Our story begins with the sun rising, signaling the start of a new day upon a small sleepy island. The calming sounds of the soft ocean waves can be heard on the beach. A gentle breeze can be felt sweeping across the tranquil village, sailing through windows and shutters breathing life into the environment. This tiny but majestic island is named, "Kiah" which shares its name with the first family to settle here. The village is considered to be very minuscule, hosting a combined population of nearly seventy.
The inhabitants of the island are very kind and supportive, all life is considered precious to its people and everyone is valued for what they bring to the proverbial table. All except for one individual, one too far outside of the norm to be considered by these standards. An orphaned boy, who's treated as an outcast by his peers and ignored by his elders. This individual's name is "Genryu Fukuda", generally in regard to the villagers, he is neglected, mistreated, and often disregarded for one simple reason: "Magick". Something that makes him quite unique in comparison to the other villages, a special blessing or curse depending on how you look at it. Magick is considered to be a lost power of a bygone age, the old world was scarred by Magick and devastated by creatures of otherworldly strength. It's understandable that people would be apprehensive, but these villages are ruled by their fear and ignorance which doesn't make the life of this young man any easier.
His days all begin in a similar fashion, awakening early in the morning in his room, tidying his bed, and some light cleaning in an effort to make sure nothing is out of place. He then proceeds to the restroom, preparing himself for the day, washing any evidence of drool from the crest of his lips. Gazing at himself in the mirror, checking his almond brown skin for blemishes or other imperfections as many his age do, before brushing his teeth. He then quickly flattens out his sandy brown hair which was razed and messy from bed, before donning his slightly worn brown tunic and trousers. He goes through this daily ritually very quietly with great efficiency in the mornings, to try to avoid rousing his Guardian. However, to no surprise, he is already awake before him as he walks into the living quarters, seeing his elderly guardian Basmet.
Basmet is considered to be the wisest elder of Kiah Village, he's highly respected and knowledgeable of the world. He is the only person who doesn't treat Genryu as a "cursed child", he doesn't consider the magick to be something worthy of fear. He was the only one to offer care for the young ward when he was a baby. The elderly man can usually be seen wearing simple tannish or faded deep green robes he claims "they're easier to get into in the morning" and he doesn't like to waste time. He possesses a long white beard, which he strokes from time to time when he's contemplating his day. His facial features are sharper and defined, which compliments his mahogany complexion; one might suspect that he was quite handsome when he was younger. Now, his face is a little worn and even though his hair is so white it could be comparable to snow, he still claims to be "sharp as a whip" whatever that means.
It's always so mysterious that Basmet gets up before Genryu and manages to prepare a full meal and tidy up the entire home before he even gets up, the old man claims "he's just skilled." The morning continues, as usual, the pair finish their meals consisting of fried potatoes and various assortments of garden greens tidying up the area, and making sure to stow their freshly cleaned dishes. Genryu moves to finish his daily chores and steps outside and, even though he's seen the same scenery every day for the last fifteen years, he never feels more at home than when he's in nature.
Basmet's home is located at the very edge of the village territory, the benefit of this is that most of the land is untouched; the trees are so tall, that they feel as if they're stretching into the heavens. The flora & fauna of the island is quite unique mostly consisting of small and medium animals such as crabs down by the sea, deer, and a unique rabbit-like creature called "Zerī. These creatures get their name for their near gelatinous forms while still appearing somewhat similar to rabbits on the mainland. These creatures all run free around the island and remain very docile, showcasing no fear of the humans who call this island home.
The flora is uniquely beautiful on the island, there are large fields of cerulean blue stalks of edible vegetables that only seem to grow in this region. When the wind picks up and blows through the field turns into a swaying sea upon the land, the plants are named "Sapphire Anoma" for the similarity to the anoma from the mainland. The various plants on Kiah seem to bloom in unique colors, this variation led to many tourists visiting during yearly harvest points just to see what colorful surprise awaits them.
A sense of belonging and enrichment seems to wash over Genryu every time he's out in the forests or working within the garden, nature seems to bring peace to his heart and even the animals flock to him when he's out roaming around. He always appreciates the company and since he doesn't have very many human friends, he tended to spend a majority of his time growing up with the animals of the forest. He would never say it aloud but his favorite animal companions are the zeri, due to their squishy bodies their great cuddlers and he's taken many woodland naps surrounded by them.
The chores around the home usually take him about two to three hours to complete in the morning, due to his strength and virility moving heavy crates of supplies from their small storehouse into the home to restock their supplies before sorting through the remainder is quite easy. He's capable of lifting multiple crates at once, Basmet theorized that it's due to his gifts which only serve to make him feel like more of an outcast compared to his peers. After working around the home for hours, he hadn't noticed it was already midday and the sun was high in the sky; one can easily lose track of time taking part in activities that one finds joyous, and tending to the garden with the company of woodland creatures has that very effect on the young man.
As the golden rays of light beat down upon Genryu's face, a sudden scuffling could be heard in the background within mere moments of the noise, a hard object strikes him in the back of the head. The blow is paired with an instantaneous sense of sharp pain as another warm sensation can be felt streaming down the back of his neck. He takes a moment to collect himself, he notices a jagged rock in the dirt nearby as he turns to see several young men, jeering and pointing at him. He can feel the stinging sensation growing in the back of his head, the pain pulsating behind his eyes and building, causing his vision to become a bit blurred. The sensation spreads throughout his body and on instinct, he reacts to the threat, his eyes igniting with bursts of bright light which shine fiercely, his appearance akin to a primal beast.
The group immediately froze, stunned by the display, realizing the depth of their situation. Most quickly absconded from the garden, except for one, whose stare matches Genryu's. Their matched gaze expresses an intense sense of mutual disdain as he sneered "freak", as he sauntered in the direction of his cohorts. The buzzing sensation began to slowly fade, as Basmet emerged from his hovel rushing to his ward's side. He had just witnessed the entire altercation from the window. The old man attempted to assist his wounded ward before leading him inside away from his delinquent attackers.
