Chereads / Blade of Melancholy / Chapter 6 - Class Three

Chapter 6 - Class Three

It's been a day since Owen listened to the speech in the hall, he decided that he would do his best to become stronger during these five years, if he couldn't become stronger, then there was no way he could regain his family's fame.

The school supplied the students with basic needs, such as food, clothing and etc. The way the school was run here was different from others. It had a point system that was also a form of currency. Students could gain points from teachers, exams, raising their mana circles, and missions.

Owen was confused by the 'missions' though. 'Wasnt this a school? Why would the students need to go on missions?' He wondered. Either way, he would find out the way the school was run today, as today was his first day of lessons.

After he left the hall, he was handed a note and a watch, he was forced to put on the watch before he left and was told to open the note once he returned to his room. He saw nothing wrong with that, but his curiosity was peaked by the watch's existence.

The watch fit his wrist almost perfectly but, no matter what he did or what methods he tried, he could not use it. That's right, there was a watch on his wrist, it looked similar to a digital watch but not only did it not tell the time, but the screen on it was also pitch black. It was like trying to use a dead phone.

He ended up ignoring the watch after he realized he couldn't use it and instead opened his note the second he entered his dorm. He was the only one in the dorm at the time, he assumed the others were still getting their notes and watches.

When he opened the watch the first thing he could see was a small piece of paper that was folded in two, beside it was another piece of paper that was also folded but light yellow.

He took out the first piece of paper to see that it was quite small, it was no bigger than his palm. He unfolded it to see that the only thing on the paper were two words that read, "Class 3". He looked around the page one more time to be sure but found nothing other than those two words. Assuming that, that was the class he was put in he made sure to remember it.

He put the piece of paper away and then opened the yellow piece of paper. Unlike the previous one, this piece of paper was a small bit bigger than his hand. On it was a layout of the school, or, at least a portion of it. The paper wasn't very big but, on it was a yellow arrow that started at his dorm room and ended at what he presumed was class 3.

Currently, Owen was standing in front of a door, not paying attention to his surroundings as he took in a few deep breaths to calm his beating heart. The door he was standing in front of was the door to his classroom. Owen was a bit excited to find out what type of training the school would put him through to become stronger so he didn't get much sleep last night. That coupled with his late-night daydreaming made it so he only got about an hour of sleep, so not only was he extremely excited right now he was also a little bit drained and fatigued.

He couldn't help to curse in his heart at how the school started at 6 in the morning. He didn't understand how one was supposed to wake up so early.

"Are you going in or what?"

At this moment a voice suddenly rang out from beside Owen who was trying to calm his nerves. The voice belonged to a female and was quite pleasant to hear but, there was also a cold sort of arrogance within it. He looked over to see a familiar person standing right next to him. She was a bit shorter than him and had long silky white hair that sat in the center of her back, a few strands hung over her shoulder. Owen paused when his eyes met hers, her charming bright blue eyes made him feel strange as he stood facing her.

The girl's waist was thin and he body's curves drew the attention of both men and women. Owen was stunned by the girl's beauty and could feel his heart trying to jump out of his chest.

Noticing that he had spent a long time "observing" the girl in front of him he cursed at himself internally for ignoring her question.

The girl naturally noticed that he had yet to reply to her and frowned. She folded her arms and straighten her back a bit as she stared daggers at Owen. At the time it took for Owen to reply she couldn't help but ask once again. There was a hint of annoyance in her voice.

"Well?"

'Ah'

Owen realized he had taken too long and quickly rid his mind of his thoughts.

Ahem

He chuckled awkwardly and nodded before sliding open the door and gesturing for her to go in first.

She shot him a glance that sent a glance before sighing and walking into the class. Similar to Owen, the rest of the class was also blown away by the girl's stunning figure and the noise died down. The girl made her way towards a seat in the front that was unoccupied before sitting down.

At this point Owen walked in, no one paid attention to him as their eyes were all on the girl who entered before him. He looked around the class to see a familiar blue-haired boy waving at him from the back of the class. He smiled faintly and made his way over and sat down next to him.

When Owen sat down Hu tao who had called him over was clearly excited as he wore a grin on his face. When Owen sat down Hu tao started a conversation almost immediately.

"What did you think about that guy's speech from yesterday? Do you really think we can become five-circle mages in five years?"

Owen, a bit stunned by the random question chuckled and smirked at him.

"I dont know about the rest of the people in this class but, I will definitely become a five-circle mage!

Hu tao snorted in disbelief

"That's a lot of confidence, dont you know how hard it is to raise the number of circles we have? You'd have to be a prodigy to get to five circles in five years"

Owen folded his arms and looked out the window behind Hu tao.

"Ah cmon, dont you even want to try? Imagine we really do become five-circle mages, wed be revered all around the world as geniuses!"

"True, but I wonder how the school's gonna make us that strong so fast, do they know some secret method?"

"Probably, how else could they make us so strong in such little time. They must have a bunch of elixirs or mana pills saved up"

Hu tao wore a weird expression on his face at this moment.

"Isn't it really risky to increase the amount of mana you have through pills and elixirs? I heard you could end up with a bad foundation and it would make it really hard to get to the next rank, you could even explode if the elixirs and pills weren't digested properly!"

Owen's eyes widened slightly as Hu tao said this.

"That's… a fair point. I didn't think that far, if they really just feed us pills and elixirs won't we just be killing ourselves?"

"Right?! There's no way they'd do that, right? They must have made a new discovery" Hu tao chuckled.

"I mean, they did say that we could die during these five years, what if they really do plan on.."

Owen shook his head to get rid of any of those thoughts.

'No way, they must have made a new discovery as Hu tao said.'

SLIDE

The door to the classroom opened and the instructor of the class walked in. The class immediately quietened down and people returned to their seats.

The instructor stood behind the podium in the front of the class and looked at the students in the classroom.

"Good morning everybody, I will be your classroom teacher for the next five years, I hope that you will all do your best in the future to raise your strength."

"Now, before we begin today's lessons. I want you all to look at your watches."

'That useless thing?'

The teacher pulled out a switch from her bag and pressed the red button at its tip. Loud "ding" noises shot out from all over the classroom.

Owen looked down at his wrist to see that his watch which was previously just a black screen, now had a bright blue background and was showcasing a number in the center.

'What the hell?'

One of the students on the other side of the class spoke up and asked the teacher.

"Excuse me, miss, what does the number on my watch mean?"

The teacher looked at him with a gentle smile.

"That number is the amount of 'points' you currently have."

"Points?"

"Yes, points. The school created a point system for the students that acts as your currency. As you were told in the hall, you can gain points through various means that I'll talk about later. For now, if you would tap on the top button on the side of your watch, you should see a button that reads 'tutorial'. I want you to have all the information in the tutorial learned by tomorrow."

'Tutorial? Tutorial for what?' Owen thought to himself as he stared at his watch.

"Now moving on, You can use the points to purchase whatever you want as long as you have enough, all you have to do is tap your screen against the one you'll see in the shops, and the pints taken directly from you."

"Students can trade points with one another as well but, keep in mind, if someone forces another student to give them their points, they will immediately be fined for double that amount and if it is a recurring action, they will be expelled."

"Alright, with that covered we can begin today's lesson. Every day you will have three lessons, one will be on theory, one on mana beasts, and one on strategy and tactics."

"Once you finish those three lessons, you will be taken to the training field where you will undergo another three lessons with another teacher, you will be told when you meet them. After that, you will have a small break and then your last lesson of the day will be training. All of this will be further explained by their corresponding teachers."

"Now, let's begin our first lesson!"
