"Well, what does it say?"
Jamir and Irvin were practically bouncing. Blair and Hershey silently looked on.
"Oh." Cadmus skimmed the letter that read, 'Congratulations,' before gently setting it down and saying, "I did it. I'm Valedictorian."
Six years of sleepless nights for perfect exam scores, six years of tedious extracurricular skills, six years of random volunteer activities – six years of his life were dedicated to this moment, for this piece of paper, and yet, here he was, expecting he would feel more.
"Way to go, Master!" Irvin wrapped an arm around his shoulder while Jamir ruffled his hair. Normally, he would be peeved, but he felt too out of it to process the situation. Hershey let out an amazed sound while Blair gave him a blinding smile. "Congratulations!"
"Thanks."
Cadmus felt ridiculous for being disappointed. Blair noticed this but chose to keep silent.
