memories of that night, but I see it in his smile. I see it in the way he looks at me. His pain from that night will never go away!"
"I see that and I will not put my own feelings above his. I will not trade my freedom for his because he is special." Zarion's voice cracks but he pushes through. "He is stronger than any of you give him credit for. He fights his battles every day without complaining."
"I find comfort in knowing that even after what I did, he isn't broken, and he might think he is and we might argue about it for hours...but you're more powerful than even you know."
Zarion looks around the courtroom, seeing Amelia, his mother, and Atari Dean in the crowd. His mother cries silently as she watches her child up on the stand. "If I made excuses for my actions, I would be my father and I don't want to be him," Zarion lets his tears rain down for the crowd to see. "I want to be like my mom. She brave and kind and...honest."
Zarion lets out a staggered breath, his eyes bloodshot, his face feeling stiff like a board. "So, the truth."
Danari Avara leans forward. "The truth?"
Zarion slams his fist down on the dark wood and shouts loud enough for everyone to hear his roar. "Wolf or not, I am guilty!"
After they collided....
