Chapter 13 - Chapter-13 Pain of Love

The doctor removed my two sons from their mother, hoping Sophia would wake up. It has been three weeks since the pups were born and Sophia is still in a coma. She doesn't even know our sons were born. I have refused to name them, hoping she will wake up and help me name them. I know she wanted to name one Raphael and the other after Maximus.

I wanted her to decide which name went to which pup. Maximus and one nurse have brought both pups into the room hoping that their crying will wake Sophia up from her coma. I walked over to one of my pups and saw that one of them looked like Sophia, with black hair and blue eyes. I pick him up only to have him whimper. He sniffs the air and I already know he is going to be strong. I am unsure if he can realize it is me. He stops squirming after he sniffs the air.

I headed back to my chair next to Sophia. As I look down at my son, I have memories of Sophia when she and Ashleigh first became friends. It was about three years after the rogues attacked Lindsey. Sophia walked into the pack house with Jimmi, who was coming home from the local playground. She was a little thing. She had a tattered floral dress on that had rips and holes everywhere.

Ashleigh came bouncing up to the new little girl and started trying to talk to her. Sophia was clearly shy. "Alpha, I found her wandering around the playground. I asked her where her parents were. Her father is at home and her mother is dead. That is what she said." Jack said as he stood there.

"Yes, I know who she is. Lindsey was her mother. I will speak with Joseph about letting his daughter wander around alone." Dad said as he looked at the little girl. I couldn't take my eyes off of her, as she was the cutest thing I have ever seen.

As I sat in my chair with one of my pups in my hand, I remembered when I first turned eighteen and how it felt when I found out the Moon Goddess gave me Sophia as a mate.

I was walking to school like I always did. I was excited because a werewolf finds his mate when he turns eighteen, and today was my eighteenth birthday. There were a lot of pretty girls in school. I knew there was one girl I would be happy to have as a mate, but she is six months younger than I am and I am not sure if the Moon Goddess would pair us together. I know, however, there is one girl I never want as a mate, and that is the slut, Rosa.

She has been hanging all over me for months now. It kind of has me worried as she started after her own eighteenth birthday. I do know I will reject her if she ends up being my mate. As we approached my sister's best friend, Sophia's house, I was hit with the most luxurious smell. Cherry blossoms and roses. It is intoxicating.

"What are you doing, big brother?" Ashleigh said, and I realized I was looking everywhere.

"I can smell her. She is near, and the scent is getting stronger." I said as Sophia came out of her house and her eyes landed on me. "Mate," I said loud enough for only my sister to hear. "Do you think you two girls could get to school fine on your own? I forgot something at home." I said, not taking my eyes off of my mate. I didn't know if I should tell her or if I should wait six months for her to find out on her own.

"We will be fine, Alpha," Sophia said as she dipped her head.

"Sophia, please don't call me Alpha. That is still my dad, and I also forbid you to call me Alpha," I said. Hearing that word coming from my mate pissed my wolf Lance off.

I mind-linked my sister telling her not to tell Sophia that we were mates. I wanted to speak with my dad first. I didn't know if it was against the rules of the wolf counsel for me to claim her when she wasn't eighteen yet. All Ashleigh said was she would never forgive me if I broke her best friend's heart. I had no intention of doing so. I have been in love with Sophia for years now. I wanted to accept her as my mate on the spot, but I was nervous.

I made it home quickly. "Jonathan, why are you not at school?" Dad said as he poked his head out of his office.

"I found her dad," I said. I hoped he would know what I meant.

"Who?" Dad said, sounding happy.

"Sophia Greggor. I don't know what to do. She won't be eighteen for at least six more months, and I don't know if I can wait that long to claim her as mine." I said as I looked down at my feet.

"You are going to speak with her father. If he agrees, you can claim her, then we can move her into the spare apartment with you. But know she may not believe you since she is not eighteen yet." Dad said as he hugged me. "Now go to school, but speak to her father after school. I will get Ashleigh to invite Sophia over for dinner. I will meet you at Joseph Greggor's office after school. I need to make sure he cares for her properly, especially if he refuses to allow her to move in here."

I did as my dad said and once the school day was over, I headed toward the Delta office. Sophia's father was Delta's assistant. He was to keep the files for the pack's warriors files in their proper places. I was nervous about talking to her dad. In our pack, if a she-wolf is under the age of eighteen, their families can refuse their mate. If he refuses, I could lose my chances with her. At least my dad is going to be there. I watch him walk up as I am not allowed in the training offices until I am Alpha, but since I am going with my dad, no one can say anything.

"Dad, what if he refuses?" I said as I felt my heart pounding, knowing if he does and Sophia listens to her father she could reject me when she turns eighteen. Dad didn't say anything, he just simply started smiling and walked into Delta Jay's office.

"Alpha, I wasn't expecting an inspection today. Come in. Sorry for everything being in disarray. Joseph hasn't been doing his job well lately," Delta Jay said. A Delta is the one in charge of training the young wolves and keeping the warriors in top condition. We stood and talked to Joseph Greggor about Sophia being my mate. He had only one condition. I was not to tell her until she was eighteen and I agreed. Dad informed him he was to make sure Sophia was well cared for.

My son's cry brought me back to reality. I sat there rocking my son, trying to get him to calm down as Sophia's mother and father came into the room. "Earlier, the doctor suggested I take her off of life support," I said as I looked up from my mate's face and looked at her parents. I felt a tear fall down my face.
