BANG
Owen was jolted awake by the echoing sound of someone slamming a table and the muffled roaring of two boys. He slowly sat and shook his head to clear his drowsiness, while doing this voices became clearer and he winced at the sound of a boy's yell.
He furrowed his brows and peered down over the railing to see that there was another person standing in his room now.
There was a short fragile looking boy who seemed to be about 160cm in height. He had short brown hair that ran down to the ends of his neck, near his shoulders. His bangs hovered over his brows and concealed his right eye. His green eyes had a strange emerald glow to them as a pair of glasses rested on his nose.
What was strange about him was that he had a worried expression on his face as he stared at the other end of the room, a cold sweat dripping down his neck.
Owen was confused as to what the boy was staring at so, he followed his gaze to see that there were two boys equal in height who looked like they were about to brawl.
One had short dark blue hair, its ends came down to rest on the back of his neck. Its color resembled the deep shade of blue one would see in the ocean. His skin was as smooth as jade and he had pearly white teeth that could be seen as he practically snarled at the boy opposite him. He was wearing a smoky gray hoodie as he stood tall. There was a glint of blue in the center of his bright yellow eyes for a split second as he frowned.
The other boy was a tall blonde who was the same height as the blue-haired youth. He had scarlet red eyes which resembled the color of blood. He was dressed in a sort of higher-class white outfit laced with gold and had a badge that resembled a heart on his chest. He gave off a sort of cocky aura as he folded his arms and tilted his head upward so he could look down at the boy in front of him, a mocking grin plastered on his face.
The room was filled with deathly and eerie silence as the two boys stood there glaring at one another. A few moments later a loud yawn echoed throughout the ears of the people in the room, causing them to look up in Owen's direction with raised eyebrows.
'Ah-'
Realizing that he had been noticed, Owen let out a loud sigh and made his way down off his bunk until he was stood in the awkward-shaped square of boys in the center of the room. He scratched the back of his neck as he felt the annoying pair of eyes plastered on him.
Owen sighed again.
"You guys sure are energetic this late at night"
The blonde squinted his eyes as he looked at Owen, his head still tilted up. He let out a chuckle. As he spoke in a cocky-sarcastic-like tone still grinning.
"It appears that our sleeping beauty decided to wake up"
Owen was a bit shocked by the sudden comment, which could be seen through his eyes that widened subtly. Owen smiled inwardly at himself bitterly as he felt his neck turn warm.
He was a bit embarrassed that he had slept as long as he did since it was supposed to be a short nap.
Although the snarky comment was unnecessary, it held some truth to it.
Before Owen could even reply the blue-haired boy suddenly cut in
"What is your problem! Stop acting so high and mighty! In case you didn't know, this is the military, your family's name means nothing here!" He emphasized the 'nothing'.
The blue-haired youth's voice was quite pleasant to listen to. It was deep but not too deep, and it contained a sort of wildness in it, making it clear that the boy was a type of out-going person.
The blonde's eyes twitched as he shot his glare toward the former.
"Leave it to the commoners to disregard basic manners. I wasn't talking to you, do you understand that?" He clicked his tongue before continuing.
"Why they let ill-mannered people like you sign up for the military is beyond me, what a waste of resources when we're at war!"
Unlike the blue-haired youths, the blonde's voice, which was only a tad higher than the other, was quite obnoxious to listen to. It contained the arrogance of a high and mighty noble which was even more evident in the boy's personality.
The blue-haired youth's eyes widened and his anger soared as his voice bellowed out toward the blonde.
"You! Why don't we find out who the waste of resources is then!?"
He raised his hands up by his waist, his palms facing upwards and his fingers spread to make a claw-like shape, as a faint crackle of electricity could be heard and a web of lightning was formed in his palms.
The blonde let out another cocky chuckle as he widened his eyes revealing a strange scarlet glow while he glared at the youth in front of him in disdain. Similar to the blue-haired youth, he raised his right hand high and formed a claw with it. The temperature within the room started to rise as a bright vermillion flame slowly formed in the boy's raised hand.
"Try it you rodent! I'll gladly get rid of you"
This is when the short boy from earlier suddenly stood up with a panicky expression as he alternated his gaze between the two boys in front of him.
He looked toward the blonde and yelled out.
"Stop it Akai! You can't start fights on your first day! You don't know what will happen!"
Akai, the blonde youth, didn't even look in the boy's direction as he snorted.
"Don't worry, I'm sure they won't mind if I get rid of one of the vermin that have polluted the military!"
"But-
"Just shut up Obe! I already told you it doesn't matter!"
Akai cut off the short brown-haired boy, Obe, before he could even finish his sentence.
At this point, the blue-haired boy couldn't help but get enraged even further as Akai insulted him like he wasn't even there.
"You upper-class piece of shit! Just because you had everything handed to you on a silver platter doesn't make you better than me! Watch while I rip that cocky smirk off your filthy face!"
Akai furrowed his brows as he watched the boy who looked like he would charge him at any minute.
At this point, another loud sigh rang out from behind the blue-haired youth which made both him and Akai look toward the source.
It was, of course, Owen who had sighed once again while he watched this thing go on. Scratching the back of his neck with a boring look.
'Woops'
Akai was the first one to speak.
"You, Can you do anything else but sigh and distract others?"
Owen shrugged his shoulders with a defeated smile at Akai's comment.
"What can I do about it, you're the ones who interrupted my nap with your annoying shouting. I could ask you the same thing, can you do nothing but yell and insult others?"
Akai's expression cracked a bit by the unexpected dig that Owen had made. Obe was shocked that someone had spoken up to Akai, not many people had the guts to do that considering Akai's family. Unbeknownst to him though Owen didn't know Akai's family name when he spoke.
Owen didn't even let Akai reply before he looked at the blue-haired youth. His gaze went toward the youth's hands to see the crackling lightning web dance around his palms.
The youth was prepared for another cocky noble to start berating him with insults as he glared fiercely at Owen.
Owen only chuckled slightly and walked closer to him with a subtle smile.
"Lightning hm? That's pretty cool, you must be what they call a variant right?"
Stunned by the fact that Owen had asked him questions instead of the usual insults, the blue-haired youth's glare faded and he seemed a lot more passive as he looked at Owen. Although he didn't show it, the blue-haired youth was happy at the fact that Owen wasn't like Akai and saw him as a sort of equal.
He let out a quiet sigh of relief and nodded at Owen.
When he saw the boy's relaxed expression Owen felt that he had raised the mood of the room so he smiled internally.
"You must be really strong then right?"
"I guess so… and you? What's your element?"
Owen had a weird expression as the boy asked the question but it faded almost immediately after. He chuckled and said with a smile.
"I don't have one"
