The entire island appears to be experiencing an earthquake, the tremors are so powerful that homes are being torn asunder. Screams of panic can be heard in the distance, but Genryu can't seem to balance himself long enough to walk anywhere, the landscape begins to shift and several loud crashes can be heard from right outside of his window. While on the floor, he notices large cracks forming and traveling up the walls of his room, suddenly the windows shatter sending glass everywhere. He reacts by rolling under his bed to avoid the shrapnel, he curls his body into the fetal position and waits for the quake to subside from under his bed.
After what feels like hours, the quake begins to fade, and Genryu crawls out from under his bed. He notices the numerous cracks spreading throughout the walls of his room, but luckily the building held out. Before he can breathe a sigh of relief, however, he has a frightening thought that Basmet could be injured, rushing out to frantically search for his adoptive father. He begins his search by heading toward Basmet's room and freezes as he sees the door has fallen from its hinges, he quickly scrambles into the room to see a gaping hole in the ceiling and a pile of debris laying on the bed. He stands in the doorway stunned for just a moment before diving toward the pile and feverishly tossing aside the rubbish from the bed, eyes darting back and forth searching for Basmet. Once the bed was cleared, a slight feeling of relief washed over him, until he remembered he still hadn't located Basmet, he left the room and quickly scanned the remainder of the house. Basmet was nowhere to be found, the thought then occurred to him that he could have been outside working in the garden.
Genryu navigates through felled furniture and exits the home. Once outside, he is immediately assaulted by the same sensation from his dream, ominous energy that feels stagnant and unyielding. He stumbles a bit, but recovers by catching himself on the nearby wall, he looks around a bit dazed as he surveys the area. He notices that many trees have fallen and a stack of storage crates has collapsed over by the shed. He makes his way over to the crates and begins to lift the crates to clear the pathway, he notices a piece of tattered cloth attached to one of the crates. He slowly repositions the remaining crates before noticing a chilling sight and dropping to his knees. Basmet is unconscious and his breath is faint, Genryu assumes the crates must have fallen during the quake, he begins to panic and calls out his father's name. His eyes flick back and forth as he scans the body for any noticeable injuries, there doesn't seem to be any blood but that doesn't mean he's not still gravely hurt. He tries to remain calm but is failing, he can feel the tears begin to condense in his eyes.
He grasps Basmet and closes his eyes softly weeping, he pleads to anything that will listen while holding the old man. "Please, help me!... what good is this gift if I can't save the people that I love!" he cries, as if his prayers had been heard by the divine themselves, his energy ignites around his body. The light shined brighter than it has ever before, the light engulfs the both of them and illuminates the entire area around them. The light could be seen from the village down below drawing attention to Basmet's home, as the light begins to fade Genryu opens his eyes witnessing something miraculous, the ground around him had grown new fresh grass and blossoming flowers now surrounded them. "My boy…" Basmet mutters groggily as he reaches his hand out to caress his son's face, Genryu tightens his grip and continues to sob.
Shimmering light particles can still be seen around the two as Basmet slowly begins to sit up, noticing the now blooming floral circle that has been crafted around the pair. "It would seem that you called upon the powers of nature" Basmet utters as he gestures to their surroundings. Genryu looks around him taking stock of the current environment, he hadn't noticed before but it was his power that healed Basmet's wounds which very well could have saved his life. He looks down at his hands, still astounded by what he had just done, he then looks to Basmet and smiles "I healed you... These powers really are gifts aren't they?" Basmet simply gives a nod of acknowledgment to Genryu before attempting to stand up. Genryu notices and scrambles to assist, as he does an intense feeling of lightheadedness accompanies him and he almost collapses back to the floor but Basmet catches him.
"You appear to have overexerted yourself, my boy," Basmet says with a hearty laugh, Genryu's vision blurs just a bit before coming back into focus "I... think you're right..." he replies exasperatedly. As the pair begin to head back inside, they are suddenly stopped by a familiar hoity voice "It was you!? Wasn't it!?!" the voice screeches, sounding similar to the cries of the zeri. The pair turns to face the source of the voice, as an overweight bulbous man stomps forth dressed in a fancy petticoat and exquisite boots. His face is flushed from running up the hill to their home and his mustache seems to have lost its bounce due to the sudden increase in activity. "What in the world could you be referring to, Sylvester?" Basmet snaps back in response.
"That is Mayor Kiah to you! You know what I am addressing! Your ward is using dangerous magick to attack the village!!" He furiously barks back at the old man, his face growing increasingly more rosy as each moment passes. "You hold your tongue! I will not tolerate this slander against my son, you gaseous hog-monkey," Basmet retaliates as he helps Genryu into the porch chair before turning to face the mayor. "You have no proof to make any such claims against him, you storm up here with your confusion and ignorance to fuel this sense of misguided rage, and you should be ashamed of yourself!". The mayor looks flabbergasted by everything he just heard and before he can udder his next statement Basmet interrupts "As you can see our home was damaged just as the others in town have been and both of us suffered injuries as well, so answer me this" He hobbles over to the mayor to meet him face to face "If he was going to attack the village why hurt himself and our home to do so? Why would he risk his well-being to protect me from injury? If his heart is as black and malicious as you believe then answer me!".
The mayor, whose face is now redder than the tomatoes grown in the garden, stood speechless glaring at the barely conscious boy and enraged elder. He turns to see that a crowd has begun to form, and the villagers whisper amongst themselves about the previous statements that Basmet has made. He has always been considered to be a wise elder and highly respected in the village so many feel as though they can trust his dictations. The mayor simply releases a large huff before storming away back down the path through the villagers. Basmet announces "If anyone needs medical attention, I would be happy to treat you!"A couple of wounded individuals step forward and Basmet addresses some able-bodied village men to set up makeshift booths for treatment while he goes to get his supplies.
