When Kroft awoke to the second day in this new world he immediately wanted a shower. He was now starting to show signs of his past life leaking into this new one as the craving for a shower increased in the morning. He searched through the memories of the original Kroft and discovered that automated showers are not a luxury that a man of his class could not afford. He went downstairs after getting dressed and ate breakfast. It was a wheat filled meal with not much of a taste to his liking. He never liked oatmeal but he seemed to dislike it even more today.
Well the taste of food isn't really my most major concern as of right now. He thought to himself. I better figure out the workings of this world. After finishing his meal he thanked Griselda and walked outside into the street. To his knowledge this village won't be able to hold much of a candle to the surrounding civilizations knowledge. I must travel to a larger city and absorb all the information that I can. Kroft said to himself after waving off the guard at the entrance and heading in the opposite direction from where he came in from the day before. Kroft wasn't an idiot though and understood that he needed to plan out what he would be doing in his future. That's why in the middle of the night while the inn was silent enough to hear a mouse's footsteps he snuck into the downstairs of the building and decided to make a donation from Griselda's savings to himself. Now he isn't a thief, all he saw was that a polite young lady was unconsciously deciding to allow a man who was down on his luck to pick me up. Kroft made sure not to take all of the savings that she had though, it's not like insurance was a thing in this world so she needed a little bit to stay afloat and he wasn't evil enough to crush the business of a young up and coming entrepreneur.
I should be able to make it to the city of Prawn in a few days on foot. Kroft said to himself as he looked over a map that he got from the town guard before he left the town.
(A few days later)
Kroft arrived in front of the tall city wall that stretched into the distance.
"Quite a large city eh?" a man standing next to Kroft said to him. As of right now Kroft was standing in a long line waiting for admittance into the city and a balding man with a short stature started speaking to him.
"Yeah I've never seen a wall so big!" Kroft said with a sense of excitement in his voice. He was obviously lying as the walls in his old world were ten times as big as this stone monument in front of him.
"Is this your first time coming to Praven?" the man asked with a voice of curiosity penetrating into his tone.
"Yes it is, I come from a middle class family back in Mao and my folks sent me out here to hopefully study at a merchant school in order to become a peddler." This was the backstory which Kroft had decided on, the only true part being that he was from Mao, but going under the guise that he was a to be merchant and came for school for the first time would allow for him to gain information without arising any suspicions.
"Well you definitely came to the right city my boy, Praven is known as the capital of trade, built upon hundreds of years of merchants gathering and bringing goods from all over the continent together!"
The short man then went on to speak about why he was arriving in Praven, going over how he was a traveling merchant who wished to sell the goods which he had gathered throughout the other parts of the continent. Kroft wasn't very much interested but still gave off an air of politeness in order to pave a path of acquaintanceship with this random merchant as he could come in handy if more information about the city might be needed in the future.
So Praven is the trade capital of the Eastern Continent which should mean that this will be the best place that I can gather information on the civilizations in this world. Kroft planned silently to himself.
Kroft entered the city and parted ways with the short merchantman, he headed towards the center of the capital slowly scanning the stalls of the people around him as he traversed throughout the city.
This is a very different kind of world, people walk around with weapons in the open and yet I haven't seen any of the magic that is said to exist Kroft observed.
Magic was the one thing that Kroft really wanted to study, out of everything else that there was to explore in this new place. Why wouldn't he want to try to comprehend the most complex existence he had heard of so far. As far as he knew magic wasn't even real, but seeing the strength of the bandit Benny and the ferocity of the wolves lead Kroft to being open to the possibility of its existence.
This place is obviously very different from my previous world, who is to say that the laws of existence in this world aren't different either. I need to wade through archives of the world in order to figure out if magic really does exist. I wonder if they have a library in this city.
Kroft wandered the city streets and then arrived before a clothing store, he picked out a warm black fur coat and some leather pants, spending a portion of the charitable donation which Griselda had given him. He walked out of the store reinvigorated from his fresh clothes and wandered up to a food stand buying a kabob. A meat similar to chicken was on the stick and it tasted very similar yet he doubted that's what it was.
"Excuse me, by any chance is there a library within the city?" Kroft asked the stallowner which he bought the kabob from.
"Hmm, there isn't any public library, but the Fighters Guild has the Presenct which holds archives from all over the continent open to its members. The Presenct is a ginormous building in the western side of the city, you can't miss it, but you have to have a rank within the Fighters Guild in order to access it."
"Alrighty thanks man." Kroft said back. Walking away from the stall towards the Western side of the city Kroft laughed to himself, guess I'm finally going to have to do some fighting.
(15 minutes later)
Kroft arrived at the Fighters guild entrance, he didn't even try to go to the Presenct first already knowing that they'd tell him he needed a rank in the Fighters Guild to enter. He entered the fighters guild and was surprised that it was drastically different then what he was expecting, honestly he was expecting that it would be a nice blonde older lady behind a long wooden desk asking if I wanted to register, instead it was some old man standing behind a metal desk writing down records onto a paper. Others were around with men and women of varying differences congregating together. Kroft walked in front of the old man but before he could ask anything the old man said,"5 silvers to join or 5 copper to post a minor job."
Kroft accepted it not needing to ask pointless questions and handed over the rest of his money in order to join. The old man without another word handed over a tag with a brown color on it.
"Your bronze, complete jobs to rank up, you die then you die, don't lose your tag or you have to pay 2 silvers to replace it."
"Ok, thank you" Kroft responded, "May I ask one question?"
"Go ahead." The old man responded, his tone as monotone as before.
"What rank do I need in order to access the Presenct?"
"You must be rank Gold or above in order to access the archived stored within the Presenct."
"Alright have a good day." Kroft ended the conversation with that short goodbye.
Kroft wandered over to the wide wooden board with multiple sheets of paper hanging upon it.
"Time for me to finally kill some shit." he muttered to himself. "Hopefully I will be able to have a dissection and find out if there might be any biological abnormalities while comparing them to the creatures of my previous world."
He ripped off a sheet of paper from the sea of others.
"Rats huh? I can exterminate some rats." he said as he reread the request.
REQUEST: Extermination- Rats
LOCATION: South Side of Praven, basement of butchers house.
REWARD: 1 Copper per 1 rat head.
RANK: Bronze
Confirming that he would complete this request Kroft left the Fighter Guild ready to undertake his first assignment in this new world
