Chapter 1 - Prologue

"KENANGA, you are the eldest in this family. You have to be willing to marry the Gunawans so that our company will survive bankruptcy, dear," said Mawar, her mother, in a compassionate voice.

The woman with a body like a Spanish guitar shook her head firmly. "No, I won't marry that Perverted Old Man from the Gunawan family. Never!"

"Dear, please understand, our company is on the verge of bankruptcy, if you refuse to marry him, how can we live tomorrow? Think carefully, my daughter. It's for your future too."

"What future are you talking about, Mom? If you want to sacrifice me, just say so! You want me to marry that old man who is the same age as Dad?" Kenanga spat. "Bah, just dream 'bout it! I'd rather be poor than have to marry him!" shouted Kenanga who then walked away from there.

Lilya had been listening ever since. She was the only adopted child in the family, but she was still counted as a member of their family, even though she was the one who did all the household chores every day.

"What's wrong, Mother?" she asked Mawar who immediately grabbed Lilya's shoulder and gripped her tightly.

"Lilya, you are my only hope."

Lilya looked at Mawar not understanding, but as soon as she received the lengthy explanation, Lilya could only nod in resignation and accept.

"I'm willing to marry that person, if that person can help you. I will, mother."
