Chereads / The Legendary Chronomancer / Chapter 2 - A zone boss

Chapter 2 - A zone boss

The world was created in time. Space was the canvas where reality played out. But time is the dimension we can't manipulate, the dimension we can't cheat. It's the only thing in life that cannot be turned back.

***

Heroical figures, legendary figures, or even god figures. They were those who blessed people from the beginning.

Through the years, more and more people wrote their own myths, blessing people too.

And it had been like this for as long as this Earth existed.

Those myths slowly began to spread, making people know about those who blessed them.

King Arthur for example.

The one who was blessed by him could know about his story because it has spread to the world over the years.

However, there was one thing that Haste didn't understand.

No, there were numerous things he didn't understand actually.

He had searched a lot about blessings, the stories behind those figures, and their powers. But he had never heard about anything related to time.

There were records about beings controlling space, or even reality, who blessed those who had those attributes.

But time wasn't mentioned. He never heard of time being an attribute.

And it was the second thing he didn't understand.

No one had ever had the Time attribute, so it was strange that a being could be called the God of Time because there would surely be a record about this person.

And last but not least, he didn't understand how someone like him could get a blessing. A god-rank blessing at that.

He didn't have any potential, or power. So what was the reason for this being to choose someone like him?

Though, something pulled him out of his thought.

[The God of Time had granted you a skill]

[Time manipulation: The user can control the time at his will. However, due to the current level of the user, the time that can be controlled is limited to the user himself.]

"What?" Haste shouted in shock, drawing people's attention. Though, he was too surprised to even pay attention to them. 'How can such a spell exist? Is it even possible?' He thought as he began to head back from where he came.

He completely forgot why he had come here in the first place. His previous state was changed by excitement.

'I'm sure that with a skill like this, I would be able to kill the dog from earlier,' He thought as he ran.

And that was right, instead of returning to the mansion, he ran toward where the teleportation gate was.

On the way there, he also saw Jil, his big brother. However, he didn't even greet him nor bat an eye for him as he just continued running.

And Jil was surprised seeing that because it was the first time that Haste did that. Usually, he was always waiting for him to go far from him before moving again, whereas this time, he didn't even glance at him.

But in the end, he just shrugged off the matter. It wasn't as if Haste interested him. So he just continued walking toward the mansion before he got an idea.

As for Haste, he saw his brother, but he didn't care about him right now. He wanted to test his new power as fast as he could.

So he came to the teleportation gate and crossed it immediately.

There, he ran once more to the area he was in earlier, and without much need to search for monsters, he saw one of the dogs in this area.

He prepared himself and went into stance. He then waited for the dog to ran before running too.

Unlike earlier, he decided to try something else. There wasn't any point in waiting for the dog since it failed him earlier.

So instead, he decided to try to take a little bit of momentum.

He activated his Time manipulation and increased his speed by just a little. He already knew how to use it since the spell was now engraved in his brain.

However, even this little increase in speed was enough to accelerate him a lot. He got so fast that instead of heading for the dog, he headed to the tree behind it.

"No no no wai-... *Bam*" He rushed to the tree and hugged it for a moment. "*Argh* it hurts," Haste lamented before hearing the dog slowly running toward him.

"Thank god the dog is slow," Haste murmured to himself before distancing himself from the dog.

Since it was slow, Haste didn't have any difficulties doing that.

So once he was at a good distance, he decided to face the dog once again.

He could approximatively measure the distance between him and the dog. And there were more or less 10 meters.

And since he didn't want to miss his target this time, he put his sword in front of him and activated his Time manipulation to be faster.

He was heading right to the dog.

The speed was once again too much for him. But since he already experienced a failure once, he managed to correct his error a little.

And this correction made him happy because he managed to head right to the dog instead of its side.

Thanks to the momentum the sword pierced the dog's head, killing it immediately.

Blood splashed everywhere, including Haste's white clothes.

However, he couldn't care less because he received something that couldn't make him happier.

[You killed a black dog]

[+9 EXP]

He was so happy to see this, that he completely forgot about his earlier problems. It was as if time turned back for real.

But since he was in the forest, he couldn't stay idle like this for too long.

Who knows, maybe other monsters would be attracted to the blood smell and come to him as a result.

So he touched the dog, and the latter began to disappear.

However, before disappearing, it left behind some loots.

In this world, those who killed monsters could harvest them, thus obtaining either loot or with a lot of luck, skills that could be either learned or sold. Moreover, only the one who had killed the monster could harvest this very monster.

So after touching the dog, something that looks like an orb appeared.

He then took it between his hands, and unfortunately, it wasn't a skill orb.

'I guess I can't be that lucky,' He made a wry smile before putting the orb inside his pocket. 'But at least I managed to kill a monster on my own. And I just need one more EXP before leveling up. So I should kill another monster before going back to the mansion,' He thought before suddenly hearing a loud step.

It was so loud that even the birds in the trees flew away.

'What was that?' Haste got scared. He never heard such a loud step before in this forest. And it couldn't come from a human either since it was too loud.

So he slowly get up and went toward where he heard the noise.

He hid behind one of the giant trees and peeked at it. Only to see something horrifying.

He saw a giant black dog. Even bigger than the one he just fought.

This dog was a zone boss. And it was eating a human before he heard a noise coming from behind a tree.
