Chapter 18 - Two-edged Blade

Everything seemed normal, except there was now a third trait. The trait had one of the weirdest names that Seth had ever seen, but he looked past it and analyzed its content.

Trait: Negative Soul

➔ The child of darkness, spawned from the negative plane. One without a fate or mission. Surrounded by vestiges of the umbra and tortured by the Hands of Tenebro.

➔ The holder of this soul is without light. His soul has been plunged into the Abyss and there is no coming back.

Qualities:

➨ Incomplete Amortality: "You cannot kill what is already dead". Conditions apply.

Host cannot experience eternal death. After each death, Host will be summoned to the Negative Plane.

Host cannot interact with the physical plane without a vampiric body that has achieved awakening.

➨ Negative Element Affinity

"Wow… talk about a dark covenant."

Seth was not joyous about this trait. What reaction should he make towards a trait that appeared as a two-edged blade? Of course, he couldn't exactly smile at it.

Just like the description said, he couldn't escape this trait. The pros and cons of it would chase him for the rest of his life.

Seth combed through his imaginary beards, "Let's focus on the advantages."

Maybe his mood would lighten if he convinced himself the pros were better than the con.

"Incomplete Amortality… basically, it amplifies my undying qualities as a vampire, but this time, I can never die. I will always return to the negative plane. F*ck!"

Seth knew little of the negative plane. It was stated in the Book of Eli that this plane was a ravenous evil that devoured all souls. Even the death plane was a meek lamb compared to it. Being one of the oldest vampires, Eli's words were as credible as the voice of god.

There was no record of anyone escaping this plane.

"Death is not really an option, huh?" Seth smirked, but he was sad on the inside.

He opened his mouth, spewing many profanities. "Even if I leave the plane, I would need a vampire body that had gone through the awakening. This is some bullsh*t! F*cking trait!"

After glancing at the other quality of the trait, Seth felt like he had had enough. The second quality was sh*t… respectfully.

Mana was the only force the beings of the world could access. Any other force would have to be transformed into a variant of Mana, like Fire Mana, Ice Mana, Death Mana… and so on.

As for Negative Mana, it was foolish for Seth to dream of it. After all, the eternal curse placed on his race prevented him from wielding magic via mana.

"Ah, I can't lose my temper. Let's move. Hey, at least, the increase in STs and attributes are looking good."

Forcing a smile on his face, Seth quickly glanced through his attribute panel. It was delightful to spot the changes. He hoped he would have time to test out his new strength.

His eye found its way to the [Skill] panel. To this day, his passive skills section remained blank. However, he had gained two more active skills. The first of which was titled [Prism Negativa].

Immediately he saw the title, his heart palpitated. "Is this what I think it is…?"

Skill: Prism Negativa

Skill Rank: S

Skill Type: Racial Skill

➔ The child of Az Morgen hoards all crystals. He steals their light and leaves only a husk.

Qualities:

➨ Ability to absorb the powers of special crystals. Conditions apply.

Limited Slots. Slots available: 3.

Possible ability rejection.

➨ Crystal Affinity

"Oh yeah, now we are talking!" Seth beamed in delight.

This skill was a big deal for his other half. Rhazien's parents' union resulted in a mutation of their bloodline. Most of their children generated a strange affinity for dark crystals. His sister could see the future through crystals. His brother could trap souls in crystals and enhance the entrapment. Only Rhazien had no affinity with crystals… until now!

One could only imagine how happy he was to discover that he was no longer the strange one in his family.

"I wonder how they are doing now. Hope everyone is well." Seth became distracted as he thought about his vampiric family.

The only thing he could do now was to grow stronger and attain the means to cross realms. He knew there had to be a way, but he didn't know how to find it. It wasn't the top priority right now, so he could be slow with his search.

As for the quality of the skill, it was safe to say that he needed to be careful with the crystal he picked for absorption.

"Three slots is too little, but I can work with it. Hmmm… about the skill rank, I know little about other skills, so I can't determine if it's priceless or not."

Seth quickly went on to the next skill. He was in a good mood and he hoped the next skill would hype him. From the first look, he knew it was something related to his clan.

Skill: Night Stalker

Skill Rank: B

Skill Type: Racial Skill

➔ The House of the Night are agents of darkness. With one body in between the planes, they observe life, existing everywhere and nowhere as an eternal shadow.

Qualities:

➨ Ability to transform into any night-themed creature. Conditions apply.

100% Synchronisation with the creature chosen.

Time limit of 20 minutes.

Reduced Intelligence.

Disintegration in illuminated spots.

Enhanced functionality at nights

"Well, this is something."

The Morgen Clan held the best shape-shifting abilities in the vampire community. Only the purebloods and noblebloods could shapeshift. As a half-nobleblood, Rhazien never deluded himself into thinking he would one day be able to shape-shift, but here he was now!

[Night Stalker] was the perfect ability for him. Even though the conditions were drastic, he could make do with them. All he needed was a long period of training.

"I need to gain experience with my skills."

That was all. He was done with his revision. With his newly gained abilities, he reckoned he could confidently face off a forsaken howler.

"The awakening might not have been the best choice, but it was all I had. There's no need to regret it. Right now, I only have one more thing to do before heading out." Seth spoke to himself.

He focused on his attribute panel. His eyes stared at the stats potions.

"Three stat potions. I need to use them before I forget."

The key question was which attribute to use them on. [Constitution] was easily eliminated because of obvious reasons. The rest of his attributes came in no order of importance, but it had to be noted that it was his innate speed that saved him when he was in danger.

"I guess I should spread it out. One point to [Agility]. One point to [Wisdom]. One point to [Strength]."

Immediately he had that thought, a cerulean flask appeared in his hands through mystical means he could not explain. He did not see a spatial portal, nor did he discover a summoning circle, so how was it possible?

"No point in thinking too much, huh?" Seth sighed as he caressed the flask.

It felt cold, as if the liquid inside was from the most frigid river in existence. The carvings of its surface could only be considered perfect and nothing less. Each slope wasn't too steep, as it contributed to the flask's hourglass shape.

Seth opened the flask and drank the content. It burned his mouth like harsh wine, but he forced himself to continue drinking. It was a sort of guilty pleasure to him.

After a while, he finished drinking the liquid. He looked at his attribute panel and discovered it had truly changed according to his thoughts.

Attributes:

Strength: 11

Agility: 16

Constitution: 9

Wisdom: 6

Stat Potions Available ➨ 0

"Now, I'm ready. First, I need to sleep. My body is drained. I also need to feed, but sleeping comes first."

A vampire that hasn't drunk blood for a day would become desiccated. Rhazien could last days without blood only through vigorous training.

Seth crawled into bed, ignoring the deep cravings he had. It was a tough day and he would like sound sleep.
